    New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has done a great job turning his defense around over his first two seasons in charge. With help from cornerback Sauce Gardner, and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, here's how Saleh has made the Jets defense dominant.

    Let me correct you. It was Saleh, Sauce, DJ Reed and lets not forget Michael Carter 2. Carter 2 doesn't get much love, but the kid is a baller as well.

      Him n dj reed make it so a qb has nobody to pick on. So just avoiding sauce doesn’t even help the opposition. With our other good players it kinda makes it even easier to figure a offense out lol

    Before Sauce was even drafted I was telling people that he was going to be the best corner in the league eventually, and if things broke right maybe among the best DBs the game has ever seen. Just an extremely, extremely rare combination of size, speed, craft, athleticism and intelligence. I remember I saw his field drills at the combine, and the absolutely ridiculous way he could flip his hips plus his incredible foot speed. He is a special, special player and I can't believe the Texans passed on him for Stingley. Who I have nothing against but he just doesn't have it like Sauce

    Not even just talent with the players the jets drafted + brought in but its also there personality.. they brought in dawgs with so much passion.. even last years draft class, it was so easy to tell how good they were going to be, after hearing them talk.. ppl think its mostly talent (which they have a lot of) but man brains and personality is so much more important and goes a long long long way and thats how u change the culture/franchise

Love what Saleh and JD have done with this team, I know we have a tougher schedule this year, but you can’t be one of the best if you don’t beat them. Hoping the O-line stays healthy, the defense stays out of its mind, Breece can come back quickly and Rodgers comes swinging out the gate. If all those things could happen, the Jets will rise to the occasion and be a tough team to beat this year.

    Really impressive stuff by Sauce in some of the later clips you showed - also, i know it's not just this simple, but a general point you seemed to make is that the two high shell allows for more disguised coverages instead of heavier boxes, so...what exactly prevented Saleh from doing that year one? Was it just personnel, or the aggressive style of defense that prioritized run stops?
    Eager to see your takes on the incoming draft prospects, too! Keep up the good work

    • @BillyStephens
      @BillyStephens  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The way I see it is personnel forced Saleh and his staff into the tendencies. I think it's tough to say whether or not the `22 tendencies would have improved the performance in `21 because the personnel was so much worse.

    • @BillyStephens
      @BillyStephens  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily. 0-blitzes are only part of the picture. It can be difficult to differentiate between MOFO and MOFC on some hard play action/RPO/screen concepts, so some of those plays may be in their own category. I gathered those stats from Sports Info Solutions and I'm not an expert in the tracking process, so I could be wrong.
