Gotta love how he calls tracing referencing.

Heads up a (reference photo) usually don't mean to trace another person's art work. Maybe draw snoopy with that pose as a (reference to go by)

Would you have said the same if he had printed the image and used it that way? MANY people use tracing and reference images as a starter for their art. Who are you to dictate what people can and cannot do?!

Yes. It's called "swipping". It when an artist traces an already created image and just changes the hair colour, logo or skin colour, etc., then "remix" it as their own. It's shameless and it's not an homage, it's a type of or hack work.
I'm surprised that the director permitted him to use copywriten content for this video.
I'm sure the artist is talented, but it beyond fair use an he should have used originals

Reminded me of Alec Monopoly and I've asked how he gets away with it. Very talented don't get me wrong.

Didn't the Sharpie bleed through onto the original source?

How is it possible to trace someone else's work and call it your own??? Pop artist all seem to do this and call them selves artist.... I don't get how you can do that to someone elses work, sign it and sell it.. Its crazy

fake. copying others hard work is not an artist. and stop making excuses and exaggerating about what you have went through

Not true. Remixing and deconstructing another's work is a form of art. It's an issue if the copyright is in use, but I've seen the other work of this guy and he's remixed public domain images to fun (but basic) effects. See: Felix the cat and Popeye as their copyright is expired in the EU

well i have mixed emotions about that. i am a free hand artist, i agree. but he is recovering from addiction, and can only deal if he has order, can repete familiar things, and he is so into it his art transends the '' copy '', which is pure passion, thats rare. his large paintings have beautiful colors and impeccably surfaces, they have a vibe. but even on just the level of one's own mental health, he lets himself be at whatever level he is at,and just gets lost in the '' doing '', that would be greate advice for anyone who is an artist by nature
