Stumbled on your video after looking for the removal of a wing panel. My Focus is silver and its VRN begins with NL05 too, but apparently mine is a MK1 or as someone else said an unofficial MK1.5 as the front part of the body is a wee bit different to the MK1. Nice video, very clear instructions. I'll go and inspect mine and see if anything needs doing. Someone else also said that these cars with NL05 were used as unmarked police cars in the Northumberland Police Force. Apparently word got around fast!
Sounds interesting. Are you gonna take it? Yesterday, I tested a 2024 Transit Custom. Good van! It was easy to drive and refined. 170PS, 8-speed auto, 36.7mpg average.
If there is already extensive surface corrosion, I would not use waxes, but rather apply some oil, preferably an organic animal oil such as lanolin (Fluid Film, PB Blaster Surface Shield, Lanoguard, etc.). No corrosion converter will completely stop the rust and it progresses slowly through the internal structure under the layer of wax. Lanolin oil is a better corrosion inhibitor and preservative than wax. Wax is more suitable as a protection for newer cars that are still free of corrosion.
Sadly my own sub frame was passed saving. However 'my guy' sourced a replacement, and with it being 'off' the car, the preparation he managed was so much easier & thorough. Should keep the old girl on the road for another few years. Can I assume a future video will be how to hand paint the steel wheels in some nice smooth black Hammerite like I've just done? LOL Really tidies the wheels up which you can see through the plastic trims...
Tricky to say as there are variables, e.g. climate, how much of the product is used, condition of the subframe, etc. I'm just gonna keep an eye on it and reapply when - or if - required. Glad the video helped.
£79 to do the whole car sounds very reasonable. My mate had it applied to his FordJag, too early to tell how well it lasts., very easy to apply though.
That’s the infamous Jaguar Mondeo, perhaps. Lanoguard’s website says the product’s ‘designed for yearly/seasonal applications’ and ‘it should be topped up at least once a year to ensure continuous protection’.
To be fair to him it's the slightly later one with a lot of Jag and then novel as a diesel estate. It seems to last a lot longer than a year but that might have a lot of variables, I don't know. Now I don't think I'd use any solid waxoyl products that weren't semi-setting see-through otherwise rust can be sealed over and not seen getting worse. As I was told years ago proper derusting and paint seem to be the best but far too much hassle for some cars. Lanoguard is at least very see through and can be applied to just about everything underneath so makes cleaning easier which helps with preventing more rusting.
Good work. I did my Citroen C1 recently but used Hammerite Kurust then had the old girl underseealed. Have you noticed MOT stations are giving surface rust advisories out for fun nowadays?
Thanks. Glad your C1 is sorted. I've used Kurust in the past, too. For the Focus, the MOT listed the subframe as an advisory. I reckon that was fair. At least the tester didn't poke a hole in it!
Great video. You caught that rust in time by the looks of things. I hope your treatment gives the car some extra longevity. The Jenolite Rust Converter looks a good product. Aerosol application makes a lot of sense for this particular scenario. Maybe using a straw would let you get right into all the crevices? Looking forward to more Focus content. Have you suffered the imstrument cluster dry solder joint fault or water ingress into boot common issues?
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video. Our Focus hasn't had the instrument cluster issue. As for water in the boot, not really - but you might find the following video interesting. See: th-cam.com/video/RPg2copY2Jw/w-d-xo.html
Hi pal is it still good? I have a 2006 bmw 330ci there rust on 2 places underneath i want to try to do the same to stop the rust does it actually works?
Please don’t work under cars with just a trolley Jack supporting a corner. The thought of the Jack slipping and the brake/wheel hub assembly pinning your arm to the ground doesn’t bear thinking about. Low likelihood but very high consequences therefore still a high risk activity 😮
Thank you for your concern. It's appreciated. You're quite right to suggest caution. However, there was additional support as mentioned in the video. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
@@CarSpyTVOK didn’t realise that 👍 Good video BTW. Gonna use the rust converter and then probably paint over it as well before the waxoyl. Our Mini has a splash guard over the front subframe but it hides the corrosion 🤦♂️

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video. More to follow.
Excellent and well illustrated repair.
Thanks. Hopefully, we've now extended the car's life by 500 years.

Fingers crossed!

Bring video again, have a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend, i am about to take me and cars out to London for a car weekend
Brilliant
Thank you, Ian. Enjoy your trip to London. Yesterday, I was in a Mk1 Transit. Gotta love those headlamps!
@CarSpyTV only 1 problem not such a good beem when you are driving, been offered a mrk 1 transit v4 x yeb electric van still in original condition

@CarSpyTV Yes if we can agree on a price around £8.000 but asking 12

I think it is a good plan to mask the brake disks with some newspaper or whatever to make sure that they don't get accidentally sprayed .
Agreed. That's a good idea, Terry.
I'm doing this on my 2010 Santa Fe, great advice, many thanks.
You're welcome, Andy. Hope the job goes well for you, too.

What kind of time frame will this have for production? Will it be a 6 monthly or yearly re application?
Great clear informative video too!

That must have given it some extra protection against the weather.
Yep. It's much better.
Another very good real world video.
I think for easy and speed of use I would try Lanoguard now.
Thank you, Nta16. I considered Lanoguard, too. It's £78.99 for a standard kit.

Great video! Reminds me my S-Max rear subframe needs the same treatment

@youtube2kwatcher just sold mine yesterday. Got what I wanted.
@youtube2kwatcher Yes. The MOT tester mentioned it for our car, too.

Can you do this on the rear arches or you need different spray? Like bitum or something like that?
If it was my car, I’d happily use the products in this video in many scenarios. It’s personal preference, though. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
I should try and do this on my car. Thanks Stephen!
I'll send you the wire brush!

Yes, still good - but I only did the repair a few months ago. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.
What about the rust on the top of the subframe? Out of sight out of mind?
Top bits done, too. No issue getting the spray there.
Have you any long term experience of this mate? I’m looking at doing my T4 but unsure which brands to use.
I've had waxoyl (in a different form) on a Primera for many years. It's done a good job there.
I’d reccomend hammerite stone chip shield which comes in a red spray can , also for an extra layer of protection have a look at lanoguard!
@@Generalkenobi325 Interesting comment. Thank you.
Out of interest, did this level of corrosion cause any MOT advisories before this point?
Yes, it was an advisory. Best wishes from CarSpyTV.

Pretty much every car I have ever owned has has a rusty subframe. Hope it keeps the old Ford going.

@@CarSpyTV just doing the same with a Peugeot cc. Keep up the good work.
