the fact the dabi actually did have an ice quirk meaning he was the child endeavor wanted in the first place ☹️ if endeavor would’ve just tried spending more time with him everything would’ve turned out so different
I fee like people who say this had muddied memories from Toya's backstory because his problem wasn't that Endeavor didn't spend time with him. Endeavor WANTED to raise Toya to be a hero and was setting him up to be a hero when he noticed his Quirk was hurting him. He tells him to cool it on the training but Toya insists on upping the ante with his fire until he finally destroys himself on Sekoto Peak. The level of Quirk usage required to pull Rei's frost Quirk out was going to destroy Toya no matter what. No amount of slow training was going to make it awaken.
@ yes but no. time had a lot to do with it. imagine being a child and being told your whole life that you’re going to make your dad proud and become strong. only to have it all ripped away from you because of something out of your control. and now the person you look up to most, doesn’t have the slightest interest in you. Endeavor completely disregarded touya after finding out he can’t use his fire to the best of his ability. Making touya feel like trash thrown out by the ONE person he wants recognition from. training maybe would’ve never unlocked his ice quirk sure, but if endeavor just spent more time with him in general instead of acting like he no longer mattered, touya might’ve not felt like he had to do extremes to just get a sliver of his dad’s attention. attention that he USED to get easily when it was expected that he was going to become strong.
Best episode of the season by far. The conclusion to the Todoroki story was absolutely perfect

"this is where all the animation went" oh yeah like the whole season did not have consistently good animation
