- Japanese Akita dogs shed their fur twice a year, which is called “seasonal shedding” and is due to the change of temperature. Akitas typically lose their winter coats in the spring, when it is replaced by a shorter and lighter coat for summer. In the fall, this cycle is reversed, and the summer coat is shed to make room for a thicker and warmer coat for winter.
In this video you can see Yuki’s seasonal grooming routine of us brushing out all of his old summer fur to make room for the warm and cozy winter fur and him trying out his new pet pool. After making him look presentable, he’s meeting one of his fans and possibly future prodigy, who is only 4 months old to learn from Yuki’s experience as a successful actor.

Nearly every day atm. Long coated Akita switching from summer to winter fur. Love this breed
If I ever have children and the time for it I would definitely go for an Akita or American Akita. I love everything about them.

I absolutely adore this breed. We got Aiko a year ago and it was the best thing we ever did. She is a very loyal and loving dog.
How is she when meeting new dogs? My Japanese Akita Dexter is unpredictable, sometimes he is friendly and sometimes he shows aggression! I don’t know if that is just my Dexter or others are the same.

Stunning Akita. Is that a furminator? My breeder told me to never use a furminator on an Akita because it can rip out/damange their hair.
we used it very lightly with almost no pressure. it just glided through his fur :)
Since i got my akita he has had a really long fur, not like a typical akita Japanese. What do I do about this or is this normal??

Yes, we were using the Furminator 😊
D: I've read that the furminator is really bad for double coated dogs. I only use a normal slicker brush and undercoat rake with my akita..

we're from Germany, so I can't help you with that, sorry :(
But maybe try googling "Akita breeder Texas" or something similar, you might get lucky 🍀
