  • We picked up a Northwest 41 dragline and hauled it back to the shop. This is something that I always wanted to run and should make for some cool videos to come.

Good on you Clinton for filming the struggle. In the late 60s one Monday morning, my Father (the Forman) came up to me and said follow me. He walked into the back of the shipyard and walked me up to an old Link belt speeder cable crane, and said "Learn to start it, then learn how to operate it because were buying a Marine travel lift and we need a crane to put it together". Then he walked back into the shipyard and left me there. I think I have an idea of how you felt unloading the Northwest crane! I wish I could recall more information about the link belt but I'm too old and there isn't anyone left to ask.

@@tomrogers9467 these memories are all we have, unless we took a camera of course. It's what gives us our interest I guess. Young lads and big noisy machines. Mens work. Thank you for sharing your memories Tom. My memories were of class 33 and 47 freight trains when as a paperboy 11 years old in the UK. Loved the Sulzer engine sound. It was felt before it was heard. The particular track is long since gone and as now is a cycle way. Such is most old railway cuttings in the UK.

When I was growing up we lived next to a construction company and just behind our house was a rock crusher and screening plant and every year the company would bring a very large Lorain crane with a clamshell bucket to Clean out the settling pond when ever they moved the crane from job to job the operator would ride in the crane to swing the house and boom to make it around the sharp curves and turns great videos as always keep it up in time you will become proficient God Bless

Loving Company in N.C. they are still around and still have a few of them in their yard, try reaching out to them. Otherwise, there should still be copies in the archives of the US Army Corp of Engineers, as they had those type of cranes in use untill the early 90's. Northwest Engineering Co., an industrial giant in the Green Bay manufacturing market especially during the 1930s through the 1960s.
The first crane was released in early 1921 with a 45-foot boom and a shovel of one and one-quarter cubic yards. In its final years, that shovel had increased to five to 10 cubic yards.
The 82 years of production saw 28,011 machines delivered before operations were closed down in 1990.

Watching this brings back alot of memories of my 41!!! Running Draglines is a art and it's fun!!! The best words of advice I can give you is if you get aggravated with it walk away for awhile then come back and try again that's how I learned to run them don't run em aggravated

I ran a Ruston Bucyrus 14RB dragline on our farm in southern Australia, cleaning irrigation channels and drains. If I didn't stop for a couple of minutes every half hour, the cables would start tangling. Fun to operate though.

I love Kevin’s dry humor….. “looks like it’s got enough gears in there to chew you up pretty good if you screw up”.😁

Not exactly a spacious cab for the operator . Clinton fills it up pretty good indeed .

A sheriff over here in my state wanted to give me a ticket for driving under the speed limit, while I was chasing the owner of the pickup truck and 70 ton terex crane, 4 axles
