In this video, IM Alex Astaneh is covering the Polerio Defense that also arises out of the Two Knights Defense and is black's main option after white's move 4.Ng5. This variation is characterized by black's move 5...Na5 and right after that move, the position is more in black's favour as black has a space advantage with the central pawn on the e5-square, whereas white's knight on g5 looks quite lose.
The main focus of this video is on black's best responses to white's last moves:
    2:35 8.Qf3
    6:00 8.Bd3
    10:00 8.Be2

I thought this was the Chigorin defense. I thought the Polerio was when white goes 6.Bb5+ black goes 6...Bd7.

Many thanks for this Guided Tour through the Polerio Defense. This was exactly what I needed to get started! Understanding black's compensation a bit better I can now investigate the Polerio on my own (followed by not getting it on the board until I forgot everything, lose badly and start over once again). I am looking forward to add the Two Knights Defense to my repertoire.

(2:23) After 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nc6 4. Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Na5 6. Bb5+ c6 7. dxc6 bxc6 8.Qf3 8...cxb5 may not be the best, but it is perfectly playable. Black can allow the queen to grab the rook on a8. This has the benefit of being very tricky. Example: 9.Qxa8 Be7 10.Qxa7, a natural looking move that pretty much loses on the spot. According to the database, 10.Qxa7 is white's most common move. 10...Nc6 11. Qe3, one of only two squares for white's queen. 11...Nd4. Stockfish has black ahead by -4.00. 11.Qa8 isn't much better for white because of 11...Qd7. White's queen has nowhere to go and after black castles, white has some real problems.

Thank you for this lesson. I've enjoyed it because the two knights defense seemed to me natural and good since it develops knights to their best squares . But I knew no more then 7 moves of the main line, and in my games had problems with coordination of my pieces and I didn't know on what targets look forward.

Great video!! I really love the Polerio Defense. Do you recommened the Blackburne Variation for black? Aka taking the bischop on move 8 and let white take your rook in the corner. According to the engine it's equal, but I don't know if it's humanly possible to get a nice position out of this variation.

@2:40 - 9...cxb5 is weirdly playable going for the exchange sacrifice - I made a video about this gambit calling it the Granada gambit - th-cam.com/video/Z4O-461PhOg/w-d-xo.html. Thanks for the video. I like playing the two knights so this was a good summary :)

In the third variation, after Bc5, can't white simply castle?
