    Oddly enough illustrator usually has more than 1 way to solve a problem.
    Before I watched this video, I would done these results through clipping mask or pathfinder. But it’s good to know there’s other cool options available too

    Hi.
    how to combine two shapes of different colors into a compound path so that they have a different color?

  • @ElieBeth___
    @ElieBeth___ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    When I make the compound path using the same shapes, I can't move the inner circle around like you do. I select the inner circle with the selection or direct selection tool, and all it does is move the square and circle together. What did I do wrong? Thanks

    You just solved an issue that was making me crazy while trying to join 3 different colored objects and then bring them into text as a clipping mask. Nothing I did would work. And funny because you mentioned here that "Designers sometimes forget... th-cam.com/video/T8FIYJE0Y2E/w-d-xo.html" and while I had my text outlined as a shape, I didn't even think to "make it a compound shape" and so all objects would just go blank every time I tried the clipping mask. I've done plenty of clipping masks but for some reason this one had me puzzled! Thank you so much!

    You don't need to do that in order to create clipping mask from text.
