We are opposites. I looove the illustrations on the evernight book! and the bits from the august illumicrate are right up my street

I think the reason that the August book was a bit early for the spooky vibes/theme was because they actually had a different book slotted there originally but then due to events they had to replace it more last minute and find a replacement and Mistress of Lies was that replacement.
I thought that was the May box?
@@Wanderness Oh you know what I think it was! I think that was the month! For some reason I just had it in my head that Mistress of Lies was the book slotted in late to replace it, not sure why 😅

I'm so glad you're back! But also it's good that you took time off when you needed it ❤ I read Eyes are the best part during my time off work and it was such a quick read. But I must say I had to skip parts of certain chapters as they were very vivid and graphic, but it was a very good book with a not-that-slow descent into madness. The Phoenix Keeper was quite a good read with a lot of space for character development. Mistress of Lies though, as much as I loved how the book looked and felt, it didn't live up to my expectations unfortunately. But I think it's still worth reading just for the vibe and the romance!
I've noticed that The Eyes are The Best Part is on Spotify so I'm going to sell this copy and listen to the audiobook, hopefully this month. My expectations for Mistress of Lies is actually really low but I'm happy to read for the vibes
I absolutely adored the Phoenix Keeper, one of my fave reads of 2024. Highly recommend if you like cosy fantasy that just makes you feel good 🥰 x

I think Nevernight is the best subscription when it comes to customisation. Like hands down. I skipped it because I do get creeped out by eye stuff XD but they knocked it out of the park for sure.

IC have been doing SUCH a good job with their design choices! I personally feel like they put more love/thought into their customisation choices than FL have in recent years.
It’s a shame a lot of their book picks haven’t appealed to me personally this year, I’ve skipped over half of them 😢. But I guess their skip policy is so good it’s not a problem, I’d hate to have to cancel. I adored the Phoenix Keeper and Mistress of Lies Boxes.
Evernight is currently my fav sub. The redesigns are next level, they always really surprise me. Also, being quarterly is perfect for me as horror isn’t my main genre.🩸
So happy to see you and your content are back!! I loved your reactions to all of these books, I read "The Phoenix Keeper" ARC before it was published and it is such a cozy, fun read with a genuine MFC! I hope you love it when you get to it as well!

I understand they didnt have much time with the May book but the endpapers are gorgeous! I also really love the June book, i just finished reading it and i really enjoyed it!
I also love the look of July and August books. I was stunned when i saw the August book! I can't wait to read them!

Mistress of Lies sounds amazing I have to say. I adore the edges and the hardcover is absolutely gorgeous, well impressed (finally, with the exception of Phoenix Keeper) 2 most decent books out of the year so far) xx
The September book I wish I had also got as I absolutely love the hardcover, I might actually try and get this one from Vinted too xx

With the glasses case if you don’t want to use if for glasses as it is flimsy use it for bookmarks xx

Completely agree, I would be happier with a book only subscription but for like a tenner more I might aswell get some items (is my logic)
I love the surprise element of the goodies in the fairyloot ya box. I think it depends if they will continue their tarotcards and you lose the surprise factor for 2 items. I do like the idea of it overall.
I wish they would add items to the adult box and have home and stationary things 😂

What did you think about the june book? I personally loooooved the edition, i am a sucker for a good printed naked hardback and that one was sooo pretty! Im so glad illumicrate has been going in that direction, i was getting a little tired of the foiled naked hardbacks, they started to look too similar to me :(
Loved the June book but I thought the box was let down by the items. I really like this new naked hardback style too, would be happy for a few more like this, but then I think i would like to start seeing something new

I do also agree they might get repetitive! But i think the mix between some printed art and some foiling like they’ve done in the phoenix keeper and dark and drowning tide could keep it from being so! (dark and drowning tide could have used something in the back too tho)
That final book was too much, briefly thought about eating eyeballs and heaved 😂 Loved the whole July box and the Illumicrate site still has stock, so grabbed a box for myself

If you haven't read many horror books, The Eyes are the Best Part might be the right amount of icky and creepy. If you are a fan of horror and/or strong characters, I strongly suggest looking for another book to read. Personally, I was extremely disappointed with the clichés and flat characters. This book left me craving metaphors (even though I prefer simple prose) so I could finally read other words than 'blue' and 'eye'.
I don't wanna spoil the book for anyone though. Many people seem to enjoy it. And the customizations are so nice.
That's really interesting! I have read mixed reviews about it. I actually haven't read that many horror so I'm looking forward to trying it, I haven't quite found my tolerate level yet with horror, sometimes I want more but others it's just too much gore

I have a 3 book only combo sub with FT and considering that I buy 3 books from them each month I feel extremely furious they will be enhancing monthly books from goodies box only. I dare to say they get more money out of my sub than from items' box for which they need to plan and organize all different items and artworks and yet book only subscribers are always missing out - no monthly bookmarks, no overlays... maybe no dust jackets in the future either ❤ Instead of making the more cost effective sub more attractive to people and slowly moving away from item boxes, they do the opposite 😅
I actually passed up on the combos because if you wanted to skip a book you skipped them all but it's killing me that I'm wasting delivery
@@Wanderness I'm international, so the shipping cost would be gbp 20.00 per box for me xD For comparison, Illumicrate charges gbp 7.00. So it is better for me to just buy a sub each month and sell unwanted book :< Nevertheless, I hope they will come to their senses and offer overlays to be bought separately at least. I really don't understand, from the business perspective, why they put so much effort in item boxes. I can understand that overlays are easier and cheaper to produce, so they will lower the cost of the box itself. But these boxes per definition are more expensive to produce, store and pack :/ I've been subscribed to the item boxes for few years in the past until I realised I'm flooded with items I don't want, no one wants to buy and are too cheap looking to give as presents. Honestly, overlays are the best idea they've had in a while imho and it's disappointing one needs to receive all other things in the package just to get them. At the same time, I don't see a reason why not to give book only subscribers a choice to pay a little extra and have those included. Sorry for the long response, but I felt like I needed to get my opinion out of my system haha
