      @Tamara Fletcher to be fair, the guy is right. We always think that humans are the kings of nature and where we make our house is somewhat to be considered as our natural habitat (basically, everywhere where we can step into and build house to live in, we consider as OUR territory). But is is not like that. If you moved to live closer to the wildlife, it is YOU living in a habitat of animals, who originally live there. So why you surprised they could be walking in THEIR territory next to your house? And didn't you know, that if predators killed your pets, it is entirely your fault, because you were not cautious enough? You knew where you moved, and you knew the dangers around, and you still didn't protect your pet? I'm outta words, because I don't wanna be rude to you. People blaming wild animals for their own arrogance, ignorance and lack of common sense. Fantastic. Really, I'm out of words.

    • @golddredging
      @golddredging 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Tamara Fletcher You took a domesticated cat to your home where wild predators live, they did what is natural to them and shredded your cat and you are whining about it, you actually brought the meal to them and then blame them for killing it, you are directly responsible for the death of your pet.

      Helen Must Actually hybrids do exist, it doesn’t happen often, but like a wolf/dog hybrid it does actually happen. And look up the origins of the Maine Coon cat, the prevailing theory is European settlers brought their domestic cats to America and those cats mated with the native wild cats (American bobcat). That’s why Maine coins have tuffs of fur on their ears like the bobcat.

    • @infinityentity
      @infinityentity 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@SaintFort Bobcats are more likely to eat housecats but in theory they can mate, chances of succesfully having offspring are slim however. There's no definitive evidence of any existing hybrids so op having had a actual half bobcat as a pet is highly improbable.
      Domestic/wild cat breeds also just don't make for good house pets because they're still largely wild in behavior and thus much more demanding and dangerous. You have to breed hybrids with domestic cats for at least four generations before they start to mellow out, look at Savannah cats (half serval) as a example if you're curious.

    How fortunate to have Bobcats roaming your yard.

  • @ljdmanxfella5793
    @ljdmanxfella5793 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    *Of all wild cats, even up to tigers and lions, the Bob Cat is probably the most intelligent. At around **2:51** in the video (where the cameraman begins to verbally tut), would have been the ideal time to drop a few small cubes of cheese on to the concrete the cat had been sat on. That's assuming he wanted the cat to return of course, and perhaps develop a bond with this beautiful animal. It's something most people (understandably) aren't aware of, but ironically, the sounds people typically make to try and attract a Bob Cat or Fox etc, i.e. verbal clicks, tuts and whistles, are ALL warning and/or mildly aggressive sound signals in a cat's world.*
    *So in effect, by making such noises, you're actually telling the cat to **_"buzz off and don't come back, or there'll be trouble!"_** Anyone with experience of owning a (domestic) cat, will know that when a cat is relaxed and/or content, he/she will make a long, slow, deep, purring noise. And it's exactly the same with most wild cats other than lions (which use a kind of glottal grunt). So if you want to let a Bob Cat know that you mean it no harm, and that you're basically, a **_'friendly force',_** you should try to emulate that same long, slow, deep, purring sound that a house cat makes when relaxed. Great video footage though. I know I'm probably stating the obvious, but it's NOT a good idea to encourage a Bob Cat to come around, if you have a pet/domesticated cat of your own. A Bob Cat would be highly likely to think of your own cat, as nothing more than lunch-on-legs!*

      It is extremely unlikely that a bobcat will attack a human. Bobcats are opportunistic hunters. If bobcats are known to be in the area, keep cats indoors and supervise small dogs when they are in the yard, as they may be vulnerable.

      @@coolcat6303 - not sure I would consider a domesticated cat "large". A bobcat is more than capable of killing his cat and his cat seems to agree based on its reaction. While I do agree with you that it isn't overly likely. It's also not a chance I would take with one of my pets just so they could have "outside time". Besides, if he has a bobcat in the area that is that healthy. I guarantee he has coyotes and others in the area that would be more that happy to and very capable of making his cat dinner. Indoor only time for that cat imo.

      They can indeed cross-breed. One of my friends growing up had a wild-looking "kitten" they found out in the fields. Loved to tackle soccer and volleyballs while we were playing a game. He quickly grew to fit his name, Maximus, at around 25 pounds of muscle; golden tabby markings but a shortened tall, tufted ears, and long sideburns all marked his wild ancestors. The neighborhood dogs were all terrified of him, he had free reign of his territory.
