I think it would have been cool if Edgar’s intentions and actions changed depending on John’s honor. For example:
High honor: Edgar is widely condemned by the public for killing John, a known Good Samaritan from New Austin to Mexico. Mounting public pressure would later influence his suspension and eventual resignation in 1914.
Effect on gameplay: fewer enemies in the final mission.
Neutral honor: John is neither idolized, nor vilified. Thus, his death and Edgar’s conspiracy go unnoticed.
Effect on gameplay: standard number of enemies
Low honor: John Marston is considered a ruthless monster by the public. Edgar becomes something of a heroic antagonist and is highly praised after killing John to protect the people. Even after his retirement in 1914, Edgar would still be remembered for his role in killing John.
Effect on gameplay: large number of enemies with high-power, semi-auto weapons.

The mission that set this game apart from anything else. It gave us the ending we wanted and deserved.
I dont know, i was satisfied with killing Steve Haines and Devon Weston in GTAV
There was satisfaction in that, but I felt it was more a comedic satisfaction. This ending felt more fulfilling despite how sad it was.
Tbh this series is deeper and the last mission felt like it was worth it when Jack killed Edgar
EA would literally have charged €5 for the Jack mission.
Except John, Abigail, and Uncle are still dead, and now Jack's an outlaw by killing Ross, the last thing they wanted.

You can hear the anger in Jack's voice. He was out for blood at this point.
He did a pretty good job hiding it until he met Ross. Pretty smart on his part, being able to play it cool til the last moment.
@@JyggaIag He even apologized to that filthy fucker for startling him, and challenged him to a duel instead of shooting him in the back of the head. A true gentleman.
@The Undiscovered Country When someone seeks revenge they occasionally want to stare into the eyes of the person that wronged them. Jack wanted the same thing for Ross, to understand the consequences of his actions. Jack planned this like that, most likely. He wanted to make Ross pay for what he did, and understand how the child who he held as collateral of sorts, was finally enacting his revenge.

@@JyggaIag Yes he was frighteningly cold and all about the business. Wasn’t going to let anything slip that might raise a hint of suspicion. He just seemed like a guy who wanted to deliver a message.
The saddest thing about the end of this mission is that Jack now has no one, he's all alone. His entire family is dead, he has no friends, or any trusted stranger. He just ran into the sunset never to be heard from again. Whether he would reunite with a former van der linde gang member is unknown and never mentioned. The very thought of being alone like that is scary and depressing.
What if Jack will reunite with rather Sadie or Charles and then they will work together like Arthur and John.
What if he started his own family Jack is only 19 or 20

That'll fit with my headcanon. After avenging his family, Jack wanders the world for a short while, touring towns, hunting, for wild game as well as some treasure and helping some strangers. After his adventures end, he settles back down in Beecher's Hope and begins writing a story based on the life of his father and Dutch's Gang: Red Dead. By: J. Marston.
I like to think along the lines of another theory where he served in WW1 and avoided a life of crime, eventually writing that book. I love the time period these games take place in because it's sort of connected to GTA. Such a compelling interpretation of the history of organized crime and the end of the Wild West.

Remember My Family. It has two meanings now. Both Jacks parents but also Dutch's gang. Both of which Ross helped to destroy. In the end the last member of it came to him. That little boy he met by the river.
In the end Dutch's gang had the last laugh.

There’s some Easter eggs that suggest Jack gave up the life of crime and became a writer in the end. Technically they aren’t canon but we’ll never know what happens to jack unless they make a sequel to red dead redemption

I never understood how the duels worked. I was just randomly smashing all the buttons and mostly I won.
TheVangbal you can do anything in duel , just dont miss . If you are john marston , and if you shoot at someone's hand , he will disarmed and you got a bunch of fame (kinda like a bonus i think ) . And the next trick , if you shoot at his hat , the hat will fall of and the enemy will be count lose

Shrn the aim is white then shoot cuz that means better aim and fills more of the bar
1. the earlier you pulled your gun, the less accurate your shots would be, but if you pulled your gun too late then the enemy could shoot you first
2. when you're drawn, hover the marker over whichever part of their body you want shot
3. the reticule shrinks and grows steadily, indicating how accurate the shot will be, try and confirm your shot when the reticule is at its smallest because that will make your shot more accurate
4. the enemy is pulling off his own shots, if he gets his accuracy bar (pictured on the right) to max before you, he wins the duel
5. depending on how pinpoint the shot is, one clean shot would be more deadly than six inaccurate ones
I always shot the gun out of their hand for the extra honor points but Edgar Ross is immune to that trick, you're forced to kill him. also the dueling in rdr2 is lame compared to rdr1, drawing first is literally all that matters in rdr2 and takes no skill
This ending wraps up the story of the Red Dead Redemption story from 2 to 1. Jack Marston is the last of the Vander Lin Gang and to do something like this knew that he still had Johns blood in him to kill Edgar Ross. Arthur saved John, John saved his family from the law, Jack ended it all by killing the last man who decided that getting medals was more important than keeping is word. Greatest Rockstar Games story ever!

Such a good mission. It sucks how some say that it was too simple and easy to be a final mission, I think it's fine the way it is. I just find it cool how Rockstar actually allowed us to get revenge and it's even better that Jack is the one to deal it. And it all finishes off with a duel, one of the things that Marston was best at.
That music cue and the title smashing onto the red screen gives me the chills every time.

After that jack went on to write a book about his fathers life which became a bestseller then he fought in world war 1 and not only became a war hero but shot hitler in his left testicle. He then went back to the farm and got a wife and lived happily ever after

There is nothing that suggests he served in the war or did anything that you claim aside from writing the book, which was shown in GTA V.

He was actually wounded in the left thigh in 1916, and again in 1918 by being temporarily blinded by mustard gas. Don’t insult someone’s knowledge until you know what you’re talking about yourself.

That ending in 6:54 makes me think all the Red Dead Saga in Arthur, John and gives me a big goosebumps you can't imagine, this game is a masterpiece.

Here’s my idea. After this mission, Jack heads home. He settles down and writes a book. It’s titled “Red Dead Redemption” (I forgot what the actual book cover was) it is a story about 3 men. One who rides in a Gang, but dies fighting against the horrible mess that that gang became, one who tries to leave the gang, but I’d dragged back into it, and one who experienced all of it, and finished the job of all three. Years later, game developers at R* find the book and decide to make a video game on the second man, and then a game on the first man years later.

6:53- the official end of the old west. One last gunslinging duel, one last score settled. I like to think Jack rides away and heads out east to write books and eventually become a politician.

+SpareBl00d He didn't regret killing Ross, he regretted having to do what his father didn't want him doing: Going down the path of killing men. I think it's a mix of regret and the realization of how hard it is to take a man's life. A realization that killing is not something he will be doing now that Edgar is gone and John is avenged.
***** One thing you need to keep in mind is that's most likely John's gun. Maybe he just looked at the gun because it reminds him of John. I imagine killing his dad's killer with his dad's gun was satisfying and I don't think he'd regret it tbh.

I feel this mission is much more impactful with the events of RDR2. Jack is the last known remnant of the Van Der Linde Gang the one who’s avenged not just John’s death but those other good people wrongfully killed as well.

Anyone noticed the Hat and the Coat Jack wears at the end is similar to the Arthur's Morgan default outfit in Red Dead 2.
John Marston might have forgotten Arthur, but Jack still remembers
John never forgot about Arthur in RDR1.
In RDR2, they explained that the reason why John doesn’t mention Arthur in RDR1 is because it hurts him too much.
He says that he thinks about Arthur all the time, but he really doesn’t like talking about him because it just opens up old wounds that’ll never heal and he’s also honoring his wish by never looking back toward the past, only move forward.
Arthur was John’s closest brother who sacrificed his own life just to save his ass, he’ll NEVER forget him.
I like how this game never sugarcoated any stranger missions but rather told the bitter truth that you would most likely face in the real world. A prime example would be how some of the stranger missions were based on decision making and sometimes it wouldn’t be the best decisions (like the cannibal mission). In all it’s one of the reasons I still love this game

For all the fun I have playing this, it’s still so depressing at the same time.
i love how they make you talk to a man who worked with him his wife and his brother and they all speak highly of him except for his brother who reminds you exactly why you’re out there it’s not a mission that’s required you could literally decided to walk away and leave him alive based on what they’ve told it’s all your choice

Notice how he patiently waited for his vengeance it hint he took care of his mom and Edgar ross would be protected by soldiers and/or agents if jack went after him immediately. Talk about priorities and striking while the iron is hot.

I know it’s just a game, but I really felt morally convicted about the wife and brother. I stood at each for like 10 minutes each and debated what to do. I decided to let them go. I went with the kill bill thing, where it’s like if you’re still angry about this later, you know who I am. I know that was probably wrong, but it went a long those lines. I felt that John and Abigail wouldn’t have wanted me to murder his family. I also liked that I was different from the other players.
I think jack makes for a good protagonist he deserved his revenge

I think “remember my family” is a nod to everyone in RDR2

Rdr 2 was a fan service game
No only to John, Abigail and Uncle. Most of the gang including Arthur wasn't even a thing when they made the game.
Jack clearly doesn’t exactly hold any fond memories of the gang. He is only interested in avenging his family. John, Abigail and Uncle. Dutch, Bill, Javier, and the gang members introduced in Red Dead Redemption 2 (who weren’t even created yet) are entirely irrelevant to Jack. When in battle, Jack can sometimes yell:
- "I'm John Marston's boy!"
- “Remember the name Marston?”
- "My pa knew Landon Ricketts, friend!"
- "Now do you believe I'm a Marston?"
- “I’m a Marston, fool!"
- "I guess I am my father's son."
- “If pa could see me now."
These are but a few comments Jack gives that show his love for his father. To be fair Jack does mention the gang in some lines.
- "I grew up with gunslingers, partner!"
However, he doesn’t mention the gang nearly as much as he does his father.
Before killing Edgar Ross, Jack states:
“My name is Jack Marston. You knew my father.”
This is very different to saying:
“My name is Jack Marston. You may have heard of the Van Der Linde gang”
From the evidence provided, I think we can conclude that Jack had no real connection to the Van Der Linde gang, and that the gang was not family to him. His real family was John, Abigail and Uncle. His life fell apart after they died, not after the fall of the gang.
@@dryocampa We know that. Chronologically speaking though, the person is probably right. Jack killed Agent Ross who killed his father. Years later, Rockstar still put Ross in the story whom was hunting down the Van Der Linde Gang along with Agent Milton. Same Agent Milton who killed Mac Callander and Hosea (who Jack was fond of)
Obviously, this game come out before RDR2 despite it being set after the events of RDR2 but Rockstar also set the story of RDR2 around the story of RDR, it all comes full circle despite it being a obvious retcon.
I like how Jack's appearance is somehow resembles Dutch's gang (hat is John's, jacket is Arthur and bandana is Dutch). I know they didn't intend it since RDR2 wasn't thought much about yet when the game released but I like to think Jack got a bit of inspiration from his foggy memories of the gang.

Jack decided to join the army to fight in WW1 against the Germany, Bulgaria, Austria-Hungary, & the Ottoman Empire to prove himself by making use of his gunslinger skills

I agree. Everything that was in RDR 2", all the gang advice, help from Arthur, Sadie, Charles and other kind heroes, for the sake of a calm and happy life - everything was in vain. Born to outlaws - outlaw for life. To the end.
3 years later Jack joined the fight in world war one, were he won the medal of honour. At least that's how i imagined how his life would of been after RDR. That would be pretty cool

He became a writer, in GTA V you can find a book written by him

After passing RDR2, I had a feeling that everything was in vain. And the passage of the game itself. All the strength of friends from the past, their advice and help - it was all in vain. A huge chain of events closed in a loop after 15 or even more years. When I was 9 years old, I thought this ending was the best and I was happy, but now it's the saddest for me. And it's brilliant.
Wonder if Jack would've joined a gang like John did before him now that he's alone and Ross dead? That would be a DLC I'd pay for to find out.
We know he wrote a book afterwards titled "Red Dead."

Shaggy 12001 That is true, but it does seem likely that Jack ended up writing a book after the game's events considering he was into reading books, often responds with people's dialogue by saying "I read about that in a book", and even suggested to his father that he will one day write a book about him.

Just so you know, Jack's actor in this game said that cannonically Jack killed Edgar's wife and brother. To make sure nobody would come after him, he left no one alive so Edgar would feel the same loss he did.

Basically the only characters who knew John was working with the government was Bonnie and her father, and the Marshel, either way only Bonnie was the only character who saw Edgar Ross.
The reason he's so impatient with horses is a mix of grief and survivors guilt. Jack likely believes if his horse had been faster they could have gotten back to the farm and saved John. Now we all know their was nothing Jack could have done to save John, but his grief ridden mind won't let him accept that. Furthermore only a few weeks before Johns death he was almost mauled to death by a grizzly bear because his horse wasn't fast enough to escape it (in truth no horse would have been fast enough to escape it because Grizzlies have a top speed of 35 mlp) In Jack's mind bad things happen because of slow horses.

Enjoyed this video. I first played through the campaign in 2014 and did it after about a month. I ended up quitting the game. I sold that 360 and stupidly didn't know to use Cloud saving to keep my progress. So when I wanted to play it again and bought a new 360, I didn't have my save file. When I quit the game I didn't even know about this mission so I enjoyed watching it. Thanks for uploading! Getting back into games and achievements by going for 100% in GTA V and this game on the XB1
Ross enjoyed his Duck Hunting, while he still could.
I always thought Edgar Ross' death was really unsatisfying... He was killed too easily and too quickly. He should've been made to suffer and be shown that Jack got the best of him before he died. It should've been slow and painful and they should have had a verbal standoff as he was injured before Jack delivered the final blow, much like the Mafia boss at the end of GTA 4.

I feel like red dead redemption dosen't deserve a part 3 because most of the characters already died even john marston but if they are going to make a sequel about jack marston's story with new characters and setting then I'm ok with it

@@fernandom.varela1109 It'd be cool, but pretty boring and cliché. I think the franchise is fine as it is right now. It really doesn't need another game. There aren't any more stories left to be told, the endings are pretty straight forward. Those agents were just following orders, it's Ross who technically killed John. Charles went to Canada, Sadie went to South America, they both probably settled down and lived a family life like John did. I also like to think that Jack also put aside his gun for good, to not get into the same criminal life as his father. Maybe he took part in WW1, maybe he died there, maybe he survived, maybe he became a writer just like he always wanted. There's a book in GTAV that's referencing Red Dead, written by J. Marston. Could be Jack, writing about the Van Der Linde gang.
I think it's fine as it is. The west was dying and if it continues, it would defeat the purpose of theme in RD. I would like another RD game myself but with new characters.
First time I played the game, I was downright bloodthirsty in the end. I killed the agent in Blackwater with my knife. Ross's wife met the wrong end of my sawn-off. His brother took two to the chest. And Edgar Ross himself, of course was made into swiss cheese.
