I’m a 70 year old lady. I found this your parenting beautiful, you reminded me of my dad who use to take me to work as a builder and explained want he wanted me to do. I lost him in my late teens, but I grew into a very strong independent person where, I could do most handy work around the house for myself. Your daughter will know how to do those odd jobs by herself, or get frustrated watching a guy doing a very bad job and she will end up taking over the project herself. Enjoy the special moments with her because she will learn so much from you. God bless your family. 😅
Very good job Dad, and daughter.Easy job, she will be a great gardener when she gets older. 🙂 Next time she’s using a drill you need to make sure her hair is tied back good. Don’t need it getting wrapped around the drill as it’s working.
This one is nice and simple. We made another video where we used a bamboo fountain which is something you could add to this later if you want. amzn.to/3Uu3X2w
Have also add your ability to be yourself, I am thinking if we were ever to meet, you would be the same guy in person. Your awesome with your children, so you probably are that way with there mom. You had no idea that this video was more the project. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was freaking out watching her hair. I was so worried it was going to wrap around the drill. Please make sure to pull her hair back before using tools. I did love the video!
I was worried about her hair also! But this was a very nice and easy-to-follow video. I bought a very inexpensive fountain a week ago, and it quit on me day before yesterday. So I think I would like to try making one myself.
This video should be under a different category: "Teaching Your Child Lifeskills, Self-confidence, and Creating Parent/child Memories." What a wonderful video.
Thank you Jonh! We actually simply set it on top of the 5 gallon bucket a day it stays up on its own. We didn't have to use the pvc pipe for any support. The metal lathe/mesh is stiff enough to hold the weight of the rocks
I thought I saw something on the sides. Of the container, you set the mesh on. Thank you for replying back. I'm going to Make one With a gallon bucket. I couldn't find the container to put a 5 gallon bucket in it.That was flat at the bottom
@johnbowman2710 a smaller bucket will still work! Also, if you find a large planter that fits a 5 gal bucket, but isn't flat, you could add some sand at the bottom to level it out. The birds will love it!
What a fun video to watch! So nice to see such a caring/patient daddy. I wish every child was so lucky, our world would be a better place if more parents could spend time with their children and make them feel valued. I can’t wait to make this fountain!
Wow that's such a nice comment. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! 😃 let us know if you run into any issues or have any questions along the way.
Love your patience with your daughter ❤, plus show her how to do these things with tools, plus she will be able to show it off and say "I did That" Great Job!!!!!!! 👍
What a great dad you are! You guided your daughter in everything she needed to do. She will become one great DIY'ER when she grows up. God bless your family.
It is precious to me that you let your daughter learn how to use the tools and have the confidence to do these things. Teaching her that she can create, and she is competent to fix things as she needs to when she gets older. It’s a very valuable lesson to teach little girls. I am 67 years old and my dad loved me with all his heart, but he never let me touch even a screwdriver. I just wasn’t something girls could do when I was young.
😍 Thank you so much Kathy! That's such a nice thing to say. I really hope my kids will feel comfortable using tools so they can do routine maintenance on their homes and fix small things around the house
@@TheChungKids you are very welcome. The funny thing is I am the fixer in my house. My husband is not interested in any kind of tool or household repair. So I am the one that hangs the ceiling fans or fixes the broken toilets or when, I had a home rather than a condo, I would get on that roof and patch any leaks. I’ve repaired my fence and mowed my lawn. And fixed my lawn mowers. Etc. etc. so sorry Dad I had to learn on my own, but yes, little girls can be very competent. And whether you teach your boys or your girls, it’s a wonderful thing to share with your children.
Wonderful video! I’m 67 and all my best memories are of my Dad doing everything with me! This reminds me of all my treasured memories. What you’re doing is outstanding…. And this solar is fantastic. I’m going to get it and run it in my flower plant window in the house.
I love this so much! So nice to watch you working so patiently with your daughter. Great parenting. I can tell you're a great dad and you have a great daughter. Inspires me to do this with my kids
That's such a nice comment. I really enjoy doing projects with my kiddos so I'm just trying to take advantage of this time before they're adults. They grow too quickly!
Very cool you two! I made something similar with my kiddos but they're a little too young to understand that they can't keep taking all the rocks out to count them. 😅
Lovely fountain! It’s nice to know each step, and the cost of materials! Also thrilled to see this young girl confidently using power tools-good job Dad! One thing that made me nervous though is her hair near the drill. I have long hair and have to remember to put it up when painting or using a drill. Question: you mentioned birds love it-are the smaller birds able to negotiate the rocks? Thank you! New subscriber.
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing! You're right, I didn't think about her hair. It would've been a nightmare if it got tangled in the drill 😬. Your comment made her smile. The birds don't seem to have any issues negotiating the rocks. We've seen mourning dove, black phoebe, white-crowned sparrow, and a ton of humming birds hanging around the fountain.
This is awesome! Thank you for sharing how to do this. It’s going to be my next garden project with my kids. This is so much more affordable than the fountains I see for sale at my local nurseries. We can’t wait to bird watch. ☺
Thanks for the nice comment! Yes, it's a great project to do with the kiddos and it will definitely attract the birds. Let us know if you run into any issues or have questions along the way!
Wow!! Great Video I would not have known had you not shown us you didn’t fill the Planter up with Rocks. Your technique was very useful. Your Daughter did an Amazing job!!!
Great Video 👌 Thanks The only thing I would add is SAFETY- The Girls Hair was getting close to the drill, would recommend pinning hair back or use hair net😊 Great job Dad
Pro tip - check the fountain before the rocks!!great project. Those big pots from Costco made it into a fountain in my yard too!! I’ve made theee fountains using a similar method. Looks great!! Also you can run a drip hose from your system into the bucket to help top off the water. It will evaporate faster but it helps.
You are a great Dad! Very much enjoyed this video. I appreciated your detail and instructions as well. Your instructions were detailed without being pushy, definitely a great teacher! Thanks for the tips, as I'm about to make one of these myself and will follow your method. Your daughter is going to learn so much from you over the years!
Honestly I have seen other videos so called easy where you need a PhD this is amazing so simple so easy very beautiful and great your little daughter is getting involved minds me of helping my own dad
I will be building a couple myself. Love that you allowed your daughter to do the work. Please have her tie her hair back when using power tools. I cringed when her hair dangled by the drill tip.
This DIY was so great from beginning to end. Not only was a beautiful fountain made, but a young lady spent quality time with her father and learned something. Great video - great Dad❤
Same as a lot of other comments - as a father it is heart warming to see you include your lovely daughter in the process ! And she will learn so much from being included and remember it for the rest of her life and also learn so much from the experience - most of all to not be afraid of trying things and that she CAN do it too - something that will definitely benefit her throughout her life. Plus she is outside in nature , sunlight and fresh air - not inside staring at a screen looking at toxic content that causes so many mental health issues for kids these days and teaches them all the wrong things about life ! Full marks Dad ! I wish you and your family well from South Australia ! This truly made my day - a welcome relief from politics, war, stupidity that we are buried under every day !
How sweet. You teaching her things ….so wonderful to see. And she is very interested and learning new things. Good to see a parent teaching his child. Your voice and calm is easy to listen to …hugs and enjoy!!
Great project! I have the same pot and may do this with it. It seems like there will be significant water loss around the bucket. I may add some plastic around the perimeter of the bucket to funnel water into it. Thanks for the video!
Hi Dack! As long as you use the right spray pattern, we don't lose too much water..unless it's windy. Also, you could use this bamboo piece like we did in another video and it takes it to the next level lol amzn.to/3Ukm2i4
Just found this vid. thanks for the great tutorial, and also gotta echo other comments … you’re a great dad , esp lett8ng your daughter use power tools under supervision. A+++ parenting!
That is so neat! I’m gonna do one of those, too, but I plan on adding a short ceramic bowl to catch the water, so that the birds can bathe in the ceramic bowl, and still be able to drink from the water flow! Thanks for posting! It’s great that you are teaching the child how to use power tools at a young age! Kudos, to you, young man!
I love that this is clearly not the first time your daughter used that drill. And you were so kind and treated her with absolute confidence that she’s competent to do the task. ❤ Do you understand how the world will change with fathers raising children this way? 😍🥰
This is AWESOME! I've been playing around with making a recirculating bird bath with these panels. I've made two that sort of work but I was missing the mesh idea. Definitely making version three tomorrow based on your design here. I even have that same Costco planter lol. So awesome. Such a clean look too. Well done!
So glad this was helpful! Thanks for the kind words. The other idea was to cut a piece of wood, drill holes, then coat with flex seal, but the mesh was a lot easier.
@@TheChungKids they may not like it in the teenage years as peers become a greater influence and then if the connection was enjoyable which it seems it is they will enjoy helping as a late teenager or in their 20's. but also you can force them. lol. call it family time.
I’m happy to see a young woman gaining confidence with power tools. There’s something important you need to know. Her hair needs to be tied so it doesn’t fall in front of her. Getting hair caught in a tool is not fun and can be painful. As well as wearing safety glasses. I speak from experience. No one wants to spend hours in the ER having metal scraped out of their eye.
Thank you, I cringed when I watched the video. We'll have to tie it in a bunch instead of a ponytail. I can't believe how quickly her hair grew. So glad she didn't get hurt. Lesson learned😬
Think outside the box. You should make it easier to service your pump. By placing the pump in the bottom. First you should place the access holes for the pump electric wire higher. So your water won't accidentally drain. Second you should possibly somehow make yourself a center access panel in the wire mesh...in order to clean or change the pump filter pads. You could also stabilize the spray tube using a very narrow piece of PVC tubing or large straw.
Thanks for the tip! We actually drilled the hole high on the 5 gallon bucket for the wire, but low on the outer pot to keep the wire hidden. Remember, with this design, there is no overflow so having the hole low on the outer pot poses no issue. You're right on accessing the pump does take 1-2 minutes since I have to remove the pump, but the good thing is this pump is super reliable. We made our other water feature over 1 year ago and never had to service it 😃 Love the tips and suggestions everyone!
Hey Patrick , great advice - thank you for your contribution which helps everyone watching this video and wishing to emulate - all of us with varying skill levels and experience. It also makes it a collaborative ‘community’ experience- which is sadly lacking these days - everyone benefits. 🙂🙂🙂
Hi, good question. With the lower spray pattern we ended up using at the end of the video, all of the water stays inside of the 5 gal bucket. We refill it about once a week due to evaporation, but no loss due to 'spillage'
Looks very nice. I think I would put the outer pot hole higher and lots of holes around the bottom of the bucket so that the overspray doesn't end up in the outer pot, draining out through the wire hole.
That could work too, but we just wanted the wire as hidden as possible. Remember, the entire solar pump/wire etc is submersible and waterproof. We leave ours our in the rain too and haven't had any issues. 😁
Can you ADD to this video so we can HEAR the SOUND of the NEW water fountain ONLY. Without the sound of the bamboo fountain in the background. That was great, I love the fact you're working with your daughter and she was learning something new challenging and not to be afraid of working with power tools. I can't tell you how much that is going to be a valuable lesson to her. Trust me, my father was much like you and I thank him everyday for that - RIP Daddy. It has made me try things on my own, that I thought we're not too complicated, too dangerous, or out of my wheelhouse, and thanks to TH-cam VIDEOS doable. I have NOT had to hire someone to do it for me, not only SAVING ME $$$, but giving me a sense of pride, accomplishment, and empowerment. ❤😊
Thank you so much for the encouragement, Paula! We started doing DIYs when we moved to our home to save $$ and so we just invested in some tools instead. I've been showing my kids how to do maintenance around the house and on our vehicles so that they can hopefully do more on their own and maybe use money that they save for investing early on. Also, I'll try and figure out how I can capture the sound of just this water feater and make it available for you to hear sometime this week.
@paulajones4037 I just made a short for you comparing the two sounds. I think the bamboo one is slightly louder in person, but you can still hear the one without bamboo especially when the 5 gal bucket isn't full. th-cam.com/users/shorts5HsyQDPwe60?feature=share
I could see this video going viral. Great job guys! I want to do this but I want to do with a mister. That would be so cool in my opinion, especially if you have plants around or even if you're outside I do a lot of misting and it cools the temperature alot, or at least it does in my humid area in Georgia.
Sorry this was suppose to go on Trumps video, I can feel it in the air song. I'm making that fountain I have all my supplies!!!! You little girl is so adorable!
@@TheChungKids ok! It will be a little bit I have Spring clean up going on. I was really suprised how big the solar panel was. I have bought other fountains and the solar panels were small. Anyway I look forward to making it! You made it look so easy even a child can do it (lol). I'm a old girl 66 I think I can do it all by myself. I know I can! You gave really good instructions!!!😊
I love this! I made a smaller version but used a plastic charger and used a glue gun to burn 4 holes in the charger . However it worked great except i am using a cement pedestal to put my bucket of water un which is an octagin shape so water gets in around the sides when it rains. Sad face. I should just make yours and make the pedstal a dry bird bath. I dont want any standing water because if mosquitoes. Just nervous i cant cut the screen. But i love your video and you are a great loving father!!!!
@Lisa, thanks for you nice comment! If you don't have a grinder, you could try using tin snips, which work well, but will take longer. We've been getting a lot more mosquitoes in our area than usual this season 😔
Love the "teaching daughter" aspect, but please remember... "Safety" first!! Tie hair and wear Safety glasses. I worked with small assembly line belt yrs ago and saw a workers hair get caught.

I love that this is clearly not the first time your daughter used that drill. And you were so kind and treated her with absolute confidence that she’s competent to do the task. ❤ Do you understand how the world will change with fathers raising children this way? 😍🥰
😍🙏 you're so kind! Thank you so much!
Just beautiful to see you being such a fun dad. The fountain looks great
Thank you so much!
Cool idea.
Thanks.
Fun project
Good job to your daughter using the tools and learning..😊
Thank you for the kind words! 🙏
What a good helper she was and what a great dad you are!
Thank you!! 😃
Such a fun project to let your girl help with! Good little helper she is there! 👍😊
She sure is! Thank you!
Fantastic video…love that you’re teaching your daughter…well done!!!
Thanks Sam!! 🙏
Great job baby girl!!! Helping Dad how awesome is that♥️♥️♥️♥️
Sloan says thank you! 😊
Great going Dad! Although I about freaked when har hair was dangling at that drill
Thanks! And yes, it was a close one 😬
She such a great helper, ,. Makes me miss my daughter's when they were around her age n liked to do projects with me. 😢 great job guys
Souky Phetsinor, I find myself looking back at photos and videos of when they were babies and they really grow up so fast. Thank you for watching!!
made mine today I’m happy thank u
Awesome! You'll get a lot of birds stopping by if you don't already 😃
that was awesome. My dad would have been screaming. attachment theory is real!
Thank you so much!! Hope my kids are willing to continue projects with me as they get older 🙏
@@TheChungKids they may not like it in the teenage years as peers become a greater influence and then if the connection was enjoyable which it seems it is they will enjoy helping as a late teenager or in their 20's. but also you can force them. lol. call it family time.
@@CousinPatTherapy 😆
I love it too!!❤
Beautful family time and wonderful project to share with families ,
Thank you, it was a lot of fun!
So sweet and awesomeness!
Thank you!
Beautiful & simple! Great little helper you have there. I do suggest she wear safety glasses when drilling, tho!
Thank you, and yes I cringed when I watched the video. Thankfully she didn't get hurt. Lesson learned 😬
Too cool! What a great memory to create with your daughter.
Thanks Aaron!!
You are a awesome Dad!!! Thank you
Thank you 😍
That was so awesome watching you both create that beautiful fountain. I had to subscribe and look forward to your content. Blessings.
Thank you so much Jacqueline, we really appreciate you!
Nice, a memory for you and your daughter...quality time with dad
Thanks Steve! I'm so thankful for my kiddos
looks great and thanks for the great step by step... has much water sprayed outside of the bucket and accumulated in the planter ?
Hi, good question. With the lower spray pattern we ended up using at the end of the video, all of the water stays inside of the 5 gal bucket. We refill it about once a week due to evaporation, but no loss due to 'spillage'
So cute, excited for when my daughter of age to participate!
They grow so fast. I'm so thankful for them. Kids are just the best helpers
that is really cool, i think i'm going to give this a try in my garden!
@natesmom thank you! Give it a try, it's a nice addition to any yard and attracts the birds 😀
Great job!! Love your little assistant😊
Thank you Pam!

Very nice !! Love that your doing it with your daughter 🥰 definitely want to try and make one for my front step !! Thanks for sharing ❤
Thank you! Let us know if you have any questions or run into any issues
I bought the pump you recommended because of the disconnect feature. Like it too. Thank you
It's nice because you can hide the cord this way 😉
I could see this video going viral. Great job guys! I want to do this but I want to do with a mister. That would be so cool in my opinion, especially if you have plants around or even if you're outside I do a lot of misting and it cools the temperature alot, or at least it does in my humid area in Georgia.
Thanks Randy, that's so nice of you! Also, using a mister would be a great idea. I never would have thought of that!
You two make a great team!😊
Thank you so much!!
Sorry this was suppose to go on Trumps video, I can feel it in the air song. I'm making that fountain I have all my supplies!!!! You little girl is so adorable!
Thank you 😀 let us know how it turns out!
Thank you! Yes, we learned our lesson after watching this video. So thankful she didn't get hurt 🙏
Great job . Can’t wait to try this. Thank you
Thanks for watching Susan!
Awesome video! Great teamwork! I hope to do this with my kids!
Thank you! It's a great fun project so I hope your kids enjoy it too!
Awesome team work I love your involvement with your princess
Thank you Margie!
Love it! Fairly simple & beautiful ❤
@sew thank you!!

I’m going to make this for our bee garden!🐝🐝
We sure do get a lot of birds and bees in our yard and we're so thankful
That's Cool, good job guys
Thanks! Anything to attract the 🐦 & 🐝
Nice thanks for sharing. I will be building one .
Thank you! Let us know if you have any questions or run into any issues.
Her hair could have been a disaster! Loose strands can get tangled with equipment. I really enjoyed her learning with her dad.
Yes! I cringed when I watched the video. Thankfully, she didn't get hurt. Lesson learned 😬
