I have barely plaid any magic, but a friend of mine wanted me to build a deck and play him, and so when I started doing research I found this channel I can not stop watching. It is so good in terms of quality and effort put fourth.
I have gravitated towards Pirates and here you are, you godly man, making TWO pirate decks available for us to play and tweak out to our own preferences! Thank YOU sir!!!!!! Both decks you presented to us, are very fun on paper, cant wait to build both decks and play them.
I just wanna say I love the content that comes off this channel. I stumbled upon this a few weeks back due to "related" stuff on my side bar. Played alot during the theros block and took a hiatus from tarkir until Ixalan release and I'm glad I'm back! I seriously love this new block! Props on the cool decks you've been posting dude! I have most of the budget list minus the rivals stuff and I'm totally going to build it to play in my local group of friends.
I built the red black deck, 1st deck in 10 years, I love it, it’s faster than a jackrabbit on crack and is the perfect aggro deck for me to get back into magic with. Cheers dude
Thanks for the great offmeta Black Red pirates deck tek. Went 3 and 1 tonight at FNM and took 2nd. Uber budget...have shatters instead of and are, but still did work. Thanks!!
For the budget list, I'd like to suggest Forerunner over Ruin Raider. It still sets you up for the turn 4 anthem, except then you can run 4x Forerunner and drop down to 2x Neckbreaker. Also, March of the Drowned is a great sideboard card against sweepers. One Mana to draw two creatures is nuts!
Hi Dev! I just built my version of RB Pirates tribal very similar to this one. Hits fast and very aggressive, though I did some tweaking to suit my play style. These awesome deck techs earned you a sub from me, cheers!
Built this deck from scratch and it's great. Experience points me towards playing it really as pure control. Poisoner just screws up a lot of tempo tactics, and Warkite Marauder really makes blocking impossible. Was thinking of cutting back both of those creatures to just x3 to make room for Chart A Course x2 on the main deck, but I don't have enough sideboard experience to show that's enough to justify it maindecking :)
Mera goldo if there are deck tech i enjoy watching even if im not playing that particular set, those are yours man. Siempre muy buena info and down to Earth. Love your chanell man. Keep it up
I'm probably going to try out both of these, but possibly going just UB instead of grixis. Also I LOVED and had a lot of fun with your budget mono red dinosaur deck from XLN, you should do an updated deck deck for that with the new RIX cards ;)
If you guys like the rakdos list, mtggoldfish did a similar one recently, a bit more tempo but still very agressive :D I love to see those different takes on pirates cause gives me a lot of ideas and a solid reference for my own brewing, so I think checking them out is worth it :3
Nice lists. I made a mono blue favorable winds pirates deck that was actually decent against temur but the decks post-ban have way more flyers it seems
sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/deckshow.php?&t%5BC1%5D=1&start_date=2018-01-20&end_date=2018-01-21&event_ID=36&t_num=1&limit=8&start_num=8&limit=8 a UR list made top 16 in an scg classic
UR with a splash for Beckett is pretty legit, tons of evasion//can use forerunner's to fetch her so you don't run too much of what may otherwise be a dead card.
David Snedden using treasure makes pirates really splashable. I’ve done alright with 3colors in draft with a couple sailor of means. Dire fleet neck breaker is worth splashing for if you’re not already in rakdos.
Not a bad list, I am also working on a grixis pirate list but I've been gearing it far more aggressive. I tried a similar list to this but each game I felt like a weaker u/b mid-range. I'll post the list I've been working on if you would like.
That second deck you couldn't classify is what most call a "Control/Aggro" or "Tempo" deck. The are usually hard to build and pilot, so they are made less often and harder to classify.
Idk if you have done this, but I'd be real interested in seeing your take on a Trove of Temptation + Makeshift munition control like deck, using all the treasures you get from trove to clear small creatures with Munition, and use maybe counterspells and destruction spells to deal with the big stuff.
Like the first deck better. However for that one i would add Forerunner of the Coalition because it would interact better with Ruin Raider and would filter the deck better
+strictlybettermtg Sir... if it wasn't for the scarab god I couldn't tell which was not the competitive list... That budget list was insane. I loved it and easy to upgrade. Great stuff.
Hey Dev I’m hoping to see your favorable pirates list. I built a dimir one for Ixalan but don’t know what to add from rivals of ixalan other than warkite marauder
I'm surprised you don't have Storm Fleet Swashbuckler in here. Getting to ten permanents is easy when you're loading the board with tiny creatures, and double strike plus effects that cards like Dire Fleet Neckbreaker grant is awesome.
Question about snatchcaster (crapcaster?). When ETB you exile an instant or sorcery. It says you can cast that spell this turn, but when you cast it it goes back to exile. Does that mean you can cast it multiple times? If not, why not? I don't think that's how it is intended to work, but it doesn't give the spell flashback like Snapcaster does, and I can't seem to figure why that wouldn't work.
Dev! Love your Grixis deck list! Just wondering what your thoughts are about using Siren's Ruse? I think there's potentially a lot of upside to using it. Card draw, creature protection and ETB triggers.
Always important to remind everyone Settle the Wreckage targets the attacking player so Stormtamer keeps your opponent from Settling your board. That's more relevant for Favorable Winds pirates than Grixis pirates, but it's never bad to keep UW Control from casting Settle.
I've only watched the budget list, but Seth's version is clearly superior. If you watched the video, you could see how forerunner and poisoner were just insane and playing freebooter main along with the forerunner package gave you more options and more reach. I do agree that Pirates is the tribe that deserves more love, but I'm not sure that budget list is where you want to be.
Yea I agree, Seth's is well rounded and consistent and has better reach. Dev's is just all in and gets blown out by removal,. Fanatical firebrand LOL...no thanks.
I haven’t seen Seth’s video (didn’t know he had done one), but in case you missed it, I said Poisoner was slightly out of budget, but you should play it if you have it. I tried forerunner but found it to be kinda bad in my experience (if we’re trying to go as fast as possible, I don’t think forerunner is the right choice). Thanks for watching though!
Strictly Better MtG I loved the vid and I really like your grixis list. Poisoner is out of range because of Seth's video and his deck from when I last checked is still under $55 with poisoner. I think forerunner is better for the reach it gives you and it allows you to play "tech pirates." I'm excited for more modern content and the modern pt, keep up the great work.
Running grixis control pirates and i think its got serious potential. No one is using siren's ruse. Best card when running forerunner of the coalition or trying to protect your creatures from removal spells. On top of that it lets you draw a card.
Hey, Dev. Any chances that you will upgrade that G/W aggro list from ixalan standard? It got so much more powerful since rivals came out. And it is performing very good at my lgs.
Heading to a PPTQ this weekend with the budget deck (modified), and am looking for a little feedback on some additional cards that might work better vs the big ones that I will see in the meta this weekend. Grixis, mono-red, constricter, etc... I understand the profitably attack on each turn, but I am finding that vs the bigger meta decks I am coming up about 4 short on turn 5 to shut it all down. Suggestions in the form of burn and artifacts maybe? Are there 3 and 4 drop BURN spells that could make up that difference? What about Combat tricks -- I have messed around with Sure Strike, Bucs Bravado and am thinking FLING might be fun (Call the Deck Poo Flinging Pirates --ode to Monster Monster Hunter World Dung Pods). Thoughts ?
Dev. You’re late. Saffron olive and mtgo traders did one of these. However wingo my man!!!! A double deck tech! And my favorite tribe from ixalan. Ohhhhweeee!!
My nerds. It’s all good. I was being facetious. I love Dev. He’s my favorite deck “techer” the format is still new and can go any way. So all the love for Dev and Seth and Wedge. Just play magic and have fun.
that mana is well worth for 2/2 menace, no need to commit to the board from the hand if you can do with what you have down. Menace isn't irrelevant and he can quickly take over if left unanswered. Yes, you may get blown up if the opponent removes your only other nontoken pirate, but thats usually some 1-drop anyway.
No Admiral's Order or Captivating Crew in budget at least? Oh well you know better than me ofc. Any chance you could put up a tempo boros list I think there is good space for that kind of deck.
What if you try like 3 march of the drowned in the sideboard, it can help you cast like a ruin Raider they shocked in the early game and get them extra steam
Interesting, i built a similar deck but 23 pirates by adding the two drop that has raid. Going two colors let me go to 23 lands. I was going to run the pirate vechicle, but maybe Harvester is better. I was also going to run the graveyard pirate card, isn't that like a draw card?
I'm wondering why there are no copies of any of these cards - Ifnir Deadlands, Arch of Orazca, Field of Ruin, or cycling lands. I know you want the Hubs ( although I'd drop them for utility lands ). But even with the hubs, there is room for some utility in this manabase. It feels like somewhat like an agro deck manabase tacked onto a midrange deck currently. I'm also questioning the lack of Abrade in this list with Mardu Vehicles taking a large uptick in the meta. ( also gearhulks, flip artifacts, etc, )
How would you build the non-budget version differently if you had to play exclusively pirates? I don't want to play a purposefully budget deck but when I play tribal I want to be all in tribal and play more payoffs for it.
Hey dev how about a deck tech of with B/G or B/R deathtouch trample with the new planeswalker deck veraska which ever has the most trample either green or red?
I have barely plaid any magic, but a friend of mine wanted me to build a deck and play him, and so when I started doing research I found this channel I can not stop watching. It is so good in terms of quality and effort put fourth.

Never heard of this channel before your Rivals deck tech series. That Grixis list just earned you a sub. Keep it up, and your cat is cool.
The Artwork of Stormtamer fits so well with the "NOOOO" :D
Best MTG youtuber by far! Vids just keep getting better! So many decks I want to build!
Thanks for the great offmeta Black Red pirates deck tek. Went 3 and 1 tonight at FNM and took 2nd. Uber budget...have shatters instead of and are, but still did work. Thanks!!
Been waiting on a pirates list from you since the set released!
The grixis pirates deck looks like a lot of fun, thanks for the builds!
Oh man, I'm definitely trying the R/B Pirates. You're the best, Dev.

Did you say more deck techs! Did you say pauper deck techs!!!😃 Did you say Commander deck techs!!!!!!!😆😆😆
Kevin Hayes I am so ready for some Commander deck techs. Maybe some budget lists?
I'm here for you until the end Dev. You're the man.
I come to this channel for the nagic and the kitty cats. Had me worried until the end there Dev
THAT BEAT though at the start.
lots of fun these guys . and tons of brewing potential . Arr Matie!
I'm probably going to try out both of these, but possibly going just UB instead of grixis. Also I LOVED and had a lot of fun with your budget mono red dinosaur deck from XLN, you should do an updated deck deck for that with the new RIX cards ;)
Holy shiat Dev you the man! That Red/Black tech is SICK!
If you guys like the rakdos list, mtggoldfish did a similar one recently, a bit more tempo but still very agressive :D I love to see those different takes on pirates cause gives me a lot of ideas and a solid reference for my own brewing, so I think checking them out is worth it :3
Love that grixis list. Looks too fun and I'll definitely want to try it out at my fnm
Siren's Ruse is worth considering for the grixis build. It's such a versatile card
Nice lists. I made a mono blue favorable winds pirates deck that was actually decent against temur but the decks post-ban have way more flyers it seems
I can't wait if you do another take on a budget Dino deck, or something about dinos in general.
Wish you also did a U/R but I know it's the least popular iteration of Pirates. I'm building one and it's been fun playing it.
SilverSpades I like the idea of playing amunitions in a U/R treasure and pirates deck
sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/deckshow.php?&t%5BC1%5D=1&start_date=2018-01-20&end_date=2018-01-21&event_ID=36&t_num=1&limit=8&start_num=8&limit=8 a UR list made top 16 in an scg classic

David Snedden using treasure makes pirates really splashable. I’ve done alright with 3colors in draft with a couple sailor of means. Dire fleet neck breaker is worth splashing for if you’re not already in rakdos.
Dimir Pirates is not the least popular version of Pirates.
Ever heard of Izzet Pirates? Me neither.
Not a bad list, I am also working on a grixis pirate list but I've been gearing it far more aggressive. I tried a similar list to this but each game I felt like a weaker u/b mid-range. I'll post the list I've been working on if you would like.
The budget version reminds me of a smaller Modern Minotaurs, especially with that four drop.
2 things:
1- You're awesome bro! Keep up the sweet videos!
2- What is the song in the opening of this video??
That second deck you couldn't classify is what most call a "Control/Aggro" or "Tempo" deck. The are usually hard to build and pilot, so they are made less often and harder to classify.
That new intro music
11:43 nuuuuuu
RDMANGLE-YT someone should make this into a dubstep
The best part of the video
I hope this grixis list catches on so Dinosaurs w/ Galta will have a place
Idk if you have done this, but I'd be real interested in seeing your take on a Trove of Temptation + Makeshift munition control like deck, using all the treasures you get from trove to clear small creatures with Munition, and use maybe counterspells and destruction spells to deal with the big stuff.
Sweet I will stream this tomorrow night. Which one you guys want to see? Or both?
SideboardMTG porque no los dos?
0n3 Guy Dev got me with the double... I wasn't ready... you got it. both it is. So the first double Dev's Deck.
Stop mooching off other peoples channel douche bag
SideboardMTG both m8
Competitive one!
Like the first deck better. However for that one i would add Forerunner of the Coalition because it would interact better with Ruin Raider and would filter the deck better
I love the pirates dino hunter
You're the best, Dev!
Thanks for the deck dev! I’m taking this to fnm 😁
+strictlybettermtg Sir... if it wasn't for the scarab god I couldn't tell which was not the competitive list... That budget list was insane. I loved it and easy to upgrade. Great stuff.
yay commander deck techs!!!
Strategy be *DAMNED* im throwing in one silver bullet nicol bolas!
I always read it as dire fleet neckbeard. 😂
Hey Dev I’m hoping to see your favorable pirates list. I built a dimir one for Ixalan but don’t know what to add from rivals of ixalan other than warkite marauder
I really like your videos and am very grateful for your content. You and your cat rule
Commander deck teck sounds nice. ;)
Thanks for the content !
love the music
Thanks for the budget
Please make a green/white Dino deck tech!!!
Haha

Have you thought about Fiery Cannonade (mainboard)? Being a one-sided sweeper, at instant speed, for 3 mana, is pretty baller.
BG Explore!
Dev! Love your Grixis deck list! Just wondering what your thoughts are about using Siren's Ruse? I think there's potentially a lot of upside to using it. Card draw, creature protection and ETB triggers.
Daring buc
Is a good card, within the tribe build
YESSSS! Girixis Pirates!
Always important to remind everyone Settle the Wreckage targets the attacking player so Stormtamer keeps your opponent from Settling your board.
That's more relevant for Favorable Winds pirates than Grixis pirates, but it's never bad to keep UW Control from casting Settle.
Dev, you spoil us.
Great vid 🍻
The audio scores man!

Pirate beatz!
commander or pauper or even pauper commander would be pretty naise
Commander you say??😎
Dev. You’re late. Saffron olive and mtgo traders did one of these. However wingo my man!!!! A double deck tech! And my favorite tribe from ixalan. Ohhhhweeee!!
Eric Hansen his is very different than both of theirs.
My nerds. It’s all good. I was being facetious. I love Dev. He’s my favorite deck “techer” the format is still new and can go any way. So all the love for Dev and Seth and Wedge. Just play magic and have fun.
it's not better, it doesn't even have fathom fleet captain D:

I would play 1 more lookout's dispersal I have a U/B pirate deck dispersal is really good
I got a mono red pirate it’s really good
and best deck in the format jund gods
Holy moly what was that starting song
don't overlook that Warkite marauder plus direct damage can kill the Scarab God AND keep it from returning to hand.
Cool intro.
I dig it, fast and cheap, like McDonalds but without the guilt
If you do double deck techs, can you please put time stamps for each in the description?
Nice shirt!
No Admiral's Order or Captivating Crew in budget at least? Oh well you know better than me ofc. Any chance you could put up a tempo boros list I think there is good space for that kind of deck.

Make a GW Dinos!!! It's a really fun deck
That music tho. Dude. Where did that intro music come from?
Can you brew a few treasure ideas my boi? There are so many possibilities I'm stumped
i kinda want to fit in chandra twice for beatdown
Back when good ol Kari Zev was standard legal...

lol because there is a cat well I weird deck I'd like to see you talk about is jund gods.
There's probably three builds of pirates this season and one build that just sort of uses pirates.
yea the grixis list is pretty bad, but im having a lot of fun with R/B and U/B
How would you build the non-budget version differently if you had to play exclusively pirates? I don't want to play a purposefully budget deck but when I play tribal I want to be all in tribal and play more payoffs for it.
can you do blue white flyers? and how do you get the grades for your decks? have a nice day

tappedout.net/mtg-decks/grixis-pirates-from-sbmtg/?cache=2018-01-25%2009:10:49.534278
Hey dev how about a deck tech of with B/G or B/R deathtouch trample with the new planeswalker deck veraska which ever has the most trample either green or red?
In the 2nd deck, Iike Strike better than Harness. The reach is so valuable in a tempo-ish deck.
Gotta have the energy to power hub, and Harnessed is soooo good with Warkite Marauder
Strictly Better MtG I heard your points. I just think Harness is way worse without an energy package, and strike is always good.
what about a mashup of both? do you think aggro grixis could work?
Can you please do a treasure deck?
If you make green white deck tech I’ll turn on notifications bb
