@@lubey_lu Maybe, but "started farming for the first time" isn't black and white. Humankind is a great game and I don't understand the mediocre reviews. I think some of it is just that we are all so used to Civ (which is amazing), and the differences are difficult to engage with. And there is a lot happening that isn't clear at all.
Soo happy to see you give this game the long examination it deserves. Looking forward to the forthcoming episodes of this series. BTW, I really loved Old World and hope those videos performed well. I would love to see you do more on that game as well as more Humankind to join your Civ 6 fare. Love ya!
Oh, thanks for this video! I learned a few small things that I missed through my first playthrough that were very good things to discover. I've been playing Civ for....forever. Humankind is definitely a little different than the approach I'm used to taking.
The two things I most love about Humankind-conceptually-are the fact that your Civilization Choice is delayed until multiple turns into the game, and the fact that your culture evolves over the ages as your identity changes. I also like that they seem to have adopted a Civics approach very similar to the one in Civilization IV, but a tile working system most like Civilization VI ;).
Hi, new here. Love your style of commentary and how you explain the game mechanics. Was simply going watch a couple of these to learn the basics of the game and move on but than you spoke about your annoyance with "Let's Players" that don't fully understand the game mechanics and how that drove you to create your own channel. Pretty much an instant subscribe from me when I heard that. Carry on good sir, you've earned a follower.
When fighting a mammoth, don't attack the first 2 turns. You'll take way less damage if you let the mammoth slowly kill itself. Then strike with both units turn 3
Zhou Dynasty was the 2nd known dynasties (or 3rd if you count the mystic Xia Dynasty) of China. And one of the longest. Although for the 2nd half of the Zhou Dynasty the central government lost control of the majority of the territories to the regional Kings. Until Qin Shi Huang united the empire and ended the Zhou.
Thanks for the information play through - very helpful!! (the Zhou is pronounce "Jo(e)" Zh= J . ) So a modern city like Guangzhou is pronounced QUONGJO... just an informative.. :-)

When you started talking about how you felt frustrated watching people bad at the game play it I felt that deep in my soul lol. Humankind has been especially bad with this because it was so hyped and despite the fact I haven't had enough time to learn it yet I was still watching them make horrible decisions and it genuinely made me have a bad time watching them. Honestly I don't think I've had that experience on any of your videos and that kind of dedication really does make a difference, it just sucks that you don't get anywhere near the recognition you deserve for it.
this is a great video, really. very well explained and very intelligent play. one thing maybe for new players who can get frustrated by not achieving the same results are you: i've been playing lots of different starts these past few days to experiment on optimal neolithic playstyle and I have to point out that the start your have here is really a great one (when you factor in yields closely available, curiosities, mammoth spawning, not to mention finding a natural wonder so quick) - really in over 30 neolithic playthroughs only once did I get a better start than this one: all others, either there was no early mammoth to kill to gain early influence, difficult terrain, lackluster curiosities (even with the autoexplore trick on) or simply no great tiles (almost none close to 10/10 or more) in the first 10 rounds. this doesn't diminish at all your play, don't get me wrong, but if new players can't replicate what you're doing in such few rounds, it's okay some starts are better than others
A lot of good CIV differences @56:00 and on 1. A district isn’t about the tile it’s on, it’s getting its score from the 6 adjacent tiles 2. Land value changes. Eg a Maker district (+Industry) REMOVES all food from that tile
The nuts offer a higher amount of food sustenance, cause there are proteins in nuts which will provide you with more energy than simple berries. ;) Anyway, thanks for the video! I'm a Civ fan and was so motivated to play Humankind, but didn't understand half of it on my PS5. That video was very useful!
DAAAAAAAAAANG! I've been looking for a game that combines up to 60 different historical cultures you can use to lead your people from the ancient to the modern age and also has a place where you can research and make scientific breakthrough's! (Like if you get the rephrase 😂)
this is good stuff. I have played until turn 800ish and conquered almost everything and still have the feeling I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time. I bet this series will all the gaps
5:32 Especially in the earliest era you should always go one spot at a time because each time you move you then reveal more of the fogged area so you'll have more info to work with before spending the rest of the movement. You might see something to collect or locate an animal. Saving your precious movement each turn saves you turns potentially which in the early game is important. If you can get out of that starting era in 10 turns or less generally you are doing good.

Core i7 6700
GTX980TI 6GB
16GB ram
Running on a SATA 3.0 HDD 2TB
Really like that point you made about learning mechanics in depth- that in depth comprehension and articulation is exactly why I love your channel!
I love that you have to find and earn your ability to start your first settlement
Them sponsoring you paid off, as I totally just bought the early access bonus edition solely because of your 2 series videos! And now I’m watching them again because my first game I’m stinking up the place. Thanks again!
I played hundreds of hours of all the Civs and Endless Legend, and 5 hours of my first Humankind game, and I learned some good stuff from this video
Loved the stormlight reference! Life before death radiant!
8:20 Didn't expect to hear a Stormlight reference here.
That Egyptian clothing is called a shendyt. It is essentially a linen kilt.
I started playing this game a few weeks ago, had no idea what I was doing then watched your videos and I feel like a pro! Thank you!!
This is a relatively complex game, and you broke down the major ideals with absolute clarity. Thank you!
Hey there!
I can really relate to that little "Why you became a TH-camr rant"
Nothing is more frustrating for me then a content creator having no freaking clue what they are doing in the game.
While it can be entertaining for a little bit, that quickly fades away imo.
Keep up the really high quality gameplay Potato.
Why does a few of my current and former TH-cam subscriptions fit so elegant into this category?
I love the Stormlight reference. You get a like, lol.
I really appreciate all the effort that means making videos like this. Mankind isn’t the most popular game of the moment and I’m pretty sure that you’re not going to get a lot of views or likes, but, even with that, you did this video! That talk a lot about you. Thank you!
Another great tutorial, Potato never dissapoints
Thank you for going through the game slowly and taking the time to explain so many of the details of the game mechanics, it really helps.
loved the Stormlight reference
Stormlight Achieve reference was dope
39:15 Hey! You know what? You're making okay decisions.
you are the best person I have watched when it comes to actually explaining the mechanics of a game. Thank you. Ill be downloading this come later.
Journey before Destination!
Amazing guide! Extremely helpful and easy to understand in-depth mechanics for a noob "Civ" player like myself just getting into Humankind. Thank you very much!
You said there was a million combinations, then said the exact one i did. The chances of that...
I'm so happy civ has two new competitors with humankind and old world pushing the genre forward and force advancement.
started to play humankind, dont have much time due to kids, could not get the game mechanis properly, started to think about it and looking for answers.. then did a facepalm.... potato.... youtube "potato humankind" and there it is :)
Humankind is a great game and I don't understand the mediocre reviews. I think some of it is just that we are all so used to Civ (which is amazing), and the differences are difficult to engage with. And there is a lot happening that isn't clear at all.
I wasn't sure if I was going to get this. Potato dropping A Stormlight reference (despite having no real bearing on gameplay) just made my mind up.
Soo happy to see you give this game the long examination it deserves. Looking forward to the forthcoming episodes of this series. BTW, I really loved Old World and hope those videos performed well. I would love to see you do more on that game as well as more Humankind to join your Civ 6 fare. Love ya!
You can beat the mammoth with one tribe if you exploit the high ground ;) Very nice video
I love your overexplained . Highly useful
Public service announcement: The game is available in the Xbox Game Pass for PC
Angry deer gets the high ground and you turn into Anakin….
Potato can become a comedian lol
Yay. Will be interesting to see what the release is like and if the balance issues are sorted.
Potato is a SA fan?! One of us! One of us!
I would follow the ginger bearded warrior lady to the gates of Mordor.
Oh, thanks for this video! I learned a few small things that I missed through my first playthrough that were very good things to discover. I've been playing Civ for....forever. Humankind is definitely a little different than the approach I'm used to taking.
Thanks for taking the time Potato. Really appreciate the explanations.
Was not expecting the Stormlight Archive reference, but I'm delighted to hear it.
This was awesome, and I appreciate the care you took in walking us through every step of the beginning
literally a college lecture on videogames and I love it
When fighting a mammoth, don't attack the first 2 turns.
You're a Legend for this Guides. Around since Civ 6 and helped me out a lot. Thx for all your hard work to make all this great Videos
Thanks for the tutorials! I watched your videos for beta and already was hooked, so immediately bought the game when it came out.
1:50 this is now what I see when I picture Saol
I appreciate you skipping the cutscenes so that they are still a surprise for us when we first play the game!
Thanks for the information play through - very helpful!! (the Zhou is pronounce "Jo(e)" Zh= J . ) So a modern city like Guangzhou is pronounced QUONGJO... just an informative.. :-)
absolute banger, as always
I love how the intro the like choose map size shows the size of the planet then the random one is a dice
Im just picturing the random Option spawning you on a Giant dice
When you started talking about how you felt frustrated watching people bad at the game play it I felt that deep in my soul lol. Humankind has been especially bad with this because it was so hyped and despite the fact I haven't had enough time to learn it yet I was still watching them make horrible decisions and it genuinely made me have a bad time watching them. Honestly I don't think I've had that experience on any of your videos and that kind of dedication really does make a difference, it just sucks that you don't get anywhere near the recognition you deserve for it.
Enigma of Amigara Fault came to mind when you talked about the holes being for the people.
this is a great video, really. very well explained and very intelligent play. one thing maybe for new players who can get frustrated by not achieving the same results are you: i've been playing lots of different starts these past few days to experiment on optimal neolithic playstyle and I have to point out that the start your have here is really a great one (when you factor in yields closely available, curiosities, mammoth spawning, not to mention finding a natural wonder so quick) - really in over 30 neolithic playthroughs only once did I get a better start than this one: all others, either there was no early mammoth to kill to gain early influence, difficult terrain, lackluster curiosities (even with the autoexplore trick on) or simply no great tiles (almost none close to 10/10 or more) in the first 10 rounds. this doesn't diminish at all your play, don't get me wrong, but if new players can't replicate what you're doing in such few rounds, it's okay some starts are better than others
Played at launch as well, no clue what to do without master tater's advice. I neeeeeeeed part 2
I love your civ content whiskey, and your humankind series is turning out just as good. Can’t wait to get my hands on the game!
A lot of good CIV differences @56:00 and on
1. A district isn’t about the tile it’s on, it’s getting its score from the 6 adjacent tiles
Thank you, Potato! Your explanatory videos are so helpful. Made me a better Civ player and will no doubt be the same for Humankind!
DAAAAAAAAAANG! I've been looking for a game that combines up to 60 different historical cultures you can use to lead your people from the ancient to the modern age and also has a place where you can research and make scientific breakthrough's! (Like if you get the rephrase 😂)
Great video Potato! Love your in-depth style that works suprisingly well at playback speed 1.75...
"I like the idea of having some ginger haired warrior lady." Same brother
Your avatar... He's so beautiful.
how many hearts do you wanna give?
Potato: yes
I think i'll be downloading this tonight - looks good.
Well, I downloaded it - game is great but I’m not. Keep making Humankind videos please or I’m screwed 😂
this is good stuff. I have played until turn 800ish and conquered almost everything and still have the feeling I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time. I bet this series will all the gaps
A great vid to help me dip my toes into the pool of Humankind. Thank you!
''might I say deez nu-"
I completely loose it
5:32 Especially in the earliest era you should always go one spot at a time because each time you move you then reveal more of the fogged area so you'll have more info to work with before spending the rest of the movement. You might see something to collect or locate an animal. Saving your precious movement each turn saves you turns potentially which in the early game is important. If you can get out of that starting era in 10 turns or less generally you are doing good.
