"Halo", the new chef d'oeuvre from Finland's melancholic progressive metallers AMORPHIS will be released via Atomic Fire on February 11th. In advance of the record's official unveiling, today the band finally reveals a new single accompanied by a music video filmed in the Finnish snow and directed by Pekka Hara. 'On The Dark Waters' is further proof of the band's undeniable talent in fusing heavy riffs with an epic and melodic chorus, and is not only part of the new album but also available as an exclusive 7'' vinyl.
Lyricist Pekka Kainulainen comments the theme of the track:
"I got the idea to reverse the direction of the Tuonela stream - Tuonela is the realm of the dead in Finnish mythology. So I started writing from the moment of death... And death was not the end, but the beginning."

I love this versión of Amorphis, with a balance between growls and cleans. Tomi Joutsen, one of the greatest metal vocalists ever.
I concur, he be one of my favorites. These guys together I admire, combined into this band make some pure excellent music. Good stuff.
They practically remade and remastered "Better Unborn" with a 2020 style music and it's fucking gorgeous.. Really one of the best bands out there tbh :)

He’s one of the few that does both to such a high level. Melodic parts are done with so much beauty, anguish and emotion then always has such an effortless transition into the aggressive growls. Can change the mood of the song instantly with his vocal delivery

Every fuckin time, Tomi's voice brings tears to my eyes. Well done.
When I discovered Amorphis I had no idea how much they would change my life and how much I would love them, I'm not a fan of harsh vocals and growls, but when I listen to Jutsen his voice comes like a melody, the folk elements, the riffs of Holopainen and the solos from keyboards and guitar are enchanting, they take me on a journey, I become one with their music.

I am amazed on how Amorphis just keeps getting better and better with each release.
I think their'e getting worse. I mean, of course there is tons of potential but they are just too soft, at least for my taste. Old releases were much better

I love this. Amorphis shines the most when they balance clean and growled vocals - Tomi is one of my favorite vocalists out there, he's just SO STRONG and the rest of the band backs him up so well!

Yes indeed, but I would love to hear the more diverse nuances of his super talented voice. For example the doomish screams in Nightbird's song are great! Probably the cleans on this album are the best they have ever recorded. Hair lifting stuff! 🤘🏻

I love the part at 3:48 when he starts singing the phrase, then pauses a few words in. And you're thinking he'll finish the phrase in a few beats but then he holds the pause juuuuust a bit longer. Then he finally comes back in at the last second to complete the phrase. It sounds soooo good! ❤

This album is proving to be, like, the right mix of elements of Under the Red Cloud and Queen of Time. I think they're striking the balance well. Yeah. Yeah, this is good stuff.

All 3 albums (UTRC, QOT and Halo) are produced by the same person.
IDK about other songs but this one was practically a "Better unborn" remaster placed on UTRC.. Just felt that great uniqueness while still preserving everything that this band is about tbh :)

The part from 3:42 on always gets tears in my eyes. The richness, the intensity, the speed. It's so stress relieving, feels so decondensing, soothing and calming, while charging you up with strength at the same time. I discovered the band while hanging out a the Viking bar in Berlin, drinking met. This will be one of my best years.

Tomi really has one of the greatest most underrated vocals ever. I forgot how much I love listening to this man. When I saw them live quite a number of years ago I was blown away by his seamless transition from brutals to cleans. Love all the songs so far from the new album.
I first heard them when they were support for Volbeat (yes, I know..) Usually support bands I'ven ever heard of don't do it for me but holy fucking shit these guys blew me away. Tomi's voice is among my favourites.
THIS! I saw them live three days ago for the first time and I was totally blown away by his voice - the way he uses it is magical! First he's singing normally, just beautiful melodic singing, and then switches to the incredible roar so effortlessly it's unbelievable.

I love the little Middle Eastern touch that you can find in many of their pieces. That's one of the things that got me hooked as soon as I listened to them in concert a while ago.

I love this band. ❤️ So down to Earth. Back in 2016 they made a concert with Godsmack in my city. One day before the concert they and the guys from Godsmack were at a open metal bar in the city drinkin beer and they chatted, made pictures with fans, icluding me,and behaved very friendly with all fans. The drummer Jan even gifted me with an guitar pick with the Amorphis logo.
They seem to be really nice guys.
Hope someday I can see them play live.
