Very nice vid showing what this classic truck kit can do as a finished product. I still have mine that I bought back in 86'. The only thing I regret is not making the shifter cutout for my Futaba 8 channel (which I still have, the Conquest model) so I ended up burning out 2nd gear. I have it manually set to 3rd gear given the lockable pinch nut on the shifter rod. Still runs and looks great !!!!!
I agree, these are real classics! This summer Tamiya will re-release the Hilux Mountaineer, same chassis as the Bruiser - different body design. tamiyablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/tamiya-84386.jpg
haven't had the RC bug for 25 years. Watched this awesome vid.....I got it again, lol. That was really neat. Older buddy of mine had one waterproofed back in the 80s, drove the darned thing through a pond! Wish I could afford one, even now.
I remember when I scored two of these chassis. One was a complete roller and the other was missing parts. Also got an SG Coyote 4wd buggy with lot all for $120
Thank you for your nice words! Your Tamiya collection must be really big! And the Bruiser is a big addition to it! For me one of the nicest RC from Tamiya. But no idea how to make the second gear 4wd...
i remember back in the day, the first release, the toyota mountaineer. wanted one so bad, could not afford one.then tamiya discontinued it. then years later changed the roll bars and released it again as the buriser. then after a while discontinued it again! they were the rc truck of trucks. man i feel old! lol! never did get one of either. all i can say is u lucky son of a gun! sweet vid bud! B>)
Ahh, the Bruiser. It's always been a great looking scale R/C truck. Of course Matteo's video makes it look even better! Almost 30 years later and I still can't afford one! Some things ever change. :-)
Wie immer sehr schönes Video! Die Kiste ich echt stimmig gemacht. Vor allem die Achsen und die Blattfedern sind sehr schön. Lässt mir jetzt fast keine Ruhe mehr ;-)
Graet video. I have always loved this car. I remember when I was in my early teens and thiscame out and I was in awe of it. I agree with some of the other guys that this truck look so good there were moments when I thought it was a real truck. Very well done.
Great. What is the top speed of these models? Looks interesting to build, but I also want to drift a little in the snow. I guess these do not have very much speed?
Thanks to the 3-speed transmission the models are pretty fast. Have you seen this: th-cam.com/video/wQbmbR6YW3o/w-d-xo.html (little drifting in snow included) 😊😊👍
I just looked online and I see that these are currently selling for ~$550. Not much more than a Traxxas TRX-4. This one seems to be more scale, but I'm curious which would you would rather have if you could only have one? Which one is more fun to drive? Both have primitive suspension, compared to a Summit, but that doesn't always equate to driving fun. ;-)
If I had to choose I would go with the Traxxas. These trucks are completely another category of RC cars, not like a summit. They are build like a real car, with the same suspension. This is why they have not the same performance as a Summit. But the target is not to bash around. It's more to drive it over obstacles on a realistic way.
Hi Matteo, I love watching your videos. I am wondering how the rc would react to a real world weight of the body. Rc body's are very light maybe weight it like a real vehicle. Sorry my english is bad. Love your music selection too and downloaded to my Spotify app. Cheers
Tamiya should call you to do there promo videos. Action, stills, camera mounted, side by side you covered them all, great work, videography must be your day job LOL
I have built the frame so far Before I start paint the body I want to ask if I have to apply primer to paint If it doesn't make big difference I would like to paint without it what do you think? Did you paint yours with primer?
Very cool video. Better than Tamiya USA's. Can't beat those Bruiser or any truck in that line up. I run my original ones all the time. Need to get a newer one now.
FANTASTICO! Absolutely great video, promo-style yes...! Very nicely done Bruiser Model as well and specially the driver is pretty much cool....! Thank your for sharing your pro' work with us :-) Cheers!
@Matteomeier Hi. Thanks! I checked some servo at Berlinksi, but there are different size servos under the category standard servos. It's a bit confusing. Which servos did you use?
Hey, U must be in Redwood Forest Driving your truck cuz the trees are so big! :) Oh wait, Its an RC. lol... That thing is awesome man, Love the suspension on it, super cool with the leaf springs and all. Very nice! :)
This is not to compare. The Bruiser is a vintage car and can not reach the performance of actual rc like SCX-10 or TRX-4

Schon wieder n richtiges Schätzchen, das Video. DANKE!
I live in Canada. That truck is $1,300 here plus TAX and shipping. And I'll need a transmitter, receiver, servos, ESC and batteries. At the end of the day...it comes out to almost $2,000 lol. But nice truck once again!
Nice, but is there a way to modify this, instead of leaf springs, put in springs instead. Its too bouncy and doesn't articulate due to leaf springs. Like a real 4x4 should articulate?
Of course there is a way to modify this, but in my opinion not the right thing. This is an iconic RC oldtimer and it should stay in original condition. It's more than 30 years old. It would be the same to modify a 1:1 oldtimer to get the performance of an actual car, no one will do this. If you like to have the performance of an actual RC, better to buy a new one.
Very nice video. Can You tell me what the biggest differences are between the Tamiya Hilux Bruiser and the Hilux High-Lift ? Is the Bruiser a better off-road car and better at crawling?
Jakob Schultz Thanks. No, not better for crawling. The off road performance is the same. (Both of them are scalers, not crawlers). The Bruiser chassis have much more scale appearance. The chassis looks like a real 4x4 car and is nearly full metal.
Jakob Schultz I would buy the Bruiser or Mountain Rider (both have the same chassis) for sure. The difficulty for assembling is the same. The Bruiser / Mountain Rider is more expensive (because of the metal parts) th-cam.com/video/Tj6eohhWuQ4/w-d-xo.html
***** So the Bruiser/Mountain Rider is maybe better quality and more like a real off-road car in the chassis? But both can be modified to be more off-road capable?
Jakob Schultz Modifications are more sensible on the high lift. The bruiser is perfect out of the box (my opinion) th-cam.com/video/wVnL74m8HrA/w-d-xo.html
Yes, the Bruiser is durable, of course not same as a actual basher RC, but the Bruiser is not made for high speed over big jumps... The durability is the same as the high lift, but the bruiser chassis is more realistic. I use a Sony HDR CX-730 and a GoPro Hero Black edition.
I heard that the transmission comes with reinforced plastic gears and those are weak. Have had any problem? Or do you know where can I get those metal tranny gears ? Thanks in advance
The minimum you need is 3 channel. The 3. channel is needed for the gear shift. I recommend a 4 channel (Futaba 4PL) to use the 4. channel for something else (lights on / off or winch…)
Added to my favorites. Fantastic shots bro. Amazing rig. It's soooooo expensive ahhhhhh. You've had enough fun with it....send it to Atlanta please. JK. =]
I used to spend hours staring at the rc cars and trucks in the magazines. I wanted one of these so bad. I am so close to buying one right now.
Great! It's a good Idea, brings back nice memories! 👍😊
@@Matteomeier - WOW you have every RC car I remember. Holy sh*t it brings back alot of memories.
@@Matteomeier - I was going to buy a 2012 re release but the shipping was 180.00. I found a vintage one on E bay used and bought it instead.
Cool video. I actually still have my original 1985 bruiser built but never been ran it's still like brand new .
I have one that I bought in the late ‘80’s. Great truck!!!
That is awesome! 👍👍😊
I still have mine bought in 1986. Awesome fun toy.
Maybe now I can get parts for it.
I had one of the originals back in 86. I just bought this updated version.
Thats cool! 👍😊

Great! Nice to have the original one! Maybe sometime you can install the gear shift...
Just found one of these new in the box from the 80s!
Really cool video! I liked watching that authentic suspension working as the truck traversed the terrain!
Thanks for your nice feedback!
I would love to see a bruiser build video. Some day I will have one. Every Tamiya collector should have one of these awesome and iconic vehicles!
I agree, these are real classics! This summer Tamiya will re-release the Hilux Mountaineer, same chassis as the Bruiser - different body design.

It looked good back in the day, and still looks good :) Nice video as always, sir.
Just Me Yes, the Bruiser is one of my all time favorites too!
I remember when I scored two of these chassis. One was a complete roller and the other was missing parts. Also got an SG Coyote 4wd buggy with lot all for $120

That looks awesome Matteo. A great video and perfect location too.,👍👌

Der Bruiser ist ein Traum (den ich mir endlich auch erfüllen konnte). Tolles Video 1A ! Mehr davon.

Ah, you already seen it! Thanks 👍
Love the video and background sounds❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow, superb video. The Bruiser looks amazing.
Thank you, nice to hear this!
The master does it again! Fantasic build and video. Have to watch this again, loving it. Bet that was so much fun to build.
My brother bought one back in the 80's and he still has it! What is the awesome music track?
Nice to have an original one! The music called "Take a Break" from BMG - Refunked
Wow, how did i miss this excellent video regards Julian
Thanks Julian! 🙏😊
I ordered 2012 version today after I watched your video

Like you I was unable to get one first time around. It's on my 'RC's I want' list :-)
Your daugter has done a great job of the Dingo on her channel.
Love the way that bruiser boogies
Thanks, it's vintage style suspension!
your videos are THE BEST! thanks for putting in the effort. i have been curious how the bruiser rolls, filmed well of course.

I realize it's kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to watch new series online ?
@Nolan Brentley I use Flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
Man do like that rig! Have wanted one for a long time. Just need to break down and just order it. Nice video. :)
So lovely :) She bounces like a real Unimog on the road! Wonderful! :) A terrific film too. :)
What a great looking truck, nice filming as always!
No way! You must have a bionic arm or something - your shots are ridiculously smooth - lucky!
Hi Matteo, I love watching your videos. I am wondering how the rc would react to a real world weight of the body. Rc body's are very light maybe weight it like a real vehicle. Sorry my english is bad. Love your music selection too and downloaded to my Spotify app. Cheers
Thanks for all your good words! Of course the weight and the movement is much different than a real car. This are physic rules of mass.
i got one of the OG tamiya mountaineers, do you know if the knew thransmission/motor combo is a direct fit with the original?

What did you use for LEDs? Custom or kit? I want to do the same, that looks very sweet!!

Liked!!!!!!! Ahhh man I want one so bad. Great film Mateo!!
Hi Matteo. I hope you read my message. Which servo's should I get for the Bruiser? I mean, what size?
You can use a standard servo, nothing special needed
@Matteomeier Hi. Thanks! I checked some servo at Berlinksi, but there are different size servos under the category standard servos. It's a bit confusing. Which servos did you use?
what a nice truck!
Hey, U must be in Redwood Forest Driving your truck cuz the trees are so big! :) Oh wait, Its an RC. lol... That thing is awesome man, Love the suspension on it, super cool with the leaf springs and all. Very nice! :)

No, it's far away from there, it's in switzerland, central europe!
Wow, holy hell. Definitely going to have to save up for that then. Cheers!
Nice truck bro
Thank you!
Very nice. Its very funny, because the Bruiser has only one side mirror.
how would this one and something like scx 10.2 or trx4 would compare each other?
