I always love your videos man. No fluff - just pleasant, efficient work from a practical perspective. I work a stressful job and these videos are always oddly calming, just good vibes I guess.
Some excellent ideas there. My dad was a great one from things in glass jars and a recall one set up where he screwed the lid to the underside of a shelf and then screwed the jar back on. The top of the shelf was free for boxed items and the previously unused under side of the shelf became extra storage.
I’m jealous I will check the shed build soon, I plan on buying a new house soon and the one I have now have a huge nice garage for my wood working, but the yard equipment takes up a lot of space
Now I really like this shed! As a matter of fact I have just done a big shed clean out and built special custom shelves out of reclaimed pallet wood. Got some extra projects lined up such as a folding planting bench, and wood storage. I love the bike hanger but in my case we bike the Austrian Alps a lot so mine would never be in the hooks! :)
I've been watching your videos since around lockdown. My 4 year old and I were watching this video and she says "dad you should "scribe him". I said I am already subscribed she said "you should scribe again he would be happy with that" 😂
Looks great Keith, have you ever considered screwing the coffee lids to the underneath of the shelves which frees up the shelves themselves for storing even more stuff, ha ha
I remember, back in the day, my Dad did that, but then the plastic wasn’t as good as it is today. After a few years the lids disintegrated and spilled the contents onto the garage floor.
They may not be "sexy" but I bet you got a great deal of satisfaction from these improvement projects Keith, these will all make life eaisier and ensure the safety of Baby Brown, until he.she is encouraged to experiment with these materials themselves ! Four years - are you kidding me Keith - how can that be ? New or recycled, I love me a roof batten !
You've inspired us to "get cracking" and get things organized! Your shed looks "dreamy" and glam. LOL. Seriously, it is so much less stressful to see spaces we use in a neat orderly state. Thanks for the nudge!
Funny the old internet isn’t it, how many people will quickly dive in to inform you that you will damage your lawn mower engine by storing it like that….. amazing how they are ‘know it alls’ but don’t know enough to do some research before diving in. Idiots. Great work Keith, love a good storage solution.
Really like the gate build and can't believe it's been four years since you built the shed! Where does the time go? One thought, you may want to get lockable ladder hooks for your ladders, they will stop opportunists using your ladders for breaking into your (or your neighbours) house.
Your bike storage idea is something I can definitely use. When storing ladders outdoors I find mounting them on an angle lets the rain drain off the channels better which prevents corrosion and ice from forming which can be hazardous. I believe many service vehicles mount ladders this way for this very reason. Some police departments recommend padlocking your ladder to prevent them from being used in break in attempts.
Hi Keith great video as always and its usually the simple ideas that last the longest. Just want to make a point that most fuel based lawn mowers should be stored horizontally rather than vertically as storing vertically can potentially damage the engine unless the fuel and oil has be drained.
I was thinking the same thing. I stored my mower vertically one season and every time is started it up it would burn a lot of oil. Went back to storing it normally and it has no issues.
That's a benefit of battery mowers. You don't have to worry about oil and petrol going in the wrong places if you store upright. Just gotta stop the electrons falling out 😅
I'm still eying up that Felder saw. I fell in love with Felder when I first came across one of their combination machines at a school day out to a building exhibition in Amsterdam in the eighties. Never owned one because I can't justify the cost, so I've made do with Taiwan made alternatives. This vid shows the early days of the sliding table saw by Altendorf in Germany. Very interesting. th-cam.com/video/jfbuCe_T2CM/w-d-xo.html
Fantastic work as always perfect timing. I'm in the process of organising my double car shed which has become a dumping ground, so much so that my car has been expelled to live outside. I am rebuilding my Ivar shelves to stand on wheels and so become a storage area plus dividing wall between the two halves of the shed. I'll be adding a few brackets to the wall too to store all those garden tools. Not sure what to do with my mower which weighs 50kg and so hanging it vertically is too physically challenging, though I might do it with my 36V Makita mower because it is light enough to lift into position. I always enjoy your videos because they deal with real problems that I too am encountering without whitewashing some of the challenges encountered. Keep it up!
I am 55 yrs young and have had sheds since forever , some have been workshops some just storage . The one thing i have learnt is that no shed or warehouse for that matter is big enough for one man , you will fill every space with things you will never ever need (as in - thatll come in handy ) and at some rushed moment you will just dump stuff in there and go to wickes to buy bits you know youve got somewhere but could take all day finding . Just give in to it , your wasting life .
Therapeutic! There’s enough room in your garden for a village of sheds: potting shed, metalwork, spray painting/varnishing, electrics/electronics/modelling…
I'm assuming your mower is electric but maybe best to let people know that if their mowers are petrol they shouldn't store it upright like you have as it will mean that petrol and oil can leak into motor into places they shouldn't be leaking into.
Your storage ideas are excellent; I will show this video to my husband and it may (or may not,) inspire him to tidy his two sheds! Lovely gate, looks inviting from the garden side, hopefully not too inviting for Baby Brown! Thanks, Keith, another good one.
It's so satisfying sorting your shed isn't it? I've spent a heck of a lot of time sorting mine over the last few months. Kept filling it up further with more and more debris, so cleared all that out (mainly bicycle restoration projects) and I've now rearranged it to a useable workshop space. I love the amount of pottering that can be done within a shed.
Wow. Four years... Time flies. Love the new shed layout. Simple things... Using the ladder to lift the timber while cutting; Why didn't I think of that? You can bet I'll be using that tip in the future instead of looking for 2X4 off cuts.
Just curious, given the tracking pan shots, if you’re using a 360° camera and a face tracking feature or just shooting wide then cropping and tracking? Video quality was great.
You gave me some really good ideas. I've been racking my brain for months trying to figure out how to put the bikes out of the way but still in the garage where they're safe.
Must be the time of year, because I have the same urge to go out into my shop and reorganise it all. You forgot the word "scrap" on your sign though 😄 Just curious: can you get to the dowel for your bike easily? It seems blocked by the block holding up your wife's bike?
Nice organization porn, very inspiring! I have to say though, I have a truckload of Milwaukee cordless tools and love them, but seeing how much space that red mower takes makes me that much happier to have gone green for my cordless garden tools 😃
Recently found your channel. Very nice. I like all the REAL things. Like things when goes by plan, sometimes talkkng about natural mistakes that occur. Best of luck 🍻
Great timing, for the first time. Putting a short wall perpendicular to the sides opens up a lot more flexibility (like Mr M’s workshop). I have a garage in that configuration and the loss of open plan space is more than compensated for by beeing actually able to have a workshop and garage, rather than a big mess of stuff. I’ve just built a triangular (garden room) shed, and I appreciate the ideas.
Great video Keith. Loved the gate. I know it may not look right, but for the same reason, (run off) it’s best to hang ladders at a slight tilt, especially if your in an area where the water in the channels ices over.
Good video, just one point may come back to bite you in a few years, never ever embed the bottom of a post in cement/concrete, moisture will collect in the post and it will end up rotting off at ground level (yes, even treated posts) the concrete should form a collar around the post with the bottom open so that any moisture that gets into the post from the top can drain out at the bottom. Bugs won't come near it because of the treatment but moisture will cause the timber to rot. The best option is to place some gravel at the bottom of the hole, place the post on top of the gravel, place a small quantity of soil around the post and then place the concrete around the pole the rest of the way up to the top of the hole.
