  • The process of making orange juice on a humongous scale. The Americans drink so much of the stuff I'm surprised they still have any left for export.

      +Alpha Cat I'm guessing it depends on the tooth paste you use. most common brands have chemicals that, while they clean your teeth and gums, it causes your tongue's taste buds to be unable to taste sweet flavores. so all that's left is the remaining bitter and sour flavors in orange juice.

    In a past life I used to deliver freight to Tropicana's plant in Ft. Pierce. They do not waste anything in the Orange business. The peels are turned into fertilizer or sold to local ranchers for cow feed. Cow's love orange peel!

      Watch Morgan Spurlock's special on orange pickers in Florida. Illegal immigrants paid next to nothing for hours of hard labor, by huge conglomerates, all to save US the consumer from having to pay $12 a carton.

      DemonAMVs It wasn't meant to sound like that but, I guess it came off that way. Oranges seem to primarily come from Florida so I wasn't sure if Floridian growers shipped their fruit all over the world. It's sort of like how Coconut water wasn't really a thing in America, only Brazilians really had a taste for it until about a few years ago before that Vitacoco stuff took off.

    • @TheDerpReaper
      @TheDerpReaper 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Epurope wait what? only brazillians? Here in germany we had coconut water for atleast 8-10 years now. most sweet oranges come from brazil. Here in Germany we do have our own Oranges but we import them from Greece and Spain aswell.

    • @wiilyum
      @wiilyum 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheDerpReaper Yeah Coconut Water is kind of a new thing in America they just started selling it in most commercial stores no less than 4 years ago. Other than that if you really wanted some you had to look for it really hard and 8-10 years is still relatively new compared to how long the Brazilians have had it.

      they suck out all the oxygen, to make it so it lasts, cause oranges dont last long with oxygen, so then once the oxygen is sucked out it does not taste of much, so they add pulp, its basicly ground orange skins to add the oragne flavour back in

    Why do people consider Orange Juice a breakfast drink? I drink it at any time of day and it's great! Still, I have heard so many people consider it a breakfast drink. Even my own brother considers it a breakfast drink. The narrator says it here too.

    • @OnyxCross
      @OnyxCross 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think it may be because of the fact that people associate orange juice for its fresh, crisp taste, texture, and its health benefits. All of which, when combined within the first hour or two after waking up, boost your immune system...As an added bonus, orange juice tends to go well with breakfast meals or drinks (i.e, pancakes, waffles, bacon and eggs, even coffee, etc.).

    • @rickJstar
      @rickJstar 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was the way it was advertised in the 1950s up to get it popular. With more people skipping breakfast now, OJ is seeing less consumption. It is being advertised less like a breakfast drink, but its hard to shake off a stereotype that has existed for more than 50 years.

      Mark Mason I suggest you read about orange juice production. The way the juice is pasteurized boils out both the flavor and denatures (like when you cook) a lot of the healthy stuff in the juice. The resulting liquid is so nasty and bland they add artificial orange flavors and a ton of sugar.

    • @obliviondio

    How I get Orange Juice,
    1. Parents planted some orange trees.
    2. Me. Pick orange when ripe.
    3. Cut in quarters and eat with all the goodness still intact.
    Packaged orange juice should be the last choice, as you can see most of the good components and fibers are taken out before packaging.

    They left out the part where they store it for over a year in an oxygen free environment which eliminates the flavor and makes them taste like water, so that they have to add the flavor back in with "flavor packs" that they buy from companies that specialize in making them for different juice companies, hence the REAL reason for the taste testers, and also why the juice is so consistent in flavor carton to carton. It's also why REAL orange juice is so much better than this crap. How can this idiot claim to love oranges and orange juice when he mutilates the oranges in so brutal a fashion, and doesn't really seem to be making actual orange juice?

    • @RosieBrownie
      @RosieBrownie 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Exactly! At the end of the day, their goal is to sell as much as possible, so why don't they just pour all the artificial crap and sugar and mix with some water instead of ruin perfectly fine, real orange juice without the need to add artificial flavoring??
      That crap wasn't supposed to the there anyway. I love homemade orange juice.

They store a year's worth of orange juice so that when the supply of oranges runs short due to drought or freezing temperatures they can still meet the demand. Haven't you noticed that no matter what happens there's always juice at the supermarket?

Im not saying its anywhere CLOSE to as bad as these people, but I know their juices at the juice bar are not actually as healthy and nutritious as they could be. This is coming from someone who buys all his groceries at whole foods. No hate here!

      What he said is true though. While both versions of orange juice are unhealthy (as all juices are,) the version with pulp is objectively healthier since it has increased fiber, which helps mitigate the issue that makes juice unhealthy in the first place (too much sugar, not enough fiber.)

    "The fruit so popular they named a color after it" - Amazingly, that's actually the way it went. Most languages who have/had no name for it, just call it yellow-red or something like that (for instance, in Japanese it's just "orenji" because they had no specific word before it was imported). The way a person sees colors and is able to differentiate between them is very much influenced by the words we use for them and the contexts in which they are useful, kind of like a color interpretation primer.
    Just think of the fact that brown is basically just a dark orange (at least scientifically, even down to how our cone cells react to them). But there is no actual context where this knowlegde is useful, because there are so many more shades of brown that are meaningful to us in real life, that the glaring orange is just something completely different and that's how we see and interpret it.

  • @privacyvalued4134

    The best orange juice is hand-squeezed from fruit you picked yourself from a carefully maintained orange tree. Industrial-scale simply can't beat the flavor. Also, the pulp in hand-squeezed orange juice is a vastly different texture from the pulp you get from the industrial, grocery store orange juice. If you've only ever had commercially produced orange juice, then you've never had orange juice.

    yeah, this is not how orange juice is made. they forgot to tell you the juice is stored for a year and the oxygen removed leaving the juice tasting like sugar water. Flavor then needs to be added back in via flavor packs that our essentially perfumes made by the very companies that make your cologne. During the pasteurizing process, the vitamin C is killed off and so this will need to be added back in as well via animal bone powder. Yum! this is why many orange juices are not vegetarian.

    India - The Birthplace of Oranges (called as Naranga in Indian/Hindu Sanskrit language)
    Orange suffered an identity crisis, having no name in European languages until orange, the fruit arrived from India. The ancestor of the modern orange grew wild in North India and eventually came by boat to Europe. India has two Sanskrit names for this fruit, naranga and santara. Naranga became naranj in Arabic, then the Sanskrit word was borrowed into European languages through Persian narang, Armanian narinj, Arabic naranj, Spanish naranja and Portuguese laranja, Latin arangia, Italian arancia and Old French oreg. English altered it to orange; Santara (Hindu/Sanskirt) went to the Portuguese as cintra hence citrus and related words.

    • @verpauly
      @verpauly 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, the sugar is already in the orange. Oranges don't get picked until the Brixs(aka sugars) are up. Sometimes, brands will have propriety blends and either blend up or down the brix, add flavor -packs( products of the oranges.).
      Pulpwash, also a bi product as a result of removing the pulp from the juice is sold to companies producing those 10% juice added products. There was the sugars and fruitose is added.
      why remove the pulp you may ask, it doesn't like the evaporators and high temperatures, turns black in a flash and clogged the tubs bundles.

    wow way to completely skip over the part where the juice is cooked and heated to like 180 degrees and then turned to concentrate and then skipped over the whole part of that concentrate "juice" sitting in a tank for months at a time before being drained and finally used months after if was squeezed and mixed with all those chemicals and "natural flavors" and "natural colors" to make it look like orange juice again instead of the dull, gross looking sludge type liquid it was before adding the chemicals and water and then still labeling it "fresh squeezed 100% real" orange juice... even though the only way to get an actual glass of real orange juice these days, were it's literally just the juice from the orange in your glass. @@korrblank1361 I didn't say it wasn't orange juice, just that the flavor is fake. When orange juice is put through the preservation process, it's oxygen is removed, and the true orange juice flavor simply cannot exist without oxygen infused with itself, so it loses all taste. They add artificial flavoring to the now flavorless juice to maintain it's nutritional contents.

      @@angelvaldivia86 Inflation is the expansion of the money supply and credit by the US government and the Federal Reserve. This means that prices aren't increasing. Its the value of the dollar that is decreasing. If you measure prices by using gold instead of dollars, prices have been decreasing. This includes rent, utilities, gasoline, houses, apartments, cars, tuition, etc. If you use dollars, prices are increasing. So all holders and users of the US dollar experience rising prices. So, it isn't specific to Texas nor is it a phenomenon. The dollar used to be backed by gold, but unfortunately that ended in 1971.

    What they're not telling you is the part of the process that sees the OJ heated to extreme heat to pasteurize it, which destroys a third of the vitamin C content. Nor does it differentiate between OJ from concentrate and not from concentrate. Nor does it tell you that pasteurizations kills the natural flavour of the juice and so manufacturers have to add a "flavour pack" to the juice as a final step before putting it in containers for sale. And the contents of that "flavour pack", by the way, is not required by the FDA to be detailed in the ingredients on the packaging. Oh, and they also don't tell you that those containers are often sterilized with hydrogen peroxide. OJ is a highly processed food when bought from these companies. In anycase, don't drink your calories - it isn't good for you and will make you FAT. You're far better off squeezing half a lemon in to a big glass of water and adding a tbsp of apple cider vinegar. Or eat and orange. Don;t be so bloody lazy sugar-dependent - it's a form of control that people need to avoid.
