I second the suggestion to move the bench to the end of the bed. If you leave it near the door you should put a stopper on the floor to prevent the paint on the bathroom door being marked, as it hits the edge of the table.
I love how positive and happy Anna is about so many pieces. From lights to sketches to bits and bobs, she's always finding positivity. (And she doesn't get upset when Philip shoots down almost everything, lol!)
I really like your ambition to bring modern design into your old house. You are of course modern people and your house needs to contain what a modern person needs. And it also needs to be comfortable and functional for a family with children. So think about what you need as a family when you decorate and fuck all the purists who don't understand that a house needs real people with a real life close to the decorator, otherwise the property will end up as a ruin...
@@cindywiech2675 That bench cannot stay there, it's going to be in the way all day. They should have a matching (or in the same style) taller and not so wide side table between the doors, and the bench at the end of the bed.
Yes! I was going to comment the same thing❤! If their heart is set on the lamp, would it fit on the wall on the other side of the bathroom door? But I think the end of the bed is best❤!
Best cover this bench with books and blankets so it won't be seen.😂 I'm astonished you let him do this to you, every time. Go and buy what YOU want. He shuts you down every time you express your desire. 😮
😂 was not expecting to see that you two have such distinct flea market personalities! 😂 Anna is like a crow, attracted to all the shiny things and Philipp is super serious and hyped-focused. 😂 This was a fun adventure.

It's enjoyable to see the pieces you love and thank goodness, you're both on the same page for most of the pieces. Can't wait to see how you furnish your house. Sooo much fun! Thank you for taking us on your trip!
Great episode guys! So much inspiration! 💫 We would need a container waiting in a nearby harbor to ship everything back home in 😅 Would be really fun to visit the market sometime!
Put the lamp on top of the books ! Seems too short and wide in that spot. Look for a table or small chest to put there. I like the mix of MCM ( mid century modern) and the antique architecture!
Some trivia. Exactly! He should build himself a cabin on the property where he can recreate Tyrol to his heart's content instead of bullying Anna into buying absolutely unsuitable, if not ridiculous furniture and fixtures! Bamboo lamp was perfect for the chateau, with style and warmth. 😢
@moni1383 that's a bit harsh. It's their home, and supposed to reflect their story. I absolutely do not understand people buying any type of house, and then trying to turn it into a show room/museum of period stuff that alot of the time isnt really, but later reproductions, and a zillion petit bourgeoise chotchkies (which is just as middle class as anything else). If that's not your mojo, why would they do that? If a funky little table makes them happy, great, who cares? I'm just surprizef that's what they came home with, bc they could have had Benoit make that, and even possibly from a tree they needed to take down. I live in 16th to 18th century property, and furnish as I like and think works. All of Europe is full of old buildings, there's no rule to try to recreate an interior that doesn't at all reflect how we socialize and live today, just bc it's a chateau. There are 45k chateaux in France, and that's just the ones listed. I'm surprized they veer towards Bauhouse to 70s brutalism, bc Annas prints, paper and fabric arent that at all, but rather a modern interpretation of British William Morris and the Arts&Crafts movement. But it's their little castle of dreams, (nobody elses) and they didnt get it for yt revenue but a different lifestyle for their daughters and more time together as a family, and another ultimate refurb project having done other style homes previously. More urban ones. It's a tiny table, i don't understand people making a big deal of it, in either direction. Big deal.
Try the new bench at the end of your bed as everyone is recommending. Just try and see if you like it. ❤ I have the impression, that Anna could frame some of her wall paper, that gorgeous golden/yellow one will enhance one of your walls in your bedroom. Maybe some white linen long curtains would make your bedroom look cozy and elegant as well.

I worry the bathroom door will hit the bench and then the door will be damaged. Could the bench be on the other side of the bathroom door, right in the corner? It is a beautiful piece.
The plank table is in the wrong spot, you need to place it out in the hall as you enter your room or in the other room opposite the bathroom. Maybe Benoit can cut in center and take out 4 inches and put together in the center.
Nice wood bench but agree it's too long for that space. What about putting it at the end of your bed with a rechargable lamp? Could load it with books, etc.
The bench is too tight in this spot. It also creates a visual line in that space that conflicts with the lines of your moldings on the wall behind it. It does not work here. If you trim the bench then the proportions of the legs to the end of the bench will be off, I would leave the bench as is and find a new location for it.
I’m trying to talk my husband into a trip to Paris just to go to the Paris Flea! No idea how we’ll get items back to South Africa, but that’s a later problem
I love the living room wood corner end table. Quite original and the slightly orange tint matches your other living room table very well and contrasts very well with the lighter color of your floors. Nice find. It would have been great to find a pair of them to place at each ends of your L shaped sofa.
I live in a small apartment but this trick works for me: I have a list of measurements that I keep in my phone of all the spaces (walls, heights, doors, windows inside the frame & to the outside of the frames) in my home. That way if I'm ever out and see a bargain I can look up my reference chart and see if the item will fit. Love that area you showed us through. I can never afford anything big from these types of spaces but they are great for inspiration. There's always a way to dupe something if you look and think long enough about it. You may end up coming up with something new and unique at the end of the process. The lamp at the end- just needs to be a bit higher. Try putting it on the books. Or find something else to elevate it. Definitely too long for that space though.
I love the little sneak peak of the artwork in the bedroom! The larger one is especially beautiful. Everything is going to look so glorious! I cannot wait to see you both continue to curate your space. ❤
The bench at the foot of the bed would be nice and better proportioned. I also recommend protecting the bathroom door from being hit by the bench if you leave it at the wall. It is too long for the wall in my opinion. My opinion only, I think a taller and shorter piece of furniture would be better proportioned to the wall space.
I agree with those who thought the bench was too big for that space. Will be much nicer at the end of the bed. Funny, I have a stash of (12 x 10' long) live edge BC Pine slabs, (British Columbia). I plan to do exactly that type of bench with it. I found some modern cast Iron, rectangles legs I wanted at an auction, had to by the four, which will be the base. . Finding a treasure in unexpected places for a bargain is the biggest thrill,, I agree with you there Philipe. In the end, we all know you will both make your space beautiful. Bonne chasse au tresor.
A suggestion to modernize your 'live edge's bench'... cut off each end, 12 inches or so, and use the cutoffs as continuous end legs. Fun shopping with you!
6:00 now THAT is a stunning mirror! Idk how no one noticed it. It's the perfect blend between antique and modern IMO I also want to say, since you've been discussing your decor style and you brought your Swedish friends, I think the chateau needs some "heavier" pieces (sort of the contrary of what one would do in an apartment). Furniture that feels large, solid, important -which you accompany with smaller ones. In that vein, stay away from glass tops.
That was so much fun, I agree with Philip in that it’s much more fun to find something while exploring for a good price. Have you ever heard of George Nakashima he was an American woodwork / furniture designer? His studio is in New Hope Pennsylvania. My uncle went there in the 70’s he had him design and make two tables for their living room and eventually a dining table and chairs. The table you bought for your bedroom reminds me somewhat of his work. You would go to his barn and he would have slabs of wood from a tree in different wood types, shapes and sizes. He would help with the selection and then create a piece. George passed away but his daughter still creates his style today. If you haven’t heard of him I think you would like looking at his work.
I felt just as overwhelmed as Philip seeing all the options. They actually had that same demilune sofa on auction here in Johannesburg recently. It was stunning, I was so tempted!
The rustic bench would look lovely at the foot of your bed & it's a place to sit while dressing or putting on your shoes! I'd bump into that table coming into the room, I'm a klutz 😂. Lovely shops and inspiring items in the many shops!❤
Liked the tables altho the heavy one, the other door might hit it, good idea to downsize that a bit, like the chunky to that. I did like the orange red shade, enjoy your day as I enjoyed your good shopping trip ! Ty
It's sooooo true. The hunt for a good deal and the doing remodels with minimal help makes those things mean so much more. It is easy to remodel and decorate when you have millions you can throw at it. I love when I can do almost as good of a job for a fraction of the price.
Just an fyi, glass with bubbles in it is called seeded glass in the US. Love the bench but it looks too big for the space, at least in my screen. I love watching you two shop, you seem to enjoy the same things! 🩷
Introducing large wood pieces will be lovely, remember its youre home. Christina and Carl have a completely different look.. you can bring colours in with large art, that you do yourself... 😊
Taste, availability and age are an interesting mix. As a Canadian, I've seen hundreds of these rough hewn tree trunk kind of tables (often in summer cottages or ski chalets) but it would be a rare thing in France I suspect. Taste seems to be about one's age too. I'm in my 70's and grew up in a house full of Danish teak. Although I appreciate it, I'm not drawn to it now. Give me Art Deco any day! Thanks for bringing us shopping with you.
And in Europe the generation born around or just after the war often can't stand art deco for a reason. But younger Europeans love it. Yes, the natural edge bench is a common site in Swedish interior shops these days. For the rustic trend and wabi sabi followers. In Paris I guess it's unusual. Although I wouldn't go for the same things for their space, It's great to see châtelains avoiding spindly 18th c style stuff. I don't mind actual period pieces but can't stand the reproductions and the over decorated "in the style of" marquetry, chandeliers etc. Overstuffed rooms. Nor do I understand the porcelaine obsession with folks under 65. Staffordshire figurines and stuff give me the heebeegeebees. But alot of art deco is difficult in an 18th century environment. Looks squashed to the floor. My flat is this period and I finally sold my whole art deco collection, it just looked off low down against the base board and wainscoting. Too cubist too. I love a mix of old, new and contemporary though, that's the goal, makes it personal. That and generous inviting comfortable soft furnishings. Sofas you can sink into, with support, nice fabrics. Lighting is always a challenge and should be a priority. I was tempted by all those gorgeous sconces at the markets. Next time in Paris! 🙌😍
Places like these markets are for designers shop for high scale clients. The prices are triple the price because they know they will get that. The best places to shop for 'normal' folks are the little off track Brocantes or antique stores, even reuse and junk shops. You would be amazed at the hidden jems and the fantastic prices, for next to nothing. In fact I find it much more fulfilling to find things that need a little TLC and imagination. Often you can find the exact same things that the high end vendors have for pennies on the dollar. Heck Facebook marketplace, classifieds, are great places to shop as well. Auctions can also get way too pricey and you end up paying way more than you intended, so be cautious.
The bench is beautiful !! Great find. Instead of cutting it, how about if you push it towards the corner of the room, so then you will have one end touching the wall and the other one exposed to the door. Would look nice. It is such a unique piece! Love it 😍
You Might put the Bench at foot of Bed or in front of fireplace! Someone's going to hurt their knee or shin! That red shade was a beautiful Pop of color, put a stack of art books under it to raise it to a height you need !(put a slender table with just a lamp on that wall it will lend to the elegance of the room! Always fun following you and Thank You
I would zone out in a market like that. Anna could do a series of abstract lino prints, or make stamps and do a scene. I made a cityscape with stamp blocks once, was quite fun and looked great. Kitting out a whole chateau is quite the challenge.
The bench needs to be at the foot of the bed! Very cool. I saw so many light fixtures that were awesome, but totally appreciate that you both hold off until you find pieces that really “speak” to you!
Oh, was so hoping you bought the danish dining table. that would be SO perfect with the chairs you already have. Also agree with others here that the George Nakashima-esque bench would be perfect at the foot of your bed. great shopping trip guys, thanks for taking us along!
Aw, Anna- you are incredibly talented and an amazing designer in your own right. Stop comparing your style to Kristina and Karl- you have a much better eye for what works. I do like that you don't buy random tat to fill a room but instead wait to find the right pieces. But, I will agree with everyone else- the raw-edged table is far too big for the space in your new bedroom (and too short). Benoit could make something better for that space with something leftover (wood, an old door, anything) from the Chateau. ♥
I agree about Kristina and Karl. I don't know why Anna is so taken with their design taste. I actually wasn't very fond of their house and much prefer Anna and Philip's style. I hope they don't start second judging their choices to more fit what they think Kristina and Karl would do. They need to stay true to themselves and continue on with the vision they had for the château at the outset, because it's been very successful so far and has served them, and the château, well.
I live in the very South of Alabama, USA. My husband, children and even grandchildren deer hunt, duck hunt, ect..... I love to thrift. It's my form of hunting. Finding a good deal is so exciting! Last year we had a house fire and I have thrifted almost everything in our house🩷
I'm with Philipp. The hunt for finding what you're looking for at a great price IS the best part. My home was built in 1967 and we have tried to marry a bunch of different styles to make it our own and by mixing styles, you can really expand what you can put in a room for decorating it. Almost nothing we own is new and it saves us money to buy used and it feels good to repurpose.
❤I would be completely overwhelmed at those markets, although I understand everything was stunning ❤Thanks for taking us along for the ride❤Love from Western Australia ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Change the legs on the raw wood table to the height of the chair rail molding. It would be perfect. I think. Use vintage gold legs from an old church altar. Stunning.
Thanks for a lovely visit to Paris. Wow… such an amazing variety of styles. Fab! Btw….The bench needs to be at the foot of your bed. Wrong place there….. it’s for sitting on, not a table. Love the side table. Excellent buy. Looking forward to seeing a lovely big Persian rug in that room to soften it, bring warmth and to stop the echo.
The bench adds a nice, organic, style to the bedroom. It would fit better at the foot of your bed. A slightly taller and slimmer chest of drawers would look great where you have the bench now. It would give some height, and a place to set the lamp, books, etc.
You want to Move the bench to the window or somewhere else. I had something like this once and it was horrible because we bumped into it so often especially when it was dark 😅
I second the suggestion to move the bench to the end of the bed. If you leave it near the door you should put a stopper on the floor to prevent the paint on the bathroom door being marked, as it hits the edge of the table.
or katty cornered to the left of the fireplace
And a foam bumper on the table edge to prevent shin damage as they walk into the room.
I came here to recommend the new bench to be at end of bed too. Help ground that space with a basket of blankets and a rug underneath.
I’m glad i wasn’t the only one 🤣🤣 i kept screaming “PUT IT AT THE END OF THE BED” lol

Amongst all the ongoing projects it is so satisfying and motivating to finish these vignettes.
In the end, feeling liberated doesn't mean buying log tables. 🙈

I felt just as overwhelmed as Philip seeing all the options. They actually had that same demilune sofa on auction here in Johannesburg recently. It was stunning, I was so tempted!
Wow! I never would have imagined that bench in your home, but it looks fantastic. I actually like the red shade, but they both look great.
The rustic bench would look lovely at the foot of your bed & it's a place to sit while dressing or putting on your shoes! I'd bump into that table coming into the room, I'm a klutz 😂. Lovely shops and inspiring items in the many shops!❤
@CuriousCaligrapher Totally agree-bench needs to go at end of bed. Plus it would be a pleasant sight once entering the room.
Table is a bit big between the two doors. The one on the left will hit the table, the entrance you'll hit your knee...
Stunning 😂😂😂😂
Most of it truly was though! 😂😂
What a strange lumpy bench!
Put that gorgeous bench at the foot of the bed instead!! Would fit and be functional 🥰
The bench is beautiful !! Great find. Instead of cutting it, how about if you push it towards the corner of the room, so then you will have one end touching the wall and the other one exposed to the door. Would look nice. It is such a unique piece! Love it 😍
My thought also
You need rugs to warm the spaces and tie your colors together. They help with the echos in large rooms such as yours, too.
Anna’s stencil/stamps would make a cool canvas floor cloth.
Always fun following you and Thank You
Anna wants, needs, and deserves a bamboo light!
I would zone out in a market like that. Anna could do a series of abstract lino prints, or make stamps and do a scene. I made a cityscape with stamp blocks once, was quite fun and looked great. Kitting out a whole chateau is quite the challenge.
The raw edge table in the blue room is ok, but Phillip’s Panerai is perfection!
I also noticed you are looking at a lot of Labarge tables, some with hooves, some without. I truly love Labarge, but also sans the hooves.
It’s fun how you reach your design decisions. You are well matched in your artistic mentality
I live in the very South of Alabama, USA. My husband, children and even grandchildren deer hunt, duck hunt, ect..... I love to thrift. It's my form of hunting. Finding a good deal is so exciting! Last year we had a house fire and I have thrifted almost everything in our house🩷
I love the childlike excitement ya'll have for the tree bench. We have those here in Texas made out of mesquite trees.
I wish we had a market place like this near us in the US!
those wooden tables including the timber fitted onto a bench base could all be made easily by Benoit?
I think Phillip could make those chairs. They would be perfect with the side table you purchased.
Magnificent home
Phillip needs to try making furniture. The log bench I love and would probably be better at the end of the bed. What a marvelous flea market.
Stunning.
That was fun to watch…. I would have been so tired after all that looking. Two of you look so peppy then again I’m 74.🇨🇦
Every room needs a pop of red, the red lampshade was perfect ♥️
You two should look at designing and building your own lighting, that way you get exactly what you want.
Very expensive market..but beautiful, for sure
Maybe the table would look good as a bench at the end of your bed?
I was hoping to see your finished orange/red chair Anna. Is it a WIP?
Waiting for the fabric to come!
Bench is not good in present location. It is too long.
So enjoyable to watch you guys shopping for your chateau. Love what you bought.
You want to Move the bench to the window or somewhere else. I had something like this once and it was horrible because we bumped into it so often especially when it was dark 😅
How would this bench look in the dining room? It needs a longer wall, je crois. Maybe you can place it in the foyer?
łapka w górę 👍 i oglądamy 😀
