I was a 9 year old boy in Ireland. My father told me one night to get to bed because I had school in the morning. Nothing I didn't know already but it was a dead giveaway that he was watching some sporting event downstairs. A half hour later and I crept downstairs and into the living room where he was watching Ali v Frazier 1 from Madison Square Garden. To his eternal credit (he's departed now) he allowed me to stay up way late and watch the whole fight. I was in awe ofJoe Frazier that night and still am to this day. One of the best boxers of all time.
WE LOVE YOU SMOKE. REST IN PEACE CHAMP. THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR NOT PUTTING UP A STATUE OF A REAL CHAMPION, JOE FRAZIER, BUT THEY PUT ONE UP OF A FICTIONAL CHARACTER. THIS WORLD AMAZES ME.
Man Joe Frazier what a Legend. Will miss you champ. These are the true fighters and how all boxers should be. The boxing of today has no class whatsoever. All they do is say F non stop.
Siging autographs at ceasars, man gotta hop on these oppertunities while you can, i would love to be there talking to joe frazier and getting a autograph
Now that was a nice interview. I sure like Joe he always had a lot of class. Champion of my Hometown and of the world Philadelphia and the United States.
He didnt even see (or it didnt register) that the host held his hand like 10 seconds in front of him to shake his hand :( if i would have seen this when it aired i would have said that Joe is on the last leg of his tour... R.I.P. CHAMP.
Ali himself said he felt close to death. His huge heart prolly would've gotten him off the stool for a final round, but we'll never know what would've happened.
@@keithkimmeysr953 haha believe the myth... so those 6 seconds won the bout even though Ali came out dominated the 5th and ended when he said It would haha ... do your boxing homework he had 6 seconds

Eire 💪
Fantastic story mate
Unfortunately no one could watch this at home. It was closed circuit only and replays were not allowed until months and months
Shame that the host couldn't shut up and let the Great Man talk.
Probably what they told him to do.
My Favorite Heavyweight Champ The Great Joe Frazier!!!
Mine too. Just the biggest heart and the strongest will.
He was the winner in a contest between 2 undefeated legends that was the biggest sporting event EVER.
That's the legacy he's left.
1st fight was iconic. 3rd fight was brutal.

Met Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali and joe DiMaggio in Cherry hill NJ in 1996, Ali slap boxed with me and gave a hug. What a cool guy,
Ali slap boxed in 96 ?? Ali was more or less housebound in 96 could barely walk.
yeah Joe u sure as hell won that fight against Ali in fight century loud and clear with the left hook that send Ali to the floor
Dont forget Ali was secretly battling Parkinson's, and taking medication, he shouldn't of even been in the ring.
