Hey, Everybody!! Mother's Day is right around the corner! Here are some cute, easy pots to make for the special mother's in our lives. Homemade gifts are always a hit and these are easy enough for kids to participate as well. I hope you like the video, please subscribe if you do =)
UPDATE!! It's been over a month since I made these. I want to report they are still in perfect condition after sitting in the sun, humidity, rain, wind and being watered daily. I attribute this to the fact that I use elmers glue all in my pouring medium and the house paint. check the description for a link to my pouring medium!
I made some too, but I put the tape on the inside to block the hole, this way the bottom stays neat. These turned out very nice

Very pretty pots. I need to try this, I've got a dull looking pot that keeps calling my name and saying "HELP"; you have given me the solution! Love the colors you used, I would not have thought of using house paint - now I can use up those sample jars that are taking up space in the garage cabinet. Love watching your videos. I was an activity director at an assisted living facility. We would decorate pots with beautiful printed tissue paper that we'd prime with a complimentary color. We would place the tissue paper on the wet, primed surface and let it dry. Finished it off with polyurethane gloss varnish. We also painted the pots like your are doing in this video. Thank goodness we only did ten pots. When we placed plants in them, the moisture made the paint peel right off. Same with the gorgeous tissue papered ones. We switched to plastic pots instead. Made well over 700.00 dollars that year. We donated 350.00 to an orphanage near us. We also treated the residents to movies and concerts. I still have two pots in my home. These pots are over 10 years old and holding up just fine. May I suggest putting a smaller plastic pot inside the clay pot? And, a plastic saucer that is clear. We painted the underside instead of painting the saucer where the pot would sit. Thanks for letting me blabber. I just don't want anyone's hard work to be in vain. These are beautiful!

What kind of paint did you use? and did they peel even after the poly gloss?
Just craft paint and polyurethane. OIL based at first. Still peeled off. Clay has millions of air cells and, no matter how much primer is put on, the paint will peel. Unless of course it's porcelain. That's a whole other animal. I was paying for the art supplies. Activity directors and teachers..:] Started with clay and worked our way to plastic. The plastic was primed with white primer. Those were no problem at all. Many of my residents made gorgeous clay pots. We decided to fill those pots with cheap potting soil, silk flowers and, it was stunning. Phthalo blue, blended into royal purple and gold. Lovely! White orchid. We just told the customers these were to be used as pure decoration and they were fine with that idea. It was our best seller. The children in the orphanage were our friends. We'd get together almost every day, so, we taught them how to paint the pots. We sold the pots for 25.00 each. EVERYBODY made money! They looked very expensive. Fond memories.
Thank you for your help. I did mine in house paint and I have put some potting soil and flowers in them and have been watering them daily to see if they would get ruined as they are gifts and I don't want to send them if they are peeling. so far so good but time will tell lol.

When the pots are properly painted and dried, could you fill them with dirt and plsnts?
Do they show that white line on the outside after holding a plant for some time?
Will the paint just kinda pull off if they are used as planters outside?

So the paint peeling was a HUGE topic of discussion in my Facebook group when I first made these. A lot of people were saying I needed to seal them, and some people in the video comments did, too. But I primed them with House paint first and then did the pour in house paints, not acrylic, so I wanted to see how they would hold up. These sat out in the heat, rain, wind, etc for 4 months, most of which was summer. They held up great. I gave my mother in law one and she says hers is fine. My pink/purple one did start to bubble a bit at the bottom, but I didn't put a plate under that one. I had a mint plant in one and a flowery plant in the other. you couldn't see the white line at all. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching
those were very pretty. im sure ur mil will love the ones u did for her! did u seal the inside/outside before the priming? and hows it working for the plants? i was looking & lowes yest. & thinking i'd do the outside of the saucer too! very, very pretty!! 😄😄 💖💖
I did not seal and there is some discussion about this in the Facebook group post I made about this video. I would recommend it as these pots are porous but I am interested to see if my 2 coats of white priming will do anything. I was going to put some flowers in the pots, not anything we are planning on eating.

You don't finish paint with anything?
Could I ask a question, not about this video? Sometimes I use a canvas that has areas that refuse to accept the paint Should I clean it first, with alcohol, maybe?If not, what else can I do?
It could be too much silicone and it's hitting the canvas before the paint is in areas, forming the patches where there is no paint.
Do you recommend coating the pots with a sealer and which one?
There has been a lot of discussion on thsi in the facebook group. I didn't seal these. I have put flowers in and have been watering them and the house paint is holding up nicely
