This is one of my biggest irritations with some singers. You can tell they hold themselves back because they're afraid to make a possibly ugly face but its like GIRL LET IT OUT, GET RAW WITH YOUR VOICE.
Tbh there was a time I hoped she release more of her original stuff. But after being impressed by her arrangements in every new cover of her esp. the massive avalanche of masterpieces she dropped in 2020, nowadays I’m just hoping she’s gonna cover as many songs as possible and hopefully most of my personal fav songs are included in there too. Hello. I live in Korea, We didn't know much about her because she only sang for God. But now I really love her and her songs. I'm listening almost every day. She is a lovely, warm and humble person. The show invites 6 stars in their own genres (pop, traditional Korean, classical, CCM, etc.) who all are paid for their performance to an episode centered on a particular theme. Sohyang has participated in 6 episodes 2014-2018. The studio audience votes on their favorite to make it more interesting but there are no prizes nor advancement to a later round - just bragging rights. This was a special episode inviting singers who had been especially amazing in previous episodes (highest ever score, most career wins etc.) - all 6 performances were very good and several were spectacular. The audience favorite that night was a very popular singer who provided a sweet and flawless but to my mind not jaw-dropping performance.

I literally GASPED when I saw this video drop. I was introduced to Sam's channel through his reactions of Sohyang and I've been pondering and waiting for the day when he'd revisit the 👑queen👑 for yearssssss. Thanks for the reaction and analysis. I've been waiting so long for this. Sohyang took us on a rollercoaster ride with this performance. This was arguably the most technically challenging and emotional song she has ever performed. "Next level singing" indeed. She is a phenomenal vocalist and an incredible performer. Back to Sohyang- yes! That is the truth, this was an Immortal Songs contest and no she didn't win. It goes on audience vote and whoever is most popular tends to win. Sohyang is well loved in Korea and was easily the best singer there but not as popular as the idols that she was up against.

Immortal Songs 2 is a program where they get singers to compete against each other to gain the votes of 500 member audience. Sohyang lost to the previous singer before her, who had 410 votes. I understand music is subjective but it still blows my mind how she didn't win.
Unlike King of Mask Singer, Immortal Songs results are very much affected by the popularity of the performer, and also the composition of the audience. Sohyang also did not win Arirang Alone. Her version was too modern for the theme for that particular episode.

I knew we would get a thorough and technical breakdown from you on Sohyang's singing here but I have to say that it is a disappointment not to see you shed tears here after all your build-up :-) All the vocal terminology terms just roll off your tongue as if you were giving morning greetings. ♥️Sohyang is my Queen of Singers.... not because she is an insane amazing singer, but she is so great at making the lyrics of the song live and full of authenticity. She sings like every word means something to her personally. Love listening to her!! ♥️
She takes part in a lot of these singing competitions like Immortal song 2 and doesn’t win. It’s mind blowing like yes all the other singers are great but she’s definitely next level.
You should understand at that time of 2012 I am a singer2, it was her first debut to mainstream tv show. People almost hadn't heard about her, only musicians and christian listeners knew her. Despite all those disadvantages, she made a record of highest average rank of 1.9 above all singers, which means she won or put in second place almost on every episodes. She might not be the final winner but she was in final top 3 with other most famous vocalists of the country. That's why people in Korea says her as the Queen of competition shows.

Michael Bolton invited her on tour afterwards. And about the effect thing. Immortal songs but some effects on. In this performance not much (which can be heard in the fancam which sound still as amazing as this) but they do. To me, it increased over the years. The really old performances of the singers there sounded more raw. Please please check more of her! Interesting would be a calmer piece maybe like "Love Poem" on begin again (it's perfect) or "Misty" (she sang it on concerts and begin again). This is technical perfection there. And seems so easy. ☺️

Interplanetary Great is my new favorite adjective for her, and you nailed it about her superpowers being used to help the storytelling which is what I think those of us die hard fans keep us coming back. I went and listened and for sure cried but AGH that processing they put on their voices is so distracting. They don't need it, they're both very talented ladies.
This is the most amazing thing I've ever heard. I do have some knowledge cos I'm a pianist and used to sing until I wrecked my voice belting. I think it's gone for good now
She didn't win but the contest was to stay true to Korean traditional music and her arrangement was really a eastern western fusion. The girl that did win was very versatile traditional korean.

As a studio engineer So Hyang has a voice we live to mix. She has every tonal quality and such great control that basically all we would need to do is add a little reverb and/or delay and smile.

♥️Sohyang is my Queen of Singers.... not because she is an insane amazing singer, but she is so great at making the lyrics of the song live and full of authenticity. She sings like every word means something to her personally. Love listening to her!! ♥️
She takes part in a lot of these singing competitions like Immortal song 2 and doesn’t win. It’s mind blowing like yes all the other singers are great but she’s definitely next level.
You should understand at that time of 2012 I am a singer2, it was her first debut to mainstream tv show. People almost hadn't heard about her, only musicians and christian listeners knew her. Despite all those disadvantages, she made a record of highest average rank of 1.9 above all singers, which means she won or put in second place almost on every episodes. She might not be the final winner but she was in final top 3 with other most famous vocalists of the country. That's why people in Korea says her as the Queen of competition shows.

Michael Bolton invited her on tour afterwards. And about the effect thing. Immortal songs but some effects on. In this performance not much (which can be heard in the fancam which sound still as amazing as this) but they do. To me, it increased over the years. The really old performances of the singers there sounded more raw.
Please please check more of her! Interesting would be a calmer piece maybe like "Love Poem" on begin again (it's perfect) or "Misty" (she sang it on concerts and begin again). This is technical perfection there. And seems so easy. ☺️

She didn't win but the contest was to stay true to Korean traditional music and her arrangement was really a eastern western fusion. The girl that did win was very versatile traditional korean.

Lol. I think people are just happy to see someone with such technical knowledge also be able to be wowed, but in a different way than the average listener.
As a studio engineer So Hyang has a voice we live to mix. She has every tonal quality and such great control that basically all we would need to do is add a little reverb and/or delay and smile.
