Eileen Blair You're welcome Eileen. Spar varnish is finally ready in hardware stores so you don't have to go to a Boat showroom to buy it. (at least here in the US) It really holds up well out in the elements. :)

@patioelf: Thank you for your great visuals and explanations. Here in Michigan anything left outside in the elements is subject to a beating, but I can see how your weatherproofing techniques might withstand all save our hard winter (would move your nice pots inside during that time)! Sound advice, excellent tips, inspiring advice. Many thanks. Please continue to post. By the way, your work with the decorative napkins in particular is very cool.

Those pots are gorgeous!!!!! I do have 1 question about the varnish and its effect on the plant.....does it chemically hurt the plant's growth? I have a new greenhouse room to decorate and painting pots is a priority! I want to sit in a warm, cozy plant filled room in the middle of winter....a dream come true!!! Thank you for sharing this beautiful tutorial with us. I will look forward to more of your channel!

Sue Bryant Hi Sue! I am with you! A lot of people have asked me to do a video on weatherproofing these, maybe once they see this they'll say -I'll just go buy one that's already weatherproofed - usually kiln fired or just not clay. These are outside now with flowers in them but the next video on clay pots will be about the ones we keep inside. :)

Thank you for the detailed video. I’ve learned a lot from your previous videos. I’m kind of stuck on a clay pot decoupage project and I don’t want to ruin it at the final step. I sealed pot with Patio Paint, then used Mod Podge Dishwasher to apply tons of pictures (laser printed). Coated with same Mod Podge X5 thin coats. (Might’ve been x4 or x6, lost count.) It’s been 8 days. I want to apply a final waterproofing coat. Mod Podge Dishwasher directions say cure 28 days. This won’t ever see a Dishwasher and it’s a gift for early May. Can you recommend a waterproof method and can I apply it now? Thank you for the time you take to read this. And advice!

Thanks to you, I just got an idea. We let someone borrow my son’s mobility scooter and they scratched it up. I was not happy and planned to replace the cover. I think it would be even better if I decoupaged his favorite team, Nittany Lions and/or some other things he likes. Now, I know how to prepare it. You know what? He has dozens of ribbons from Special Olympics. Maybe . . .
Only one really big problem - the cover is plastic. Hmm. I’ll look at some of your other videos.

Hi Patioelf. This tutorial is really good for some summer time creativity however if you could tell me how do you bake them in the oven (as I've never done anything like this before) it would be of great help. :-) Love your videos. Keep posting.

    • @patioelf
      @patioelf  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Gargi Tarafdar Hi Gargi! I use Mod Podge which is good to use in the oven. You decoupage your item, then set it in your oven-turn the oven on and set it to 170 degrees. When it reaches 170 turn it off but leave your project in the oven until it cools off. (about an hour)
      I hope this helps!
      Thank you,

Sorry new question! To oven cure, you said 350 degrees was too hot and you used 300 degrees instead. Later in video, 170 degrees was used. Is the 170 degrees also in Fahrenheit? Because 170 Celsius = 338 Fahrenheit. I’m going with it all being in Fahrenheit. Ok I’ll stop thinking too hard. Thank you for a great tutorial!

These are so beautiful and are amazing decorative pieces in and outside the home! Thank you for sharing and all your great tips. Just one question, is the oven temperature in degree Celsius or Fahrenheit?

Can I ask, why do you put the painted pot in the oven before you Modge Podge the pictures onto the pot? I have decoupaged several terra cotta pots with napkins or die cuts. Then sealed them with a spray sealant. I don't understand the purpose of putting the painted pot in the oven and then proceeding to decoupage. Thanks I love the idea of decoupaging the pots. I like the results when I've done my own pots.

Excellent video! Thank you! May I ask why do you seal the inside of the pot too?

Hello Anna, if you don't seal the inside of a terracotta pot, the water from the plants will seep through the pots and eat away at your work from the inside out. :)

JustBySoco Hi- sorry I don't make that more clear, I mean to just put your work inside of your own oven that has not yet been turned on. You want the item you're working on to heat up at the same time as your oven. :)

Patti, these are beautiful, however, it does require a bit of processing to create. I wanted to ask you, the Spar paint/water proofing, would I need to cover the outside as-well-as the inside? Thanks.

Antoinette Lee Yes Antoinette, you would need to cover both inside and out. (and thank you!)
