I’ve owned this amp for about a month (paired with Holo Spring 3 and Susvara) and it is by far the most musical yet precise sounding amp I’ve ever heard in my life.
@@LSDScreen I use 60-80 on my Spring 3 KTE to AMP-13R (the one that Tyler reviewed) depending on headphone (HD600/580 or Susvara, primarily), leaving bakoon at 20 on the dial.
thank you for the great impressions, Tyler! this amp is not in my budget but I 'd love the clicky knob, the clever thing it's doing, when unplugging headphones and the remote. really like the clean look! have a nice weekend
I have this amp for a month and paired it with Susvara and Abyss 1266 (OG) ... highly recommend to switch to low gain mode when use it as a headphone amp as I found the sound much fuller and musical when comparing with high gain (the difference is especially noticeable on Susvara, it sometime sounds too bright on high gain)....
@@TylersEclectic just don't forget that gain does not equal power output. More like making the gas pedal more sensitive, so to speak. :) If you're not going over, say, 1 o'clock on the volume pot at listening levels then stay at low gain as it'll have the least amount of noise and distortion. This could be why you prefer the low gain option.
This is the same with Oor's voltage control. WaveTheory mentions it somewhere in the later part of his Oor's review. Seems it's a general rule, independent of any particular amp.
Low gain mode only limits the gain knob from 0 to 7dB gain, whereas "high gain" allows the gain knob to sweep from 0db to 22.5dB - there is no such thing as "low" or "high" gain modes, it's just a gain limiter. You shouldn't hear a difference, but only use as much gain as you need to get the volume and drive you need. For the Susvara, for me it definitely sounds better >7dB gain (possibly need ~13dB with 2V line in), so need to sweep up beyond gain limit of 7dB.
These are great amps not only for headphones but for high efficiency speakers too. I use the Bakoon amp-51r with my deville sq are they just have a great synergy and they just sing. But there is something with a small amp with big sonic capabilities.
sweet review Tyler; one beautiful piece of kit. Per $ invested I think one can do a bit better. Volot, Oor/Hypsos, Soloist 3GT, Niimbus US5, Mass Kobo 394ii are a few SS options that would hang with it or beat it out.
Didn't realize Susvara was not your favorite. When I see people use it I just assume it's their favorite headphone haha. Do you have a favorite that you go to all the time?
@@TylersEclectic Awesome I need to try a ZMF one day. It's nice to have a headphone that is just fun to listen to. Some of these TOTL options can be fun but also fatiguing if you aren't interested in hearing all the detail they offer.
Nice review! ConvinceMeAudio reviewed the 23R (2nd gen) with the Susvara too, he liked it overall except the mids which he said is flat and lifeless, he was comparing with the AHB2, do you agree with his impressions.
That's interesting, because I've recently read people on head-fi calling AHB2 lifeless and dry. It was either in the Oor or Bliss thread and it referred both to AHB2 sound at it's own, but even more so in the direct comparison to both of those.
Is it just me or is the number of subscribers increasing? I hope this is correct because it couldn't happen to a nicer person. Kudos for another great video. Your videography skills are becoming very impressive 👍
Thank you! Yeah, am seeing some steady growth, who would have thought! Slowly getting better at filming! Now to work on delivery and better timing of broll lol 😆 appreciate you! Hope all is good in your neck of the woods!
How do you have them setup? I use mine in Nearfield, which doesn’t need as much power… if you have them in a more traditional listening/living room setup… I’d go with a minimum of 45watts amplifier. Hopefully that helps
its super easy to say about the amp for 6 k usd if you dont own this and can return it anytime or change it into something other. but too bad these devices cant be listened for testing for everyone who wants to purchase em
Agreed, best way I know of is to see if local audio shops have the gear… or join some audio groups and organize get togethers… this is definitely not an easy hobby.
@@TylersEclectic i really wonder how this amp would be playing with headphones such music styles like - IDM, ambient, electroacoustic ambient, shoegaze, classical ambient, glitch, psy-chill etc. Cuz Im mostly into eclectic music but also can play rock or metal as well.
@@Antdroid that is good to hear. Two questions please. What DAC are you using and is the 23R as good as tube amps. Another analyst rates the 23R as best amp (and he is buying one) but for ZMF cans recommends LTA MZ3 or D10e because of less sibilance. I am about to pull the trigger on the 23R or D10e but would prefer to avoid the NOS tube sourcing challenge. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated as I have not been able to demo the amps.
GREAT opening shots dude! The unit looks beautiful.
Thanks my dude! Still working my way to your level 😄… I have a long way to go ha! I’m enjoying the learning and journey!
