NO EQUIPMENT AGILITY FOUNDATION EXERCISES FOR DOGS AND PUPPIES | Start here before starting agility

- Before you start agility with your dog you need to teach these 10 foundation exercises first. These 10 exercises require no equipment.
As puppies should not be doing any high impact activities before their growth plates close, they shouldn't be jumping agility jumps. These no equipment agility foundation exercises are perfect for your puppy to learn before they can start agility.
Working on these foundation agility skills will put them in a good position for when you start agility training.
ALL dogs (adults and puppies) should practice these small sample of skills and behaviours BEFORE beginning obstacle skills for agility.

Actually the wobble cushion is a good idea. I have one for myself but I think I’ll start getting my dog on that this week as my agility trainer is introduce the seesaw next lesson. (Thank you) your tips and hints are amazing.
I’ve got a little mixed breed shelter pup that is smarter than me and teaching himself things (he accidentally learned to sit on command just from watching my parents’ dogs, he fetched the first time I threw something for him, etc). This is really helpful to have somewhere to go with him, because he certainly wants to learn.
This is the best agility introduction training video I’ve found. Want to get my two year old border collie mix in agility, she’s so fast!

Aloha! Mahalo for this video! Just got a 4month old ChiPin when I noticed she is so agile! She made her own game, running, jumping and carrying her toy and ball and throwing and fetching it herself haha. I thought she's a good candidate for this training! So I found your video and started using some basic trainings right away and she caught on straight away! Coming to her name, solid Stay, Touch, Mark (well she thinks it's a toy) but we'll get there! Thanks for the fun foundational tips! I look forward to continued progression!

Yes, helpful. I startedbmy 4.5 yr old corgi in agility. It was obvious that we had some basic skills to master. Tonight was 3rd class. We did good. But this is helpful to give us some ground work, before next class.
My new puppy that can’t yet do obstacles because he is to young really enjoyed this early agility also demonstrated by my older award winning agility dog so thank you this really helped 😊

Thank you so much for this video. We have a 12 week old Catahoula, and he is already in need of serious physical and thinking exercises. .
He is a very smart dog. He knows all his basic commands, makes up his own games and loves to herd the chickens when it’s time to put them back in the coop.
We live very remotely here in the Far North of New Zealand so we don’t have access to a club, as our closest is 2 hours away. For those living further it’s more like 4-5 hours. Some of us ladies are keen to start our own Amateur agility club to keep our dogs active and engaged. Your video is a great start for us to learn the basics, so thanks again.

hahaah when your other dog wanders off in seeming disgust as you reward Luna for her pivot on the wash tub! I definitely find it hard to train my two simultaneously, as one is much older (14) but still wants very much to participate, and they both get annoyed at each other if they see the other one working! I usually have to crate one in a different room with the door closed so he/she doesn't hear all the clicking and praising and treat-giving!
Awesome video Beth. Am wanting to teach an Intro to Agility course (6 weeks long) on the basics. Our local dog club only has jumps and a fabric tunnel at the moment, so we would be referring on to other Agility places once they get the basics down. I know it's all about the path. You wouldn't happen to have any outline to present to the board would you? I plan to incorporate this video if you wouldn't mind. Have also watched The Doggie Dojo and Susan Garrett. Even I travel over an hour to get to an Agility class. And of course they fill up fast so the more legwork we can give our students to progress, the better. Love that this video shows what you can do at home without equipment too!

This was excellent, thanks so much! I have a 5-mo old Chihuahua and I think she'd love agility. She already knows some of these commands either slightly or very well, so I'll get working on them with her so she'll be ready to start training when it's time

Would you use bottom sit in place of target if thats what ive been training with mine?

Yes you don't need to buy a lot of equipment. I did the same thing , you did some different one , that I will try to do( balancing). Great job to you and your helpers

I didn't understand the self control. You hold the treat till he back of and then give it to him?
My 9 lb Shi-Poo's neck is too fragile for the collar hold. I'd probably hold on with a harness. My mom's dog could stand it though. She's a tough little ball of fire.
My d0g doesnt have a favorite toy. She’s not always interested in treats even liver or chicken.
Couldn't watched past 6 ish, with that much tension on her collar and neck. I have a chihuahua so that's a recipe for collapsed trachea.
I agree, I felt really uncomfortable seeing the handler use the dogs collar so much. A simple Sit & Stay would be much more impressive!
You haven’t owned a hunting dog over 40 pounds!
You can hold gently with a hand across the chest
@@naomioshea3228the restrain recall encourages the dog to chase the handler. You want to build excitement for the game and that is hard to do with a sit stay
