Overnighter - Helikon-Tex Matilda Pack, Essential Kitbag, E&E Pouch

- For a long time I have been struggling with finding the right #bushcraft backpack for carrying my basic gear load. Several types of military assaust packs that I have used over the years proved to not be spacious enough even for a day trip let alone for a one or two day #camping trip. I was always having to attach multiple pouches and strap items to my packs, therefore, adding more weight and discomfort. Recently I began searching for a new bushcraft pack online and I found the bushcraft line by Helikon-Tex.
The #MatildaPack by Helikon-Tex has completely solved my storage issues for the basic gear that I carry. The pack is very comfortable and constructed with quality materials. I also added two sides pouches, the Essential Kitbag and the E&E pouch, both made by Helikon-Tex. I am extremely happy with the setup.
One more item that I wish to have soon is a good quality down top quilt or sleeping bag that is light weight and packs down small enough to store inside the Matilda pack or just under the lid. I want a quilt or bag that will serve as the one single piece of gear that keeps me warm down to 15° F if not below. That would complete the gear items that I consider to be all I need for any situation.

Great review. I have the exact same setup and I love it! If I had to do it over again though I would just get two E&E pouches instead of the Essential Kit bag. I also have the Numbat chest pack and it goes really well with the pack.

Good vid. For grilling the burgers, a sheet of aluminum foil under the cooking meat--and cheap tongs to handle the meat--make things a bit easier.

Thanks for the video man, much appreciated. 100% buying this for the coming winter, I've bought chinese bags on amazon that looked nice but the stitching and zippers are absolute garbage and fail under and kind of stress. You get what you pay for when it comes to backpacks.......usually

Yeah, im not going to knock the pack but there are better packs. It is a nice pack but limited. Depends on what you're doing i guess.
I've got one. If you need lifters, you're overloading.
Liking the new pack.... And the Molly pouches well made....looks like someones done gone to your camp... Good review, we have differnt styles in packs... I do like the double closer in the main compartment to keep out the rain... Who were you looking at off to the side.... Also like the ending

I have a medium and large Alice pack but that one is definitely peaking my interest. It looks almost big enough to be an inch bag.

I saved up, got myself a Berghaus Crusader 90-20. Beast of a pack, my MSS fits in it, sleeping pad has to ride on the outside, but, that goes with any pack really. 70lbs worth of gear, but, since it is my emergency bag that rides in my vehicle, that is not too much of a problem.

Very nice setup with the pouches - I'm thinking of the same deal. Does the hip belt effectively carry any load? It doesn't look like it would be effective with the short back length?
the hip belt does its job and keeps the pack weight off my shoulders. it is sturdy and with the molle webbing you can add many options. I have never removed the hip belt. I don't feel the need to do so. thank you! I appreciate you watching!

That is an excellent idea. I will try that and get back to you!!
A 5 gallon bucket does not fit into the opening of the pack properly. it does not fit all the way down to the bottom of the pack. I would not recommend stretching the drawstring at the top of the pack to cram a bucket all the way down. It would be nice if it fit like a glove but it doesn't. Even if you managed to stuff the bucket all the way down into the backpack the biggest factor is that the lid of the pack will not cover the top of the bucket and to close the.pack. i hope that helps.

I’d like to get a jacket in Adaptive Green, it’s a shame only Helikon-Tex uses this color.
Great but scarce colour AG , not sure on jackets but i"m sure Direct Action offer this on their backpacks :)
@@ccmogs5757 I did get a Helikon-Tex jacket in adaptive green, and it’s probably the most versatile color for concealment. Ranger green is close, but that often seems too dark. They make quality stuff at excellent value.

I'm pretty sure the Pathfinder bottle will fit . The pouch has room to flex outward .

Are the three exterior bags removable?
No. They are sewn onto the backpack.
Is the pocket inside not for the water bladder?
A water bladder might would go in it but it would be tight.
It is indeed for the water bladder. Thats why it has the tube slits at the top on both sides for managing the water tube externally to the pack
How much does your pack weigh with that load?
Around 20 to 25 pounds. If I'm really going to take my usual load with a sleeping bag that 8 strap to the pack and a good tarp plus water we are looking at 25 to 30 pounds easily if not more.
What color is the essential kitbag?olive or adoptive green?

How waterproof is the cordura on this bag please?
Its like most cordura. A little water resistant but once it's exposed to water for a length of time i will be soaked.

when I got my pack I sprayed it down with 2 light coats of kiwi silicone gear waterproofing spray. Letting it dry in the sun between coats. I then purchased a medium backpack cover which turned to be slightly too smal because of the added pouches on the sides. There are many backpack covers to choose from on Amazon and are easy on the wallet. I definitely recommend a large cover to accommodate for large pack loads and pouches.

Gallon ziplock bag, burger patties in individual 1 quart ziolock bags inside the gallon ziplock bag with ice cubes. Stuff the whole thing into a dry bag.

yep - 10week trip in Alaska interior (summer) with the large alice and frame, now thinking about the medium w/o frame for a Continental Divide Trail section hike. alice gear is the best i've ever owned/used.

I had the straps up tight. That's just how that pack is. Might not be the pack for you.
