Joe Frazier fought in what is arguably the greatest era in Heavyweight boxing history and his only professional losses were to the legendary fighters, George Foreman and Muhammad Ali. He was truly one of the greatest, ever.
Joe maybe the toughest human ever. 8 knockdowns from Foreman who might be hardest puncher ever and he got up 8 times and went 41 total rounds with Ali and never stopped, if it wasn't for Futch he would of died in the ring before he quit.
He was never the same after the first Ali fight. As far as I'm concerned the Joe that fought Ali in there first fight was probably the greatest hw to walk the earth

Fraziers endurance and stamina was incredible as with all his fights you never knew if it was the first round or the last as his endurance was the same from start to finish an without overstating it he had superhuman endurance.
Smokin' Joe never fully received the credit n praises for his boxing skills, abilities, toughness but most importantly he carried himself with dignity, class n commitment throughout his boxing career. Well put. You are spot on about Joe Frazier. He was my mother's favorite boxer when I was a kid. My dad was an Ali fan. Coincidentally, my Dad favored Joe Frazier, who was in his twenties for a majority of the 70s. The only live fight I ever got to see of Frazier live was the fight that he came back out of retirement in 1980 I think. But my favorite Frazier fight was The Thrilla in Manila. Although Joe lost to Ali that fight he could've won if Eddie Futch new Ali was going to quit after the 11th rd. To get Joe to relent and save his eye Futch told him, No one will forget what you did here today ..." Eddie Futch is a Got-damned profit.
That leaping left hook was nasty! One of the best weapons in boxing history. Very few fighters have ever been able to put that much into a punch and still be so fluid with it. Unfortunately many people forget about another aspect of boxing that he was great at, defense, because of his aggressive style he rarely gets credit for being so elusive. But watch his fights and see how many punches he slipped on the way in, every bit as elusive as Ali.
Love ‘smokin’ Joe Frazier- once I actually took up boxing myself, I realised the incredible strength & conditioning he must have had in order to maintain his frenetic pace, and especially his Bob and weave style. He’s always been a joy to watch, and I also admire that he overcame being a smaller HW buy employing his pressure style. I’m also a fan of one of his early protégés-Bert Cooper. Although Cooper would underachieve, and never quite adopt the same style needed to be more successful, I still enjoy watching his many fights, especially vs Moorer. A true legend and champion rightly deserving of a place amongst the ATG’s.
Joe Frazier really got bored with boxing although he needed the money he was caught up in his band the Knockouts and never trained as he did earlier in his career coming in to face George Foreman who was in great shape he was Fat and slow at 215 instead of 205 his fighting weight add to that he was drinking bob foster his friend said it on video a good champion but his day was over .
My favorite memory of Frazier is the absurd rage he had going in against Ali in their first fight I don’t believe anyone had that kind of fury going into a fight

I think the charisma of Ali (who you could say is THE fighter) also gives him an edge on how everyone remembers him and in consequence how they remember all the other great fighters with that Ali background. I kinda like these guys who don't have that as much. It makes the "making life fair" that Teddy Atlas was talking about even sweeter somehow. Smokin' Joe rules!

I'm a trainer myself these days. Similar dimensions to Joe. 6'0 and 210 pounds. I still study Frazier and always will. US small Heavyweights stick together. I love the Thrills but he beat Ali when they were both closer to their physical primes.

Joe Frazier had an arthritic elbow in his left arm, so his left arm was constantly bent. He used this to his advantage. So since hooks are supposed to be delivered with elbows bent anyway, he never had to focus on keeping the elbow bent, he would just concentrate on the torque. No matter how hard he’d swing his left arm the mechanics of the hook were automatic so he could just swing as he pleased.
There are so many claims to being an all time great but fraziers incredible endurance was off the chart and the only 2 fighters were themselves all time greats in foreman an Ali says it all, frazier was indeed one of the true all time greats.

Frazier was a tough resilient fighter. His constant pressure, strength and speed (early on) wore out his opponents. But at 5’ 11” his height and reach forced him to take a lot of shots when getting in close. Big heavyweights like Ali & Foreman were able to step back land hard shots.
A great fighter, one of the best ever. Ali brought out the best in Joe. The first Ali/ Frazier fight was Joe's crowning achievement. He landed the left hook many times during that fight, but the one that floored Ali late in the fight was a thing of beauty.
