    I love that you compliment the clothes you're getting rid of, it shows you don't have to hate something to know you don't need it.

    Awesome video (as always!). Maybe one day you could do a thrift shop clothing haul or lookbook? Would be cool to see a different side of fashion and to see your take on thrifting and how you would put thrifted pieces together with clothes that you already have! xx

      Since she gets so much sent to her anyway, going thrifting would just add to her excess...but maybe instead she could do a mix of her and someone else’s wardrobe for styling purposes?

    Tip for holding yourself accountable on how much you wear an item: turn all your hangers backwards and when you wear it, turn it back around. In 6 months, reevaluate everything that still has a backward hanger!

      I love that idea! Recently, my clothing rod came away from the wall from the weight of all of my coats and jackets! Definitely had to go through and clear out a few items. I love your tip so much!

    God I feel like such a creep for remembering your wardrobe so well! I found myself thinking, 'I wonder if her Charlie May jackets will be coming up next' and 'I wonder what happened to the stuff she bought in that post Christmas designer sales haul (I think it was a cream quilted jacket and some black and white loafers and possibly some flowery pumps too?!)'.
    Actually, it would be really interesting if while you're filming these videos you could throw in a bit of analysis of your personal buying successes and failures. E.g. what were you thinking/ feeling when you bought it and then why do you think that purchase didn't get worn very much. Maybe it's just me, but I love those sorts of insights!

      Hahahaha that's so funny but I am just the same - I can remember so much of my friend's wardrobes and so many bloggers from reading their blogs for so many years! Yes I will add that in there too, or maybe put that information in blog posts to review each section of the wardrobe? I am very conscious of how long these videos could end up being! xx

    Great video, Lizzy! Fascinating and inspiring to watch this process and hear you thinking through the value of each piece in your wardrobe. I wonder if you'd be interested in doing a video where you edit your collection down to a hypothetical, non-blogger wardrobe - i.e., what your wardrobe might look like if you weren't in a line of work where you were required to receive and keep so much extra clothing. I'm so curious what that might look like! x

    • @maravictorine
      @maravictorine 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be clear, lol, I'm not suggesting you actually down-size your wardrobe to that degree here - just curating a selection of pieces that you already own to show what that wardrobe might look like!

    GOBSMACKED! I bought an IRO pure silk shirt in an Urban Outfitters about 6 years ago. It was on the floor and had a biro mark on it... I bought it for £35 reduced from £350. Don't ask me how... I see to find amazing bargains every now and then. It is one of my most worn pieces - obviously the biro mark came straight out. I haven't looked up IRO for yonks and their clothes are extortionate!! I feel like one lucky gal to have found such an incredible staple piece for a tiny fraction of their normal prices.

    Because there were so many it was hard to keep track by the end of what you are keeping and not keeping so I think it would be cool if you either kept running totals at the bottom for keeping/getting rid of or you could do a grid comp of all of them at the end with a green check or no symbol overlay to refresh what all was kept and what was not (don't know how easy that would be though, just an idea).

    Yay, finally someone that doesn’t insist on minimalism or a capsule wardrobe. I’m more of a maximalist, I do have a color palette and clothes and accessories that are all similar in style, (classic, feminine and elegant), and I love and wear everything I have. I get so much pleasure from my extensive wardrobe, it doesn’t make sense to me to get rid of things I love, just for the sake of having less, but I do go through my wardrobe at least once every season and pass on items that didn’t work as well as expected. I buy good-quality, classic items with the intention of wearing them forever, and have gradually built up a wardrobe I love, over 40 years. Good leather, silk, linen, etc. items don’t date that much, if the style is from the classic, less-trendy end of the spectrum. I do indulge in trends sometimes, but don’t spend a lot on them.

    Good on you, Lizzy! I’m only at the beginning but it’s great to see you follow through on your 2018 musings around sustainability! Not all decluttering means a capsule wardrobe, it just means more intentionality with what you have and use: since you put so much thought into your style and deeply love your favourite pieces in the first place, I feel like a more curated wardrobe will match your state of mind after this. Happy 2019 :)

    I clicked so fast! I woke up in the middle of the night yesterday/today because I for some reason fell asleep way to early in the evening.... Then I started wearing everything I owned and brutally chucked some in the to go pile, I don't even have many clothes and I use minimise principles but don't call myself a minimalist, but uncomfortable pieces have still made it in! Can't wait to donate to a local charity they're good looking/like new good condition pieces so anyone that gets it will be so pleased.

  • @UseLess_dk
    @UseLess_dk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think what you mention about the capsule wardrobe system being limiting is quite interesting, because really you can adjust it to fit your preference. There’s not just one way to build a capsule 😊👌🏻 I find that storing away items like the coloured blazers you mention for example, is a great way to find out if you are really gonna miss them or not. We all change our minds along the way I think 🙈 I have my “in season” clothing hanging in my closet which is around 20% of my entire everyday wardrobe, and then the last 80% is my all-year basic wardrobe with things like white tees, blue jeans, biker jackets and denim jackets, and then I play around with that little seasonal bit as much as I want. Takes away the feeling of being limited while having a great canvas that is (roughly) more static all through the year and that you can then easily update and give a fresh feel with seasonal items 🤷‍♀️🖤 either a couple of new ones or some that I’ve stored away from a previous season. Also shopping vintage and secondhand plus supporting sustainable brands or initiatives (organic cotton tees and jeans from & Other Stories fx) is a great way to be more sustainable too. xx 💋

    I really liked this video, Lizzy! While I don`t think you will ever really significantly downsize your wardrobe (and I don`t think you should, since it`s your work), I have personally downsized so much and I am feeling so happy about it. Focusing only on fit, quality of fabric (no fast fashion) and Love for the items I have has helped me to declutter my mind really, not just my closet. Happy to hear your thoughts on Rouje, I like some of their stuff but am quite baffled by the pricing (130 euro for a 100% polyester blouse) which doesn`t really seem to be in accord with the fabrics (since I cannot comment on the quality, never having purchased anything from them). Looking forward to the next videos in the series!

    I’ve been thinking a lot about your (and my) ethical sourcing/environmental friendly clothing journey. I’ve greatly appreciated your slow and steady pace with it. Such a dilemma for youbwith your job. I’ve had thought though. Would it be possible to ask brands that you work with, maybe ones that give you an allowance to let you “borrow” the clothes instead of keeping them. That way you can show them, shoot them and talk about them and the brand without adding additional bulk to your wardrobe. I suppose it’s pretty much the same thing as me ordering clothing on line then returning certain pieces. They should be able to just resale them. If not they or you could donate them in a number of ways. Even charity auction them at some point. Anyway, it’s just a thought and one you’ve probably already had yourself. Nice video by the way.

    • @LizzyHadfield
      @LizzyHadfield  5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      This is such an interest comment because I do know of some blogger who do this and also buy pieces to shoot and return, and it’s something I’ve never really felt was a very honest approach the blogging. I am essentially encouraging you all to spend money a lot of the time, so my recommendations are important, and nothing backs something more than a) spending your own money on it or b) in the case of my work, accepting a gift and reviewing honestly which often means wearing it as much as possible and being able to wash it. I hope this makes some sense because you are so right it would tackle some issues of sustainability, but would maybe seem inauthentic in other ways xx

    • @melbombel
      @melbombel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      For me, I would rather see a blogger wearing the same items over and over again than someone who wears something once to flog to me and you never see it again, And also seeing how to style items in different ways and for different seasons. But I’m more interested in personal style rather than trends. And I do think you do this really well. I think it’s an important discussion though, one of which more and more people are becoming aware of and asking for, which is fantastic.

    • @painsucks7993

    Yes Lizzy, I'm loving the ruthlessness! I think this a great series idea, I'd love to see the end result of your wardrobe. Love most of what you kept, I think you know exactly what sort of cut flatters you, the pieces are brilliant.
    Just one positive criticism, maybe you could consider doing this with a DSLR camera instead of a vlogging one, so we can get a sharper image and best exposure.
    Nice work! 😊

    Loved this Lizzie. Have to say if I did the same vlog it would be 1 min 25 seconds long as I own a denim jacket and a suede jacket. That's why I'm not a vlogger.😂
