What a beauty with the right $$$ it could have been restored. I could just imagine sitting on my sofa by the fireplace listening to my vinyl collection.
It's a pity nobody was going to restore that! It must have been really lovely in its day! I grew up in the 60s and I saw plenty of houses like this. I can imagine kids playing in the backyard as Mom & Dad grilled something up on the patio. The house would ring with happy voices.
i grew up in a 1962 split level. This is a great example of a midcentury home. Has several issues that today's home buyers may have an issue with. 1, it's not that big, compared to the homes we could see across the street. 2, the kitchen is small, and no formal dining/eating space. 3) no basement. 4) one full bath. And the issue my mom hated was that tall ceiling in living room. We had a cathedral ceiling and mom hated that all the heat went up there.
At the 5:00 minute mark,, I've got that same fridge at home, aside from the layout on the door being a little different. General Electric. If I read the date code properly, ours was made September of 1959. It's an absolute gem of a fridge/freezer. We defrost it regularly keep the coils clean in the back. It never asks for anything, except a little more electricity (not horrendous), and it has never broken. We were given it in 2005, and the family friends who gave it to us got it from a neighbour in the 1980s. They certainly don't make them like that anymore.
Mid century modern that’s what you call this design. Definitely unfortunate to see a house like this with so much history being demolished. History in the sense of the way it’s designed.
Poor old place. This reminds me of a house in the neighbourhood when we lived in Thornhill. Keep up the great work. Always ready for the next adventure you show us.
That fridge looks like the one we had in the 70s. It was really fancy and huge. The shelves turned and it had a foot pedal to open the doors if your hands were full.
Awesome bathroom! So retro!! Brings me back to a great time. The tape on the wall I’m guessing was to hang pictures but most people remove the tape once the nail is placed. Odd looking for sure. Great house. Hate to see it will be gone soon. Thanks!
I like this house. So much character and possibilities. Like the lay out. Love black bathroom with shiny wallpaper. Yellow bath with blue fixtures leave as is except change the wallpaper. Fire place is not a plus for me, but that room is great with all of the windows. Actually, I love this house. But, alas, it's a goner. So sad. Good video.
The tape behind the nails holding the "former" pictures on the wall, was put down BEFORE the nail was hammered into the plaster, so it won't crack. Drywall was starting to be used in the mid fifties, but some houses still had plaster walls. ( there are a few people TODAY who still like plaster walls, it's just very hard to find someone who knows how to do it )
A nearly all original beaut I like alot though the kitchen is a tad too small. As is I bet it's a big pain to heat and noticeably colder at the bottom level near the floor. Must've had bad chimney flashing on the roof for mushrooms to grow on the ceiling. Overall I can understand it's demise. Thanks for the tour Ontario! 👍🤠 Note: 10:54 Milk delivery passthrough near the floor, also visible at 0:11.
Good video but if I was shopping for a house it wouldn't be my first choice. The kitchen is a real let down. Then we have the blue fixtures, yellow tile and brown wallpaper, what on earth were they thinking .😱
Idk, I kind of like the spots of color. I think it’s really retro and fun. If anything, the carpeting is kind of a turn off. Just imagine how moldy it is by now
Smell great like 50's... Shame that this house was empty & detroy for now. But mid century house are full of abestos & it's not just the only bad component they contain everywhere. That was the bigest problem with Housing , old building & factory... But that concern all product , Boats , Cars , Motorhome etc . So if you have astormic acompt of money to disinfect these place , they have a chance , in others way , they are doomed.
The top of the line materials in this house had me fired up for a cool Jetson kitchen, but I was really shocked at how meh the kitchen was! They sprang for the expensive paneling but then opted for crappy wooden cabinets painted olive green and that red formica was not cool like the Atomic kitchen in the other fifties capsule! Weird.
With the right mind, not so much of the money, but the right person with the appropriate design ethos could turn this into a really nice property... I would go down the direction of maybe mid-century transitional... and freak the daylights out of this place. The house is really good bones - but it has its issues - also, if you're going to do a redeux on a home like this house, be mindful the windows are going to be expensive. That said, it's money that has to be spent, because windows set the curb appeal for the home, so as a renovation expense... you just have to bite the bullet on it. With a little vision, and a little TLC this place could be stunning.
What I hate is South. We have a beautiful lake front along the southern shores of lake Michigan and there were some fantastically beautiful homes that were built in the late teens and early twenties that have been destroyed and replaced with ghastly modern monstrosities by rich people with no taste. They want to see whose Tower can reach the heavens so they can have an obstructed view of the lake. Honestly, I wish the state would come in and take back all the land because it's BS what they're doing. On a side note, we do have quite a large selection of mid-century modern homes that are preserved but unfortunately a big problem with 99.9% of them are they have flat roofs which means there's no place for the water to go. My grandfather owned a state of the art mid-century modern home which he had custom built in Park rapids, Minnesota on Island lake as part of fly-in housing community. He called it sky Manor aero estates.
It's almost as if whomever did the remodeling/renovation was colorblind..😮😱🤣🤣 Overall, nice old home.. Just a shame they rase these homes to the ground just to build McMansions or townhouses..

There were 2 bathrooms.
I really like the layout & design! Too bad it will be gone soon. Cool video bro! ❤️🤘👍

Shameful, in the land of opportunity so many abandoned homes decaying away and so many people wishing to own a home...😮😢
I think I just fell in love with a house.

This is mid century, but not mid century *modern* (:
@faithburgess5073 everybody's allowed to have their own opinions, we live in a Democratic Society

That bathroom looks like it was redone in the 1970's because of the faucets and the mylar wall paper. Nice video. Thanks
01:54 Handles at the bottom - perhaps they are for opening the doors with your foot?

Beautiful design. Disgrace destroying it.
This hurts my heart.
What A Blast From The Past... GE Lazy Susan Fridge.... 😳
Very nice place! If only it was maintained

Very nice house. Still in ppretty good shape (sans broken windows). It should be saved.
Smell great like 50's...

Normally I’m a fan of homes if these era …. But I’m not sure if I can say I like THIS one …. Still I think it’s shameful that it is being demolished
Olá boa noite passando aqui para prestigiar seu trabalho 🇧🇷
Why didn't someone save this unique place??? So sad to know that it will be destroyed.
My parents house and one of my friend's houses had the same linoleum, not slate, tiles in the entrance.
The top of the line materials in this house had me fired up for a cool Jetson kitchen, but I was really shocked at how meh the kitchen was! I think the tape helps to protect the drywall while you're hammering in the nail.
Yepp. Looks like that. The near-perfect condition of the original finish suggests that very accurate people lived in the house.

I feel sorry for the house, its screaming make me pretty again. Id love to give it a new life.
I think the black bathroom might be a bad 1980s refit? Otherwise, an interesting house but I don't think I'd want to live there.
Has a,commercial look to it!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
im a huge advocate for preserving architecture - but i would have no problem putting this house down

Deserved to be saved, but worth more torn down.
Nice men
Could be a pull down ladder to a crawl space
