- As hip hop fans, we were definitely skeptical when we first pressed play on "Faithfully" by Journey. But we have to admit, we were pleasantly surprised by how great the song is! The keyboard-driven melody, coupled with Jonathan Cain's heartfelt lyrics, really spoke to us. The lack of a traditional chorus only added to the song's unique charm. It's easy to see why this is one of Journey's most recognizable and enduring hits. While "Faithfully" may not be a typical hip hop track, we can appreciate the raw emotion and musical skill that went into creating it. We'll definitely be checking out more of Journey's music in the future. "Faithfully" has won us over!

Steve Perry is the GOAT of singers! He will never be replaced. He is a National Treasure and the VOICE!!! Before there was auto tone there was the talent of Steve Perry
The good old days when people actually sang! Miss the 80s
Damn right❤love it
Steve Perry( one of the greatest technical voices in the history of music ) singing " Mother/ Father will absolutely blow your mind ( Live version ). I promise you !!✊🏾💯
Yes, yes, yes!!!!
Yas Yassss and yasssssss
@tonygourdine512. Dude, you ain't lyin'!!
Mother/ Father...Last 15-20 seconds of the song is mind blowing..it's all Steve and he sounds angelic!
It’s nice to see someone else who loves this song as much as I do, this song is awesome.
Fun fact: People always assume that the lead singer Steve Perry wrote this song. Actually the keyboard player, Jonathan Cain, wrote this song about the challenges of being a married man on the road in a rock band.
There will never be another voice like Steve Perry.
Being faithful was and still is the lifeblood of separated/deployed couples, and they took up this song back in the day.
Steve Perry (The Voice) is Portuguese, with Journey from '77-'87' & "95'-'98. He went back to full-time singing in 2018. The filipino singer didn't join Journey until 2008.
Steve Perry was “the voice”. Had soooo much range and power. One of the most beautiful love songs ever written and sang. 😊
One of the greatest arena rock bands of all times. I suggest 'Lights' and 'Lovin Touchin Squeezin'.
Thanks for the heads up. We are new to Journey besides obvious hits
Those two songs are hot!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes and yes!!
Wheel in the Sky! Most underrated Journey song.
Steve Perry is the VOICE!!!!
❤❤❤❤
Steve Perry has said that Sam Cooke was a huge influence on him. You definitely can hear it.
JOURNEY:
"Wheel In The Sky"
"Patiently"
"Winds Of March"
"Sweet And Simple"
"Where Were You"
"Lovin' You Is Easy"
"Walks Like A Lady"
"Do You Recall"
"Lights"
"'Feeling That Way/ Anytime"
"Stone In Love"
"Edge Of The Blade"
"After The Fall"
"I'm Cryin''
Thanks for the background. Sam Cooke is a legend
AMEN!!
Mother Father live in Houston is stunning
They share a birthday as well.
@@thisisitreactions check out Wheel in the Sky...I think it's one of their best.
One of the top love songs ever
This is early 80's (1983) ....... one of the greatest voices to ever sing. Steve Perry AKA "The Voice" . IMO the 80's had the best music ever...... Great reaction guys !
Great voice
Song released in 83. Journey is a 70's band that kept recording and touring into the 80's.
People seem to forget that bands like Journey, Van Halen, The Cars, Blondie, The B-52s…began releasing albums in the ‘70s and lump them into the decade of the ‘80s…I don’t.
Absolutely the 80s had the best music. I was born in 1981 and miss the 80s so much!
And don't forget Foreigner's I Want Knoe What Love Is". Georgia Mass Choir made a Gospel version.
Journey is still my favorite band to this day. I saw this very Frontiers Tour in 1983 in my hometown. They did 3 back2back sold out shows. They were massively popular back then. The song “Don’t Stop Believing” was inducted into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry just recently in 2022. This means that this song will be held there on the registry for 1000 years. This makes this awesome band and their music truly timeless. You really should react to Mother Father Live in Houston 1981. You will not be disappointed. Journey On.
Know it's nice to have a history with a band. Dope
Steve Perry is journey. Journey will never be journey without Steve Perry.
No matter how many comments you get on this band they are by far one of the best bands ever
The guitar player his name is Neil Schon got his start with the band Santana.
Steve Perry has the best voice! He had to be replaced after getting a critical hip surgery and couldn’t physically tour anymore.
Journey one of the best bands
Steve Perry just has one of those one in a generation voices! They have a huge list of hits!
When I was a kid in the 80s, I thought it was hilarious that Journey made a song called “Oh, Sherry.” If they got married, she would be called Sherry Perry. LOL.
Journey and Steve Perry are SO MUCH more than Don't Stop Believing! Keep listening it will all come clear how amazing they are!!
This song was called the greatest power ballad ever written and was a major influence for Prince's "Purple Rain". Some Journey background for you: Steve Perry was influenced mostly by Sam Cooke. He brought an R&B / Soul / Gospel sound to the band. Guitarist Neal Schon joined Santana at age 15 and was only 19 when Journey was formed. Journey has recorded hard rock, soft rock, pop rock, blues-rock, jazz fusion, latin-rock and psychedelic rock. They were the first band in history to: 1) Have a corporate sponsor (Budweiser) for a tour. 2) Use live-feed video screens in concert. 3) Use computerized lighting in concert. 4) Have a video game. 5) Create a side business that designed concert experiences for other artists (stage design, computerized lighting, video, props, etc.). 6) The first and only music artist to have a documentary filmed by NFL Films and narrated by the legendary John Facenda... "Don't Stop Believin'" is the most downloaded song from the 20th Century. They still hold sell-out records for several venues across the country from the early 1980s! Their Greatest Hits album (1988) has been on the Billboard Top 200 Album Charts longer than any other artist except Bob Marley's "Legend" and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon".
One of the greatest bands of all time. Still selling out their concerts today.
Not like they used to. In Steve Perry's era they easily sold out an entire concert season in advance within hours. I still talk to younger fans who got hooked on Perry's Journey and they learn he's been solo for a lot of years now. Still has that PDC voice and he's 70 now.
Journey Houston live 1981 Mother Father
In my opinion probably the best rock-band ever!😍
Steve’s voice was absolutely legendary
This man was blessed with an incredible voice. And thru luck or chance the band "Journey" split up in 1998, but after a lengthy break, Steve got back into music again. In an interview he was quoted as saying "I rediscovered my love for music" He just released an album in 2018 including original songs he'd written over the years...and his voice is just as powerful and sounds just as good as it did before. This is one of my favorite song by them and one from the bands early years "Journey - Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' (Official Music Video - 1979)" Enjoyed you reaction fellas, thanks for sharing
His voice is incredible
One of the greatest voices in rock - Steve Perry. Thanks for your reaction.
they were Huge back in the day
I can believe it with these vocals
If you want to see the greatest live performance of all time, check out Journey's "Mother, Father" live in Houston. The musicianship and Steve's voice will blow you away!!
You need 🎧...The music with headphones brings the more levels!
"Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" is a tune that'll blow your mind.
Every voice coach has studied his voice because of his register, tonality and range! You are born with your range you can’t learn no matter how many voice coaches you have you cannot learn a vocal range! Even classical vocal coaches are in a awe of his voice! His breathing techniques, and the muscles in his throat, not as larynx, his throat and his lung capacity you will never hear him gasp ever in any of his music. Amazing.🍷🇮🇹💋
This was the biggest band in the world at one point, and they earned it.
One of the best lines ever written in a love song...
"2 strangers learn to fall in love again, I get the joy of rediscovering you" ...
This!!!
Steve Perry was the voice and could hit any note out there. Miss those days!
Steve Perry was voted as the #1 most influential rock voice in history by Rolling Stone magazine.
Johnathan Cain, the man on keyboards wrote this beautiful song. My favorite Journey song. Check out the 1981 Journey concert.
Journey was one of the greatest rock bands of all time.Who sounds like Steve Perry?
Been loving journey since the beginning.
Two guys....Freddie Mercury and Steve Perry that you can't mistake for ANYONE ELSE when you hear that voice. So unique and so awesome. Epic voice that still holds up today, easily
You should check out their video Mother Father live in Houston1981
Will do
THE VOICE - Steve Perry 😍
According to Prince, this is the song that inspired Purple Rain. You really hear it in the end.
Awesome! A must is Father Mother from Journey Live Houston 1981🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is probably my most favorite Journey song of all time. Listen to Separate Ways, Only the Young, Wheel In the Sky. And Steve Perry's solo song Oh, Sherrie.
Be sure to do their song "Mother Father" live 1981 in Houston
It's on the list
Best live ever!
My favorite lyric of any song “ I get the joy of rediscovering you” ❤️
He holds my heart ♥
perry on lead; schon on guitar and smith on drums - 3 of the best ever at what they do.
AMEN
@@melodyszadkowski5256 👍👍👍👍

Such an iconic song!!
And this is the first time you are hearing it??
Can you post a video when first crawling out from under a rock.... that's a video I like to react to
It is much harder to believe then if I told you I accidentally met Steve Perry in 2000 at a parking lot and chat for 30mins about Freddie Mercury, John Fogerty and the likelyhood of him in a scenario re joining with his former band
Journey started out as a 'jam fusion' back in the early 70's. Neal Schon (like the name Sean) formed Journey with Greg Rolie (like rally, keyboardist) and Ross Valory (bassist). They weren't going anywhere with their music. The record company told them that they are about to be cancelled, unless they find a lead singer!!
Their manager found a demo tape he remembered he had. Listened to it again and had to find that singer!! Talked with him for a while and invited him to hang with the band in Denver, Co. Where this signer and Neal sat together and wrote a song called 'Patiently'. That singer was Steve Perry!!
Neal at that time wasn't crazy about having a lead singer. However, in 1978, they recorded their first album together 'Infinitely'. They hit the radio waves!!! And their rock-n-roll careers took off!!
After that they had alot of hits and the tours were getting alittle crazy.
The video you just watched was from the 1983 documentary called 'Frontiers And Beyond'. It's a really good documentary, where it shows you life on the road for both band and their road crew.
After years of touring and personal issues. Steve Perry needed to take a much-needed break. Where he walked away from the band.
In 1984 Steve put out his very first solo album 'Street Talk' which featured the song 'Oh Sherrie' and his then girlfriend Sherrie in the video.
And in 1986-87, where Steve walked away. He removed himself from all kinds of music. And then in 1994, he released his second solo album 'For The Love Of Strange Medicine", which featured 2 hits 'You Better Wait and Missin' You'
In 1995 or so, Steve reached out to Journey about getting back together. The album is called 'Trial By Fire', which featured their only hit and the song was up for Journey's first Grammy award, 'When You Love A Woman'.
Journey was getting ready for their world 'Reunion' tour. Steve was in the mist of getting himself ready as well. He went to Hawaii, as he was in the middle of hiking. He notice a sharp pain in his hip. He called the manager and told him, he was on his way home and was going to the doctor to see what was going on.
Turns out that he needed some major hip surgery. However, Steve took his time looking around for other opinions. Which took away the time Journey would have been on the road.
Sadly during that time, one of the members called Steve and pretty much told him to ..... 'get the surgery so we can get on the road or we're going on without you!' That right there Steve wasn't having it! He told the band to go on, and to change the name of the group. (that's a whole other story!!)
After that Journey went out on the road with Steve. Journey has had many singers and finally ended with Arnel Pineda.
During Steve's absence Journey has a 'Hollywood Star' and was inducted into the 'Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame"
The next song you guys really should react to is 'Mother Father' from the 1981 Houston concert! It's a Masterpiece!!
love this song ... his voice is just .... his voice is great
I saw this concert in Casper Wyoming. In fact the concert arena being shown is the Casper event center. The tunnels they drove through are just outside of Rock Springs Wyoming. It was a fabulous concert ❣️
I love the line” I get the joy of rediscovering you”. It totally was. I had more than one jersey with random numbers and I was a cheerleader
Do a Reaction to Journey with lead Singer Steve Perry There Escape Tour 1981 Live in Houston, They sound even better live " Stone in Love " " Girl Can't Help it " " Open Arms " " Don't Stop Believin " " Who's Crying Now " " Mother Father " " Escape " " Stay Awhile " " Also Only The Young " " Separate Way's " " I'll Be Alright Without You " " When You Love A Women " " Keep on Runnin, Steve Perry is Called the Voice, He is one of the Best if not the Best Singer In Rock History. Steve Perry Also has his own Songs " O' Sherrie made it to No. 2 on the hot 100 and Foolish Heart made it to No. 15.
One of their most unheralded songs IMO is Dixie Highway. The best version doesn't have a music video like this. It was only recorded live, on their Escape album. Absolutely amazing musicianship, great transitions, and of course-The Voice!
You should see Don't Stop Believing LIVE on the 1981 Escape Tour. It'll blow your mind even further
I was just a kid but my older cousin was into Journey, and would listen to them all the time. I loved all thier songs, and been a fan since.
Steve Perry's voice is ridiculous, man!!! Then. . . one day, the band broke up and Steve Perry went solo.
Journey tried touring with other singers, even singers from other famous bands, but was never quite the same.
Decades later, Journey would find Arnel Pineda (from the Philippines), who shockingly sounded like Steve Perry ("LIKE", but not exactly).
There is a documentary I highly recommend watching, on how they found Arnel (on "TH-cam", of all places),
called "One Man's Journey".
It's hard to picture this recorded in a studio. It is so big and loud. 80s rock and power ballads were made for stadiums and big spaces. I can't imagine this confined to a recording studio
This is the song you would rollerskate to back in the day, get that couples skate thing going on. You are a young dude, checking out the babes, damn. It was great. thats what I remember.
I went to Journey 1983 concert at the LA Forum. They were perfection!!!! You would like the intense vocal range in "Mother Father" from 1983 concert video.
Journey brings me back to my teen years, early teen
Journey wasn't in any of the Rocky sountracks. The band in those sountracks was Survivor and they were very similar to Journey. But Journey was in a couple of movie sountracks of their own like: Disney's TRON, VISION QUEST, TWO OF A KIND (JohnTravolta and Olivia Newton John movie) and later on ARMAGEDDON with Augeri as their frontman.
Steve Perry is "the VOICE" . try listening to "Mother,Father" from Houston , or "Still they ride" from Tokyo . Or some of his solo songs like "oh sherry" , "foolish heart . "missing you" Journey is now just a COVER BAND of themself after he left the BAND .
Loved your reactions!! 👊 Corey, no Rocky for Journey that I know of anyway. The band Survivor had that covered with: Eye of the Tiger and another song Burning Heart. You guys should react to those. 👍
Steve Perry is a HUGE FAN of Motown music and Sam Cooke was a major influence for him! Great to hear all of you pick up on that aspect!
✌️
That song puts me right back in college. Good memories. Awesome band!❤❤
I saw journey in 1986 boston garden!! Legends.
I saw this concert 4-4-1983 in a blinding snow storm in Denver Colorado at McNichol's arena!
O my goodness. They have so many great songs! "Wheel in the sky" and "any way you want it" are probably my two favorites! I think! Always hard to say, with them! I went to the concert, when they released this. The frontiers tour! Largo MD!
Steve Perry (lead singer) and Sam Cooke share the same birthday. Same day different year. Sam Cooke January 22, 1931 and Steve Perry January 22, 1949. Steve Perry turned 74 this year and is still singing. He has a duet song with Dolly Parton being released on her upcoming album. It's a Journey song called "Open Arms." You have to check out this song when he sang it with Journey. The live version is the best. You get to experience Steve's vocal range. Steve and the band sounds better live. Check out their Houston concert and others. As a child, Sam Cooke was and still is Steve's favorite singer.
The best music in the history of the world was between 65-85……real talent…..technology had yet to steal the soul of music……..they will be lookin at your clothes in a few decades as well…..
I saw them back in the late 80’s during their Raised on Radio Tour at the old Checkerdome in St. Louis!❤
Journey was accused of becoming “too commercial”, because the beginnings of the band was a different style. When the singer, Steve Perry, came on board their sound, those vocals were over the top. Later, Jonathan Cain (keyboards) joined and wrote most of the more well known “commercial” music. I saw Journey at least 3 times during the 80’s. One of the best live band, right band, real vocals….
Steve Perry could sing the phone book and make it strong, clear, beautiful and a bit of grit and growl thrown in to keep it interesting!
If you want to hear the real quality of Steve Perry's voice then you have to hear him sing When you love a woman
Open arms they had many great songs and a video game
I always get goosebumps watching Steve hold that note. And when you asked, "Where are they?" as a South FL native, they looked like they were on a causeway near the Keys.
Journey is great. I highly recommend the following: Be Good To Yourself, Only Yhe Young, Any Way You Want It, Chain Reaction.
I saw them on this tour in 1983. Great concert, great song.
So many more to check out.
I saw them in 1983, New Orleans. What a great concert! :)
I was there too! :)
Rock n Soul 😂 I love it! Don't Stop Believing is so overplayed that I cannot listen to it anymore. You guys should check out "Who's Crying Now," "Send Her My Love" or " Stone In Love." ❤️
I always find it amazing that so many "miss" the most obvious here (besides the voice of Steve Perry and the magic that was Journey)...
To think where we would have been had Journey not penned the most beautiful song in Faithfully ... and inspired another young musical genious....
There is a reason why Prince contacted Journey to ask their permission before releasing Purple Rain....listen to the tone, the guitar...especially the solo....
Wowww, I'm a HUGE Prince AND journey fan, and I never noticed this! Even the whoooaaa ad lib crowd singalong part!!
He's one of the best singers ever and was dubbed The Voice by Jon bon Jovi
You guys are my most favorite song reaction review, because you guys have real discussion afterwards.
I laughed when they said “I need hair that blows in the wind like that.”
I had huge crush on Steve Perry!!!!
Please watch the live stuff from Houston 81’……please. Skip Don’t stop believing if ya want, but know this- dude sounds just like that live. I saw them 4 times 81-86…..Steve Perry is a God of a vocalist ❤️🎼❤️
Wow
If you really want to see a show, either “wheel in the sky” or “anyway you want it” both need to be the live in houston 1981 versions!
No auto-tune this is just pure talent
Best slow dance song love love love Faithfully
Steve Perry with his 4 octave range always sang hits. Neal Schon a child guitar prodigy played with Jeff Beck and Santana before starting Journey. Brought in incredible Steve Smith on drums, Johnathon Cain on keyborad and guitar. 4 platinum albums, sell out concerts so big they were all in arenas and stadiums. Raised On Radio had Randy Jackson join on bass. An MTV V-Jay once compared them as America's Led Zeppelin. He compared each members talents as on par with each other, but Journey had more sell out concerts to mega crowds. I don't get the joke reference to Nickleback. Not in the same league as Journey. I have forgotten Nickleback songs but Journey will always stand the test of time.
Excellent fidelity on your channel. Thank you.
They had a song on armagedon ... prince called up journey because purple rain had the same sequence of chords .. Jonathan cain said carry on with it
I LOVE Steve Perry! Y'all had me rollin when you said playing ball... having random number shirts! I did, too. Idk what number I was, but our team was the Chicks...and our rival was the Crickets! 🤣🤣🤣
Prince actually said he got the inspiration to write a ballad after listening to this song. So he wrote purple rain lol
Journey's music video for "Girl Can't Help It" is awesome because they recorded the track live for the video and it features Randy Jackson who played bass for the band on that tour,.
One of the best to ever do it. So talented. ❤❤
He is the jordan of rock just one in a million
Steve Perry the best voice. Love Journey
