This was my childhood Saturday market. We lived at Telford Road, in the early fifties. The fruit, vegetable, and fish stalls are still fixed in my memories. The sights, stands, smells, and noise are a part of me. ❤
The smell of fresh strawberries on a market takes me straight back to Portobello. I have it in the diary to go back and film again in the next 6 months - let me know if you can think of any places additionally to cover. Thanks for watching and commenting :)
Oh my goodness…I bought so many wonderful things in Portobello market while living in London in the early 90’s. I was so happy to see the Tea Pot hanging up on a stall. Thank you so much for this video. It brought back many happy memories. 😍
fantastic, such a variety down there of things to buy. I worked on the street in the early 90's and it still has it's character from then. Thanks so much for watching and commenting :)
Second time I've seen this video... Love seeing all the pricey antiques, not-so-pricey antiques, fake looking antiques and other bric-a-brac --- and of course all the tasty food. Great video and thanks for showing us! 'til next time...
How awesome! Notting Hill. I did not see the movie, but the book shop looks beautiful. But never heard of Portobello Road. Lovely bright colored houses with great history. I just love the beautiful brick walls and the trees and bushes lining the homes. I love that bright yellow cafe. wonderful. The shops look like so much fun. Just look at that cute tea pot at 5:26. Bravo, Admiral Vernon! I always liked Hugh Grant - especially in his period pieces with Emma Thompson. I never ever liked Julia Roberts! Ugh. Loved this video and thank you for all the details I learned of the areas. Yumm Yumm food court! I would love to try the many varieties. Yes, the art work with the x-Ray person reaching for the painting is quirky and cute. So note to self - look up! LOL Blessings.
It's a place where you really don't know what you'll find each time you go and then find something quite unexpected. Lovely coloured houses and always looking up in London, although can cause a few accidents 😂👍😀
P oh my goodness! How did I miss this video? I have to catch up with so many. Thanks for always taking the time to make such beautiful traveling. Vlogs to keep us in touch with all the wonderful things to do in your area
Great video. I started going to Portobello Rd back in 1966 when I was 13. And my parents would visit family in London.I was collecting old 78 rpm records and gramophones. I would save up money from summer jobs and go buy a Edison cylinder machine or gramophone or even old radios and crystal sets. I still have them and I’m thinking of starting to sell some of them. I also collect old snare drums and drum sets since I’m a drummer and still playing at 71. I haven’t then there in probably 40 years and miss it ( and London in general) since I live in New York. I’m going this coming October to see a cousin and hope I have time to visit it and other areas or London that have antique markets.
Thank you so much for sharing and I wonder how much that collection is worth now! Have a fantastic journey whenmyouncome over this month and hope you get back there 👍😀
I went to see this my first London visit ; was SO EXCITED but only saw lots of old clothes! And junk! I was so disappointed bc I had even chosen to stay near the portobello road . I now see you have an entire antiques area. Going back July 1 and def gonna make a trip . (Oh your film is fine to me , not “ jerky “ I’m particularly fond of the minute list of what is where ! I think younger people now expect perfection from AI now not simply a human
Yes, head for that antiques bit and its always so interesting down there. Thanks also for letting me know your thoughts about the filming, appreciated :)
Thanks for a great tour. I look forward to seeing it for myself soon. I collect blown glass animals, tea pots, scarves, and rediculous socks. I'm an eclectic shopaholic! Lol
@@LondonVisited thank you so much I was wondering could we do a video together when I come visit it be so kool and awesome I love your videos be kool to see what I pick out and buy
Hi Ray, what a fantastic idea - would love to do that. If we can sort when you'd like to do that we can go into a number of places and film what you're getting. When were you thinking?
I’m interested in vintage or antique woodworking tools. Do you remember setting tools like that in your meanderings? Interesting video. Thank you for posting…planning to visit in June.
I don't know why it is considered an antiques market because all I saw in your film were clothes, jewelry, food, artwork, etc. I didn't see any antiques in the street area at all. Even the "antique" section seemed to be just second hand clothes. When I lived there in there in the late 60s and early 70s, it was indeed an antiques market with stalls selling nothing else but antiques and bric a brac and the shops down there were also nearly all antique or picture galleries. They seem to be clothes or food shops now. It has definitely morphed.

great video. we will be in london in two weeks and are interested in visiting flea markets. looks like we will only have time for one on saturday. hubby collects old toys, baseball cards, pokemon cards, ephemera, etc. As he has a bit of a challenge walking too much, can you tell me if there is a tube station or taxi area nearby the section that has the arcades, etc? we will be staying out near heathrow. i know this will be a large task to take one, but we also know our limits and would keep to maybe just that one section . thanks so much.
Taxi is the best way as the tube is a walk away then get the Taxi to take you to Portobello Road justion with Elgin Crescent, then the arcades are just up the road! Hope this helps :)

Wonderful Sunday 🚶♂️🚶♀️as always. (Not sure what happened yesterday) I love watching it drinking my coffee. If I went there I would have to have unlimited money 💰and a lorry behind me. You can get everything you dream about. I had a raw oyster once in France and it was awful 😫 so I would avoid that stall. I prefer China ware as it needs doesn't need polishing. The thing with the silver is that it's more substantial. I would eat so much too. I like the pastel colors of the houses but not the really bright ones.it makes me very wistful. Thank you for such a great post. Did you have anything to eat there ?
Hi Lesley, thanks for letting me know and I was thinking you must be busy as no comment as usual, but I have just found it in the comments held for review - how weird is that!!!!! So pleased you saw it and yes so much you could get! China is more delicate but a daily polish of the silver would keep it in check :) No I didnt eat there, thought about it but then wizzed to Brick lane to film the Saturday market there for a future video! Glad to find your comment and thanks as always Lesley, Steve
I wanted to see this very badly, but your camera work was so rushed and erratic things could hardly be seen. Just as your camera focused, you were off on something else. It was just all a blur. 😵💫

My favourite stalls are antique jewelry and silver.
don't see people buying all looking just looking some of the houses are lovely thanks for video
Enjoyed looking around 👍
Besides the commentary, the background music was at the right volume and the selection was most apt.
Really interesting look around, didn't realise it was so colourful and had such a variety of shops and stalls.
Thanks Neil, quite a variety!

Love that title, might have to use that one - brilliant! When are you going to the market?
I'm hoping to get to London in July or August of 2023. It depends on how hard I work between now and then! Lol
This market was also in the movie bedknobs and broomsticks.
I lived at Sutherland Place not too far from Portobello. My school was very near
Not far at all :)
pretty useful video. Could you please tell me in whih month of the year it was? I want to gigure out about what to wear. Thank you.

Spot on it, is a shadow of its former self....
At 10:08 there’s a vintage store behind yellow tent. Does anyone know what this store is called?
Yes it's called Goldsmith Vintage Clothes Shop and it's 176 Portobello Road - hope that helps :)
You move your camera too quickly - there’s no point in watching this video
I live here, and ppl filming my house and taking photos is the norm!
Got to ask the question but do you ever photobomb them? I'd be so tempted to appear at the window 😂😂😂 Lovely houses on the Portobello Road....
At 9:22 a banksy is mentioned. Can you give more detail on what that is? I'm ignorant about this and the rats underneath? Thank you

Didn’t see any genuine antiques. Only reproductions and a lot of tat. But the food looks nice.

I wouldn't call this an antique market as much as a flea market.
