Wow how have I been playing all these years and missed B5! in the opening? And once it had been played I would never have thought (as white) of moving my bishop back. Great video.
thanks, i always wanted to punish fried liver. though i tried going into fried liver but those are too many lines to remember under time pressure. this is awesome.
Hey Coach Kaspa, I love your style of teaching en the way you presented this video. In my opinon, you shud be one of the best chess TH-camrs. Please, can you make another vidio on this defense, showing us how to play the main line with Na5?🙂
@@ceeneedlz3211f7 is covered by the bishop. He said that three errors are Bxb5, dxc6, and Nxf7. The video covers the first two but not the third. When I tried this on lichess, my first opponent played Nxf7, forking the rook and queen. I moved the queen to safety. White took the rook and I took the bishop. His knight was trapped in the corner and after many moves I was able to take it with the other rook. It took a long time but eventually it was a bad trade for white, my rook against their bishop and knight. I imagine that the knight fork would be a very popular response in this opening.
@@alinevennemann1904 If white pawn takes the knight on C6, you have a discovered check, after you move the king, white bishop can take pawn on B5, White is up a pawn..
I may be missing something but Looks to me like pawn to H3 should be met with rook to h4. You can just take the pawn checkmate and there are only three responses by white to prevent the immediate mate. One of them- pawn to d4 only delays the inevitable. After bishop takes pawn white bishop to e3, rook takes h3 check, king escapes to g1, bishop takes e3 check, queen takes e3, queen takes g2 mate… So there are only two responses. (3 if king moves like to H2 or something) Queen or rook to f3 but after advancing the e pawn and forcing the piece to g3 the threat of mate (in the event of queen to F3) returns and prevents queen from taking after the e pawn advanced again. White likely has to take the e pawn which opens up your H8 took to go d8 and threaten back rank mate. Bishop to d6 can also force the queen back to f3 and I have a feeling there are too many possibilities here to not deliver a mate but I could be wrong. I think you could build from that position and I don’t think it’s time to lay off the attack on the king. This feels like a chess puzzle to find checkmate and I think it’s there… I cant wait to put this into stock fish and see if white can stop mate.
Hey, thank you for your suggestion. But you can watch this intro video on the Catalan Opening: th-cam.com/video/iuHrTgb26Z8/w-d-xo.html Or you can simply purchase my Catalan Opening Course here: www.kaspachess.com/
Hello Abdullah, I appreciate your concern. To make this video more attention-grabbing and brief, I purposefully left those kinds of uncommon variations out. This video would become lengthier than usual if those rare variations were added back, which would get relatively few views. However, you can still view the full version of this video by clicking the link below to visit my Patreon page: www.patreon.com/kaspachess/ By the way, Nxf7 is a blunder by White as it only loses a free piece. Our King can just recapture White's Knight on f7, and after pawn to d6, a discovery check by White's Bishop, we'll simply play cxb4, winning a full Bishop
After 5. ...b5 6. Bxb5 Qxd5, what to do if 7. Nc3? The follow-up move is 7. ...Qxg2, but after 8. Qf3 Qxf3 9. Nxf3, Black is on the Defensive mood and all the earlier advantages are seem to have lost!!!
Knight to f2 where do you explain that move????? At the beginning of these moves you taught the bishop moving then the pawn moving then went right to bishop moving back to f1.
You don't hope that it Sounds good 😊 you know it sounds good😉😉😉😉 sells better 😉😉😉😉😉 nobody wants to buy something which we hope to be good 🎉🎉🎉🎉 It's the super awesome cheap deal everybody wants it .....
I have so many videos where I talked less, but they didn't appear to be helpful for my beginner students. Nevertheless, I manage to cover everything in less than 17 mins as compared to other TH-cam videos.

Nice video. This is the kind of video that I liked, teaching the move possibilities as black piece. Thank you. Learned so many things.
What happens if white moves Knight on f7 and takes a pone? You didn't explain that variant. Thanks.
If knight takes.. u gotta take with ya King...

That is so encouraging to hear! Please never stop, keep it up.
This is so much fun, they might make it illegal!
Dark knight trap id tricky
Thanks kaspa!
Thank u caspa
thank you kaspa
There's a flaw at minute 5:34 ... White queen can take black queen when black rook moves and that will pretty much spoil the show.
No, if Black plays Qxc6 we have an in-between move, Rxf1 (check) first, before taking back the Black queen.
Wow..love your contents Kaspa..i subscribed just now..
how do we deal with the Karpov Lopez?
Thank y Kaspa
Gj, I enjoy the great detail, I wouldn't even mind if you went into so much detail that the videos would last hours!

Nice
This variation, the Ulvestad, is analysed in Estrin's book of the 1950s. It's hardly new, surprising or otherwise.
According to Estrin's book, this line was analyzed by O. Ulvestad in 'Chess Review', 1941
