  • The S&P500 hit a record high yesterday, its 30th record high since the beginning of this year. The technology stocks led the rally. Big banks revised their PTs up and IMF confirmed that nearly a third of global funds went to the US since the pandemic.
    Of course, this much optimism is never good sign and when you start hearing big revisions to price targets, it’s generally time to sell. But sell to go where? The European and the British stocks were supposed to perform well in the reflation context and now they are falling off the race. China is sputtering with housing crisis, geopolitical tensions and slow recovery. Other emerging markets are bearing the brunt of a polarized world and uncertain global outlook.
    Today, all eyes are on the US retail sales and industrial production data. A softer-than-expected set of figures could fuel the Fed doves, while stronger-than-expected data could fuel the goldilocks optimism. If investors want to see the glass half full, they will find a reason to do so.

    US yields moved higher yesterday but didn't spoil the party. Doesn't affect AAPL or MSFT.

      No it doesn’t, AI pricing weighs heavier for now.

    US retail sales are rolling over with yet more revisions on previous months figures. The Fed will be way behind the curve. The hand outs have all been spent and the jobs figures are only going one way. CHF doing its thing !

      If they cut prematurely and things don’t go toward the predicted direction, it’s worse though. It’s a bumpy last mile …

    Hi Ipek and thank you, one could imagine (the economist's tool 😉) that a US rate cut would boost the non- AI stocks but the risk of that contributing to inflation is how high?

    • @ipekozkardeskaya1383
      @ipekozkardeskaya1383 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That’s the base case scenario - the widening of the rally thanks to reflation. If growth comes from the supply-side, risk on inflation is limited 😎

      @@ipekozkardeskaya1383 "If growth comes from the supply side" is wishful thinking??

      @ipekozkardeskaya1383 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Oh no supply-side growth is a plausible scenario. AI could help that happen by improving productivity, the record US oil production is a good example, as well.

    You're telling me it's the top of the S&P haha...I am tempted to buy the CAC 40 tbh. My oil stocks are finally doing very well today after 9 weeks of torture.

      @ipekozkardeskaya1383 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I don’t know, I still think that the US stocks are more interesting than the rest but the Wall Street’s enthusiasm makes me think twice …😊

      @@ipekozkardeskaya1383 Well they are interesting and if the enthusiasm is so much, it might correct and become even more interesting haha. Yeah I took a look at CAC 40 and noticed that it's highly correlated with the S&P 500 so when the S%P is doing so well, I don't like to buy it high so I will just stay the course.
