Spot on jack handy quote. That absolutely would have made the cut. Been awhile since I’ve heard a “deep thought”…. Another great one.

You should have gotten one of those sonic dog whistles... They really work. Where I live in Wyoming, I can carry a shooter. So I carry a .22 caliber revolver. I've never needed it.

You have mentioned comments from other TransAmerica participants about this or that. Where are these comments and intel posted? Is there a forum for current and future riders?
    I’m enjoying your videos!!

@@johnzabelle9944 I read dozens of transam riders’ blogs, many of which are on CGOAB. Also some TH-cam videos. I took notes on lodging options as I watched/read them.

Extra spokes cut and threaded to the right size. Don't weigh very much. Sorry, I am a bicycle mechanic. I tend to carry more repair gear then I will need. But when I do need it, and I have it. Yep, its golden.

I would just skip changing to the tall gears on the downhills, you're pedaling maybe a few revolutions at an already high speed, where wind drag is highest, before having to shift down again. Not worth the wear & tear on the drive-train, and also not worth the extra front chain ring/deraileur weight for some. Just coast and let gravity do its work, it's not a race anyway.

My thoughts are I don't do it for finishing more quickly, but those revolutions in 27th gear are much easier to spin than the revolutions in 1st gear! I would happily do whatever the evidence states is the best approach.

Its the Roller Coaster effect, and its not a fun one. All you can do, is look ahead and keep going.
