It seems she put everything she got on every note in this performance.
This song and its arrangements are not only technically and physically demanding,
it also requires an absolute commitment and emotional connection between the song and the singer.
I'm sure she's completely spent afterward both physically and emotionally. This is an insane performance.
Yes she admitted in an interview afterward , that this was the most demanding song she has ever performed! Both technically and for breath control! She said she was struggling a little to take sufficient breaths! Amazing well over 7 minutes at that tempo, belting, runs, switching languages, the emotion! Just crazy!
In the middle of the performance, she said: "When I'm lonely, who is it to comfort me? It's you."
I must have watched and re-watched this performance like over 50 times but it never ceases to SHAKE me to my core. I truly believe Sohyang is like one top the top 3 best vocalists in living history. Not just of this generation, but in all of history. Yeah, I said it.

She ang her heart out all the way, stretching her voice everywhere, THEN at the finish she still does some amazing runs that we don't notice because we are still thinking about what she already did. This is what perfect vocal training does for you. She sang an epic long song, full on, but showed no signs of fatigue.
She is definitely a Christian. What some people would call a born-again believer. And this was one of those contests shows where she's competing against other great singers. It's a concept I'm not quite familiar with because it seems that they take these established Korean singers and they have these contest shows with them. Whatever it is I sure do enjoy it and I absolutely love So-Hyang!

This show is a Singing competition. They pick a legendary singer or songwriter or them. And the fellow singers make them as their own style and compete. The audiences are the judge. This episode was about old singer Yoon Bokhee. It is one of her most famous song. So Hyang is gospel singer. And S. Korea has big christian music industry.

I think that the 'nega/naega' (not completely sure how its pronounced) means 'I'. Also I'd like to add that I liked how as the high note was coming up you didnt speak over it and interrupt/ miss the note, I see a lot of channels start to speak as the note is coming and they miss it, so thank you for that appreciate and respect.

The names I can't remember but the song was written by a korean man for his wife who was a korean singer. The original does not sound like this. The whole thing was re-jigged by sohyang which is where the gospel sound came in. I know this is two years late but I've only just seen this reaction from you Yazik. You obviously love her as much as I do. She just fills my heart with joy.

(Yazik) Sohyang, in my opinion, is quite unique Korean singer/performer as having gospel/christian music background and language advantage(decent English) over the other native Korean singers. Compared with my favorite singers, excellent in singing emotional Korean ballad notes (mostly gloomy, sentimental, revealing personal/sad stories w/monologue style), her style comes more towards a bit brighter and/or pop music style. She seems like a perfectionist regarding her vocal techniques and wonderful stage performances rather than an serious artist focusing more on his/her own emotion and musical insights. Yes, she's GREAT!! but not everyone(inclusing Koreans) might put her on the best position over the other Korean singers. However, vocal coaches/reaction TH-camrs speaking foreign language will find her genuine quality/value easily because they can find her previous performances singing songs in English(or parts of her performances in Englosh) on TH-cam, I guess.
Personally, I prefer to listen to some other Korean musicians like Lena Park, Hyosin Park, Crush and Jukjae, though. (I'm a big fan of Korean ballads songs and song writers, actually)
Korea is meca of protestant. Almost 25% of South Korean population is Cristian. 25% is Buddhism. It is top Christian nation in entire Asia. So Gospel songs are very popular. Lots of korean missionary go to other countries and deliver those songs. We called those songs are CCM songs. So Hyang sometimes goes around Korean Churches to prepare her angelic songs in other country.
