for those of us looking for the tone knob: The DXMB has a low cut tone control feature which the RATE knob adjusts. Enter low cut mode by pressing and holding down the EXP. MODE button for 2 seconds. After two seconds, all of the EXP. MODE LEDs will light solid and you can release the button. At this point, the RATE knob no longer adjusts the rate of modulation but instead sets the frequency for the DXMB’s low cut filter. As you turn RATE clockwise, less bass will be present in the delayed signal. To completely bypass the low cut filter so that the full bass response comes through, turn the RATE knob down to the full counter-clockwise position. To exit low cut mode, press and release the EXP. MODE button. The DXMB will save the low cut setting, even after power cycling, and it will remain at that setting until adjusted again. The default setting from the factory is for the low cut filter to be bypassed.
The DMB does have a tone shaping control for the repeats, it has a hi pass filter when you hold down expression mode for 2 seconds, the rate knob becomes a filter knob.
I have both. Side by side the DMB has a thicker and darker sound, the feedback repeats are more consistent and it gives more predictable results. The gain knob is really nice too. The Supa Puss has better feeling switches and it's a lot easier to drive into oscillation, it has more mojo but it's a bit harder to set just "right". The repeats are brighter, thinner and a bit noisy, there's more grit and not as much low end as in the DMB, they also fade quicker. If you set it right you can get a really cool organ like sustain. The modulation in the Supa Puss is awesome. I need both, they sound different and both are really really good.
Thank you for that breakdown, I've been trying to decide between these two pedals for a long time. I was for a while looking at the original 1100 Memory Man Deluxe Tap and the 550 TT. Soonly after I realized The memory boy deluxe or a supa puss looked like the more economical solution, The puss seems to have a little more personality but with my board it seems like the Memory Boy Deluxe is a better solution, because everything the DMB is lacking is already present on my board. Thanks man.
Excellent demo...nice playing. It's nice to hear a demo of a delay pedal by a guitarist that knows how to use one. I have the Deluxe Mem Boy and love it...great pedal. It also has the expression feature which is excellent for generating smooth swells and adding modulation in certain song parts.
OH...and also worth stating, after emailing Way Huge, you can reconfigure the "expression input" to an external tap tempo if you want to synch multiple analog tap tempo devices together! I own the EH Memory Boy, but will be buying the Supa Puss.
Maybe its my playback, but I almost feel like you should've shaved back the tone on the Supa Puss to match the EH Memory Boy before stating you thought that the Supa Puss did not carry thru with the repeats as well. Just my 2 cents...otherwise, one of the better analog delay comparisons on the tube.
A year ago I was convinced I wanted the Supa Puss. After this video I pulled the trigger on the EHX. So shnoble friend you do make a difference It's strange though cause is the way huge is more expensive and therefore supposedly better quality. I don't know so much about internals but it sounds better
The Aqua Puss is a killer analog delay, much better than the Memory Boy IMO. It is hard to dial in just right, but when it's right it rivals my Strymon for pure tone.
I've had the dmb since it's release. Just got a tonal recall RKM and a/b'd them. The RKM is for sale now. Can't fuck with the ehx preamp. I ordered a Deluxe memory man tt1100. We'll see if it kicks the boy off the board.
@shnobel thanks, this video successfully led me to bought deluxe memory boy 2 years ago - still on my board until now. Can you please please make a comparison of EHX DMBoy vs JHS Panther Cub (analog delay TT comparison). Thanks.
The only thing I see wrong with the Memory Boy is how the delays do not roll over after you turn off the pedal itself which is SO FRUSTRATING and can sound really goofy if you aren't careful with it.
I have two questions about Deluxe Memory Boy: First, how do you manage with the Clock Noise on the slow repeats? Second, I also play with Stratocaster to a VOX AC30 but when I connect the delay into the FX loop the repeats are very overdriven and the sound makes no difference whether the delay is connected to the FX loop or in front of the amp. How can I handle with these problems? Please help! Thanks! Great video!
Excellent playing! I could listen to this while doing homework all day :) I find that the DMB is really warm and has deep sounding repeats, yet the Supa Puss has really amazing character to it. Which do you prefer?
Maybe I got a bad build, but I was wholly underwhelmed by the DMB. Dark as fuck, as in no definition on the repeats, just muffled, and I had to fiddle forever just to get a usable unity sound. Turning up the treble to actually choked the repeats as well, and the loop gain was quiet. not impressed.

Yes you do have tone control with boy , just hold down the EXP Mode down , rate knob will change it !

Yeah man, I want both. With my El Capistan I would have stereo and/or wet/dry delays from heaven.

The snare sound of the begining of the video made me listen to it over and over and over... it sounds AMAZING!
On the memory boy, you can hold the expression button and you can activate a low pass filter....
Maybe its my playback, but I almost feel like you should've shaved back the tone on the Supa Puss to match the EH Memory Boy before stating you thought that the Supa Puss did not carry thru with the repeats as well. Thank you! because a pedal is more money doesn't always mean it will be better
@@shnobeltone word. There are legitimately great pedals for 100 120 euro
the supa puss makes it sound more dry which is amazing cause you want as little change as possible when you it comes to delay
Supa-Puss is great. But...MB: two words:
Effects Loop.
The possibilities are endless.
DMB sounds wayyyyy better than most of these delays you demo. To my ears at least. It's pretty funny.
A really great comparison video. Good job mate.

Thanks for the demo great job both nice I like the Memory Boy for me.

The sound of "Supa Pus" is so thin, deception (2)
"Bass Eater" (Great Video!).
The Memory Boy sounds surprisingly fuller. The Supa Puss sounds thinner over all. That's a surprise for me
Actually it activates a High Pass Filter, which filters out low end.
@shnobel thanks, this video successfully led me to bought deluxe memory boy 2 years ago - still on my board until now. Can you please please make a comparison of EHX DMBoy vs JHS Panther Cub (analog delay TT comparison). Thanks.
memory boy wins
MB takes quite some space on the board, it's bigger and input/ output on the sides. Something to realize on small boards...
DMB vs JHS Panther....What do ya reckon??:)
I think E.H memory boy sounds better to my ears.
The SP has a trails.
EH MB.. but NO TRAILS is the deal-breaker.
at 7:00 - great Stu G lick.
wow the puss series is supposed to be a clone of the DM-2 but wow what a difference
The only thing I see wrong with the Memory Boy is how the delays do not roll over after you turn off the pedal itself which is SO FRUSTRATING and can sound really goofy if you aren't careful with it.
great demo!! memory boy wins!

well this is the Supa Puss pedal that im playing on
The switch in memory boy was piss poor, has rendered the pedal useless now. Anyone advise on the switches used in the way huge pedal?
What about a demo with Ibanez DE7 and supa puss, or DE7 and DMB :)
Creo que EHX sabe una cosa o dos sobre analog delays, se lo comió tranquilo.
I was gonna type this but you already said it haha well said! :-)
Maybe I got a bad build, but I was wholly underwhelmed by the DMB. Dark as fuck, as in no definition on the repeats, just muffled, and I had to fiddle forever just to get a usable unity sound.

Memory boy for me !
Memory Boy for me !!!
Memory Boy, wins hands down
Chords please? I love these chord sounds.
Both those pedals do the that same thing..i hate it too
Can you tap the tempo prior to engaging pedals on either of these delay machines?
to me the deluxe memory man sounds better than the boy
Boy Better !
Oh, yeah thats what i meant. Haha...
