  • I went out for a JUNK HUNT around the city of Norwich and found loads of materials and then used them to make a woodworking project! I like using waste materials in my project so searching the alleyways, communal bin areas and skip diving or dumpster diving is a great way to find things!

    That first wood hunt was 8 years ago?!! Wow. I guess I have been watching a long time. Your use of salvaged materials is what sucked me into your channel. I don't do woodworking at all, but I love the inventiveness and creativity of your work. The step-stool turned out very nice and looks much sturdier than a store-bought one.

  • @asobstoryforeverysong9853
    @asobstoryforeverysong9853 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    That was great. I think what would be really good is if you found a skip outside someone's house, then asked them if you could root through and make them something with whatever you find. Something they could actually use. Then they get something made from things they would have sent to the tip, and you get a great video out of it.

    I enjoy these junk hunt videos very much. I have never done it anything like it myself but recently i picked up an entire large trailer and truckload of walnut, maple, cherry, and oak at an estate sale. Several thousand dollars worth of wood acquired for just 181 dollars and two hours of labor to load it.

    It always amazes me what people throw away. You can really find treasures if you know where to look, and if you look often enough. Recently I fished a fully working PC monitor out of a skip, a fairly nice model even. And tomorrow I'm going to remodel my garden shed, and the hardwood double glazed window that's going in was a dumpster find as well. It pains me a bit to see how much perfect good stuff is thrown away, but it is nice to get free stuff!

    Really enjoyed that Keith, it's amazing what you can make from discarded wood and metal that people consider "junk" and will last many lifetimes, unlike the Ikea rubbish that everyone seems to love. I get though that many people don't like the "dark" or "wood" look so go for the cardboard coated wood so would be interested in seeing what you could make from salvaged "white" materials too like melamine chipboard at a push or real wood that is "whitened" using stain and or just whitewash... I know that it's not your style for your own home but these would probably sell...

    I completed an Operating Theatre course in Norwich back in 1983. Your ramble wood hunt with views of the city brought back many happy memories. If I ever return to England, Norwich is where I would settle. Please feel free to make as many rambling wood hunts as you like. I personally hunt for pallets for my projects. Mostly, the soft wood variates as some of the hard wood ones are as tough as concrete!. Currently making a chair side table out of Hasqvana pallet wood. Keep up the good work on the videos; they are very enjoyable, educational, and inspiring. Sarah from Tasmania

    Thanks Keith, nice to see you revisiting your roots, I share your mixed emotions about what you found, it could be good news and you've influenced people to repurpose and recycle items and it could. be that councils are doing more, but not east to evaluate. The project came out well and the cost being some strolling around in the sun is appealing, but this is a tough thing to make a business out of unless you have a successful TH-cam channel ! I love this sort of content, and really appreciate how candid you are about what you find !

    I really enjoy this video concept! And the stool you made is quite nice! I'll definitely watch as many of these as you care to do.

    We are all the same, are we not?
    Can't pass a container or junkpile without checking it, have my "adresses" and so on.
    There is so much good wood, for free! And its fun, the thrill of the seek.
    Great video again, thank you, and i'm glad you think of your hearing while changing a lightbulb. You never know.

    Loved this, enjoyed the junk hunt more than i should have! And the recycled woodwork element you used to do so much of - make more!

    Loved this, and wow i'm amazed at how nice the stool became all because of those cutouts, you've become an amazing designer.

    I get most of my material in the alleyways here in Chicago. Amazing what you find. Especially when a lot of remodeling is going on around you.
