@@mathvignon Personally, I'm not sure it's worth the money to upgrade, my numbers with the same shafts were about the same but with the standard True Temper 115 mid shafts they spun a lot more and went shorter than the True Temper S300 in the 21s. I ended up with Nippon Modus 115 which helped with the spin. I wish I had just upgraded the shafts on the previous irons.
After trying out a demo club, I snagged a minty mint used set of D9 Forged with graphite shafts for shirt buttons. They look, feel and play great, and in a similar vein, my grandson just grew out of his last set of US Kids clubs, and at the advice of his club pro I picked up a set of ladies graphite shafted D9’s for him, plus Wilson LP driver, 5w and 5h once again for no money. These are great clubs at sensible prices, especially for my grandson who’s growing like a weed. I know I’ll get most of my money back when it’s time to move him up. I think Wilson kit is quietly cool. 😎
I’d say that you made a smart move in choosing Wilson. They sell their clubs at a price point that is much more reasonable to more people and the main reason that you don’t hear more about Wilson is because they have decided to market their clubs differently than the big brands that everyone hears about. A lot of the popular big brands usually have a whole stable of professionals pushing their brand whereas the only professional that I’ve seen promoting Wilson is Padraig Harrington who is now spending most of his playing time on the Champions Tour. Not quite the same cachet that the PGA Tour has. Marketing is such a huge part of selling golf clubs and those that do it the best must have massive budgets to do so. You know who ends up paying for those massive budgets I hope.
The Greatest underrated golf club of all time! Have played these clubs for 2 years now! Just broke out my new 2024 editions and are flushing them! I can't recommend these highly enough! never enjoyed playing the game as much as I am now and I've been playing 63 years and i' am 69. Look forward to breaking my age with regularity, hopefully!!🏌I enjoyed your review, people need to be educated!! Thanks!!
Alex, here are my last sets of irons, started playing golf more than 4 times a year in 2016 when I bought Ping i500 switched to the Staff D7 Forged (loved them) then switched to the Mizuno JPX 923 Tours for more consistency. I am now playing the WS CBs. They feel better than the Mizunos and have much more consistency and better forgiveness. These are the best irons I have ever played. Something you said puzzled me "they are stronger lofted". The 7 iron is 34 degrees and PW is 46. I don't know any modern irons that are weaker lofted than these. These are modern-traditional lofts.
I play Mizuno MP-33’s but I have a set of 1987 Wilson Staff blades that are just pure beauty! They are thinner and harder to hit than my Mizuno MP-33’s so I don’t play them often
We are 3 guys, late 50's early 60's playing for the fun but it got a wee bit serious and competitive recently. Research done the trick for me and Wilson was my choice, Launch Pads and the amazing Utility Iron, don't really need a driver but the Dynapower is ordered. Now scoring between 5-7 over per round. Can't promote Wilson enough for game improvement clubs. Great video.
Just bought myself a combo set of the latest Wilson irons as well as three wedges. I’ve been a Titleist player most of my playing life and played three courses in North Wales last week using the clubs for the first time. I have to say they are absolutely awesome. Look great behind the ball and the feedback through the hands is second to none. There’s still a negative perception toward Wilson due to their box-set years and they’re obviously not paying the multi million dollar player deals. Otherwise they’d be in a lot more bags
I am getting fitted for the Wilson Staff CB at the end of the month. I tested the 7-iron during a round and was totally in love with it. At the moment I am playing the JPX 921 and I am losing a few yards, but with the mid and short irons I am getting the spin to stop the ball on the green much easier.
Wilson is and always has been CLASS in irons. While my FG17s aren’t my first-string set (MP37s) I do love how they play and feel. Love Wilson as a brand and the legacy. Maybe they took a PR hit because of the PRO-staff line (store line) which are junk (pro-staff is their tip top in tennis though) and perhaps with the middle line deep red series… not sure. Also, the Haig-Ultras were made by Wilson. I have a set of those on my wall, leather grips and all, those babies are the Cadillac of irons (think- the top level package in whatever car you like) in the day, before the branding changed to junior’s clubs.
Wilson were THE irons many years ago with a history second to non. Wish more places had these irons in the U.K Also the product cycle time with Wilson is quite respectable unlike the 18-24 month of the "larger" manufactures. On a slightly different note there balls are up with other companies and better than some.
I’m 67 years of age and I can remember when golf clubs didn’t have all the different categories of clubs like they do now. There was usually one set of irons that was geared towards better players and another that was a game improvement design or a cavity back design for those with mid to high handicap’s that needed some help with off centre strikes. Good players like the pros were not known to use cavity back irons because when they played a shot they wanted to get the feedback they would get from their muscle back irons that were usually forged. Wilson Staff irons were very popular with the best players even at the club level because they were making some of the best forgings before the brands from Japan were discovered to be very good. As far as I know there was no Mizuno or Miura when I was a teenager back in the 70’s even though they could very well have been in business back then but the marketing wasn’t as ramped up as it is now so golfers in North America didn’t hear about these now well known brands. Wilson was one of the big brands and to a lesser extent MacGregor was quite well known too. I think that MacGregor became as well known as it was in that the Golden Bear aka Jack Nicklaus played MacGregor irons for quite awhile and he was in my opinion the best player in the game back in the 70’s and most people would probably know that the best advertising you can get is when the games best player is playing the brand of clubs that you make. It’s no coincidence that Nike benefited immensely from having Tiger Woods playing their irons even though it’s entirely possible that there were better irons that he could have played if you take the money paid to him out of the equation for playing Nike irons. If the average golfer would forego all the marketing hoopla and just go and be fitted by a professional club fitter they would be better off than believing most everything the manufacturers are trying to sell to them. The marketing is a giant quagmire that only professionals should be worried about whether they are playing the best clubs for them and the rest of us would be well served by buying from a reputable manufacturer at a price point that we can afford. Just ask any golf widow if that makes any sense…..lol.
@@richardwestmoreland4796 You are perfectly correct Ricard. I'm a little older than you and blades were the clubs the vast majority of people played. Then we had the emergence of the marketing and sales departments taking precedence. We were and are being sold on average golfers can't play blades they need help so buy deep cavity back irons, got a couple of shots off your handicap then upgrade to a less deep cavity back so it goes on. Marvellous anyone every played the game before. Most "younger" players I talk with have never hit blades because of this fact. Tell people long and often enough then it becomes "reality"
I'm playing those same irons and love them, too. Moderate GI specs, 31° 7-iron, iirc. Set includes a 47° approach wedge and 51° gap wedge, so gapping to the 56° sand wedge works out.
Wilson and cobra are my go to for irons now. I play a set of amp forged that are over 10 years old and they're still more than usable for me. There's no value in the likes of Taylormade, callaway and titleist pricing is nuts. You can get a decent set of second hand irons for few hundred. As long as you get the right shafts that's more important than anything. I had a set of wilson fg tour irons and they were awesome.
i've had the pxg 2011 irons with the stock graphite R for two years and they do feel great but they go too low for an already low ball hitter. i did gain distance and the 5 iron goes 170yds but only 20 ft. off the ground. i bought them only hitting into the fitters net snd screen indoors and didn't understand the numbers i was looking at enuff. next time i would only buy where i can see the actual ball flight out of doors at a range. i also play 3 through 6 ping hybrid and love those. i'm 74 yrs old, been playing for 50 years and a 12 hdcp and live in massachusetts. i enjoy your videos and always get something out of them, thnx.
Spring of 2023 I bought the original PXG irons the 2011 from pitching wedge through 5 iron. They were new and only $99 a club, $600 for a new set of PX g's . They are absolute killer Irons

I play Callaway Epic irons. The first thing I noticed with them was the really high launch, but I was amazed that I actually gained a few yards over my old irons.

I play Wilson d9 irons , Wilson staff utility iron , Wilson staff wedges and a Wilson infinite west loop putter . With the exception of woods and driver I will prob play Wilson for the rest of my playing days .
I bought a full set of 2003-era Deep Red clubs from a guy on an online marketplace as my first bag. I have slowly been buying a second set of clubs piece by piece; dynapower carbon driver and then a 3H; I just purchased an 'open box special' set of Dynapower forged irons and then a closeout special on a pair of the previous gen forged Staff wedges. I need to get a putter and find a 3/5W and a 7W, and I will have a 20 year newer set of Wilson clubs.
I have a set of 62/63 Wilson Staff Dynapowers, with the red Fluid Feel rubber hosel inserts, that I picked up at a play it again in 99 for fun for $18 dollars. Feel was second to none, especially with a Titleist tour balata ball. Still have them.
Wilson’s new forged wedges are also stunning. So were their last model to be fair and I noticed a couple weeks ago PGA superstore is selling their last models forged tour wedges, 2 for $150, which is a great price.
Of all the club's I played the Wilson Fat shaft where the best feeling one. So I do believe that the Wilson irons are so good today and so is the feeling of them as well.
Same. Best iron I've played in over a decade. Can't see these leaving my bag. Curious, do you prefer "our" version of the CB's aesthetics or these? I kinda dig my 2021 set.
@@Joker-yh2xg Really like the look of the new set also, but they look different, not necessarily better. I hit them side by side. If there's a difference, it was imperceptible to me. For that reason I saved some coin and bought the '21 model brand new 2 weeks ago for less than half the cost of the new set. Best deal ever.
I have a set if Cobra F8 one lenght and I really like them, but l had to take a 2 year layoff from golf due to injury and getting back to solid golf has been a struggle. The pro at the club told me I should buy the Wilson Launch Pads. They are big and clunky looking but they are long and forgiving. They are some very fun Irons to hit. You may have already put them to the test, if not please do a video on them (if you havent already)
Maltby TS1-im irons are extremely workable, sleek and beautiful to the eye. Insanely forgiving for the size of blades and easy on the pocket. They are truly something else.
Surely you cant call a 34 degree 7 iron strong, that very traditional, so interesting it gave lower penetrating flight. What i liked they are a perimeter weighted cavity, no fill in , amd no back seamlessly welded on, a retro look great
Currently have a set of Dynapower Forged irons on custom order. Absolutely love the clubs...... but their customer service is really bad. Ordered them on June 12th, got the receipt of the order and charged my card the next day. Haven't heard anything since then. Their site claimed a 5-7 day time frame.
@HowGoodGolf I'm currently playing the JPX 923 hot metal pro's and have been considering changing to these. I got fitted for the 923's 18 months ago as a returning golfer who played as a teenager and I was a 18-20 hcp at the time. I have dropped to 11 hcp so far this season a feel I am on track to break into high single figures. I find the 923's can come off hot and like a flyer sometimes and I'll hit it 10-20 yards further than I expect, this is hurting my game more than the strong lofts and extra distance they give. Do you think these could be a good upgrade option for me? Or what other options should I go try out?
Gaming some Macgregor irons. LOVE them. Most underrated iron brand in my opinion. That being said i also think Wilson is underrated. Great brand. Great irons. Great balls. And I've been super tempted to buy their driver.
Another brand that is an excellent manufacturer of golf clubs that you don’t have to take out a second mortgage on your house for is Tour Edge. Compared to Titleist and Taylormade I suspect that Tour Edge must be considered to be in at least the second tier for what they spend on marketing their clubs. Tour Edge might not have the same big budget for marketing as some others but they certainly aren’t in my opinion making and selling clubs that are inferior in any way.
You need to do more background checking. You said they were a little on the strong lofted side. A standard 7 iron is 34 degrees which is what you said that one was. These are dead on the old players lofts. Not strong at all. All of those lofts were STANDARD.
I've been seeing lots of positive Wilson Staff reviews recently, it seems like they've committed themselves to be in the ballpark of premium brands, but costing a notch lower.
I like your content but a Cavity Back Iron is pretty self explanatory... There is a Cavity in the back of the Iron and a 34 degree 7 Iron is Not a strong loft.
It's not an apples-to-apples comparison, but I picked up a set of the Wilson Forged Dynapower irons. In their category, they are noticeably less expensive and a legitimate rival to any manufacturer. I don't have the talent or technique to utilize a CB or blade, but these 'muscle backs' check many boxes for me.
I for one detest the fact that none of these companies sell a full set if irons any longer. At minimum 3-pw should be offered as they always did in the past. Those that omit the 3, 4, even the 5 are kidding themselves and cannot be taken seriously as a golf supplier .......
Long irons are available if you want them. Right down to 2 iron! The fact they don’t force you to buy them is a good thing, as many players will opt for hybrids beyond 5 iron, or utility/driving irons or even 7 woods, so having a 3 and 4 iron that sit in the garage is pointless and more expensive than it needs to be.
Long time wilson player. Tbh if you are in the UK. The price difference isnt that significant. Especially if you consider Mizuno, Srixon vast array of no upcharge shafts. Configure the Wilson's with a set of modus 105 and the price difference is nullified. While in Canada Wilson cbs are 600-700 cheaper 😊
Wilson's gotta make so much money from all the other sports they supply balls or like baseball gloves...an nonetary advantage unlike any other big golf brand really
They are not a fraction of the cost. They are s few hundred less. I love Wilson irons but I think I'm gonna try Tskomo's. They look great and are less than half of the big name clubs. Wesley Bryant was in 3rd place at one point st last weeks Rocket mortgage playing Takomo's. If they are good enough for Tour players they are plenty good enough for me. I've been playing TM Tour issue R9 C models for 12 years and still love them but would like to try something new. I just don't want to spend $1,000 on a set of Wilsons. I can by irons and a new driver if I go the Takomo route . Makes more sense to me.
I will give one main reason why they aren’t higher in the golfing world. Their customer service is horrible. The people answering the phone barely know their products and almost always have to email you back an answer. It doesn’t give you confidence you are talking to experts or if Wilson even knows how to custom build a club properly. That is very important in an industry which is so particular about features and customization. It seems the only way you can get a good answer from them is third party through a retailer and Wilson rep and even then it’s not great.
Alex you are 1 of my favorite teachers. Do not test these clubs. Pro told me otherwise; maybe you are paid. How about the Mizuno 923 forged irons. Both forged. I trust your judgment
Its all advertising and endorsements led. Wilson are a general sporting goods brand with a wide range of products. In the golf market they’re competing against golf only companies such as TM, Callaway, Ping and Titleist who can concentrate their marketing effort. Mizuno are also a multi- product brand who suffer when up against the golf only companies. Incidentally Wilson probably don’t make their clubs any cheaper they just sell them for less than the golf companies with larger marketing budgets. We have to pay for the millions they pour into pro player endorsements.
He's selling the public on these irons for a fee. That's all right, everyone needs to make a living. Are they really so great? probably not any better than more exspensive irons, i would venture to say. I'm finished believing everything i hear on people talking about how great clubs are. Been burned more than once, and that's on me.
Buy Buy Buy Buy!!!!! That's what these folks want you to believe. Get whatever irons you have professionally fitted and adjusted, put on the correct shafts for your swing speed, and new grips, then take a couple of lessons, and for less money than a set of new irons you will dramatically improve your scores more than any possible set of clubs could do.
That’s exactly what I’m thinking! If I’m gonna spend $1000 on the set of irons may as well just spend 200 more and get Mizuno. I’ll probably just end up giving Takomo a shot on my next set though.
7 iron at 34 degrees is def not strong that's old school loft......I play wilson staff anniversary irons and the 8 is 34 degrees and that I believe used to be industry standard ????
One. They don't stand by their products unlike taylormade and titleist. Two. Marketing? Three. Fairway woods non adjustable. I have been a wilson buyer for 10 years. Not now ,
For people to take these as an option, they have to be more than $100 less than the mainstream options. It’s not that they aren’t good. It’s just people want to play with the pros are playing and what everybody in their forced and it is going to be playing and they’re not gonna give that up for 100 bucks. Stupid as it is, it’s human nature
@@TonyToning-ne7uq says who? Wilson Staff is understatedly cool 😎 I play them, my dad plays them, and now my 17 year old son also wants to play Wilson. For now he’s just wearing a Wilson Staff glove 😂

I have a set of 62/63 Wilson Staff Dynapowers, with the red Fluid Feel rubber hosel inserts, that I picked up at a play it again in 99 for fun for $18 dollars. Feel was second to none, especially with a Titleist tour balata ball. Still have them.
I play a full set of Taylormade Burner Oversize irons. Bought them new and I probably need some new irons with the tech and forgiveness. Cheers
The problem I imagine is not many places stock Wilson golf clubs in the UK 🤷♂️
I just got fitted for these, they are awesome, can't wait to get them
The new CB irons are so nice. Love the milled face on them. They generate so much spin and seem a lot more durable.
Wilson’s new forged wedges are also stunning. So were their last model to be fair and I noticed a couple weeks ago PGA superstore is selling their last models forged tour wedges, 2 for $150, which is a great price.
Ping G15 - Been looking into new irons - but can't find any that feel better than the old G15s
Of all the club's I played the Wilson Fat shaft where the best feeling one. So I do believe that the Wilson irons are so good today and so is the feeling of them as well.
I have the cobra rad speed irons now looking for a change soon!
mizzy mp-32's I've never had a reason to try anything else. how do you improve on perfection?
My all-time favorite iron. Wish I still had mine. The Staff CB's a touch more forgiving though. Not sure I could stripe my 32's like I used to
I game the previous version cb’s and love them!
Yes sirrrr me too. Absolutely love them.
Same. Best iron I've played in over a decade. Can't see these leaving my bag.
Curious, do you prefer "our" version of the CB's aesthetics or these? I kinda dig my 2021 set.
@@miken2686 I like both actually. I can’t decide between the two from a looks standpoint. I would bet they preform extremely similar though!
Thinking of trading in my paradyms for a new set of these.
Do it. Can't imagine you regretting it.
Just got myself a set of d7 forged , absolutely brilliant irons
I got fitted, and it was Ping i530s for me
Alex I'm not a good enough golfer to really care about the sound an iron makes when struck well but these Wilson's sound amazing.
I play the 2021 staff CB irons and they are great clubs!
Shhhhh! Don't let this out how good these irons are.
Looking for a more forgiving iron for my 7.5 handicap. Any suggestions I'm gaming the P770?
Mizuno Pro 245 👌🏼
Maltby TS1-im irons are extremely workable, sleek and beautiful to the eye. Insanely forgiving for the size of blades and easy on the pocket. They are truly something else.
@@Joker-yh2xg THIS! Of all the underrated irons, Maltby might be at the top of that list.
Selling my v6’s to buy some d7 forged irons. Wilson wedges are good and I have one in my bag
I've been using the Wilson D9 and must admit those irons your using look 100 times better
@HowGoodGolf
I'm currently playing the JPX 923 hot metal pro's and have been considering changing to these.
I have the previous Model CB's in the bag. They are the dogs bollocks
Same. Never getting rid of them.
Gaming some Macgregor irons. LOVE them. Most underrated iron brand in my opinion. That being said i also think Wilson is underrated. Great brand. Great irons. Great balls. And I've been super tempted to buy their driver.
Which Macgregor irons are you playing? I was just watching some review videos on them, they look incredible.
LOVE my Wilson 5 wood. D7.
Wilson staff and McGregor tourney irons were and still are the pick of the litter
Mizuno MP-54 forged.....love em!
Which course are you at Alex?
Good looking irons, similar in appearance to my Apex 21's
You need to do more background checking. You said they were a little on the strong lofted side. A standard 7 iron is 34 degrees which is what you said that one was. These are dead on the old players lofts. Not strong at all. All of those lofts were STANDARD.
Are you keeping the Dynapower Forged in the bag Alex? Or switching to the CB’s?
I cant decide 😂
Still play my fg59’s
I've been seeing lots of positive Wilson Staff reviews recently, it seems like they've committed themselves to be in the ballpark of premium brands, but costing a notch lower.
Gamed Wilson for 20+ years they make the best irons period
Yes love that!!!
They're 1300 usd. How is that middle? Custom 790s are 1400.
Yeah Wilson has gone up in price.
Srixon ZX7's
Best I've ever felt
I like your content but a Cavity Back Iron is pretty self explanatory... There is a Cavity in the back of the Iron and a 34 degree 7 Iron is Not a strong loft.
Wilson Staff model forged!
Wilson is trying to overcome their years as a cheap, Kmart set supplier. Tough to regain that once great brand identity.
@@cameronloveless1751 Bingo!
Makes more sense to me.
does the 9 iron have a dent in it's face?
They are gorgeous
You have the same energy like i do after i drink a c4😂
He's selling the public on these irons for a fee. That's all right, everyone needs to make a living. Are they really so great? probably not any better than more exspensive irons, i would venture to say. I'm finished believing everything i hear on people talking about how great clubs are. Been burned more than once, and that's on me.
I resisted getting fitted for a few years, just got fitted and I'm super happy with the new sticks
Wilson clubs have always been good.
If no one is buying them , why don’t they lower the price? We all know the markup is over 150 percent!!!!
That’s exactly what I’m thinking! If I’m gonna spend $1000 on the set of irons may as well just spend 200 more and get Mizuno. I’ll probably just end up giving Takomo a shot on my next set though.
Wilson DynaPower forged.
Adams Forged CB3's.
So how many golf channels does this guy host. Seems like he is on every other channel
'This probably isn't the right club.'..then precedes to hole it! lol..Class
haha
Ability to get custom fit. If it's not openly easy to get fitted people won't go looking for them
7 iron at 34 degrees is def not strong that's old school loft......I play wilson staff anniversary irons and the 8 is 34 degrees and that I believe used to be industry standard ????
One. They don't stand by their products unlike taylormade and titleist. Two. Marketing? Three. Fairway woods non adjustable. I have been a wilson buyer for 10 years. Not now ,
Wilson golf clubs are as good as anyone's....if not better. Wilson is close to a 100 year old company. They know what they are doing.
@3:16 your 9 iron looks dented.
Why dont we hear… it‘s called Marketing Budget
Ping g425's best irons ever .
Have you tried PXG? 🧐
@@IIISWILIII not yet . I here there good
Sorry the 7 iron is 34
For people to take these as an option, they have to be more than $100 less than the mainstream options. It’s not that they aren’t good. It’s just people want to play with the pros are playing and what everybody in their forced and it is going to be playing and they’re not gonna give that up for 100 bucks.
Stupid as it is, it’s human nature
I read your last sentence as humans are stupid
The 9-iron face looks dented!
Because we don't need new irons...
the three click bates for golf equipment vids "no one buying" , "shocked" , "Giant Killer" Yaaaawn
Wilson.... thats why no one is buying them.. purely the name..
When they’ve won the most majors of any company….🤔
@@cameronloveless1751 so why arent amateurs buying their irons then?
@@TonyToning-ne7uq says who? Wilson Staff is understatedly cool 😎
I play them, my dad plays them, and now my 17 year old son also wants to play Wilson. For now he’s just wearing a Wilson Staff glove 😂
@@cameronloveless1751 im a scratch golfer and i dont know anyone playing them and ive played all over the UK
@@TonyToning-ne7uq keep an eye out… cos the renaissance is underway
34 degrees 7 iron isn't classed as "strong" lofted. Not even in modern terms.
For average and slow swing speeds it is better to have more lofted clubs
Wilson more famous as Jim's dog
In Friday Night Dinner
Seriously great golf clubs balls and gear 🏌🏿♂️
I loved friday night dinner
