It's been an honor to have you on this journey. I didn't make it this time, but I look forward to partnering in the future! Thanks for the excellent video and documentation of the run! This run will go down in history as we broke achievements never before thought possible and could very well set the firm limit for speedrunning in the future. - Enzo
I asked a question elsewhere but since you're here, maybe you can answer--would it be considered within the spirit to have a bike valet who got your bikes ready at the BART end, and another who put them back away at the CalTrain end to smooth the friction of that leg, or would this be a level of interference akin to recruiting somebody to hold a door and delay a train for a critical connection as far as "not allowed, that's cheating"?
@@rwdavidoff I'd consider this as disallowed as at that point you're involving factors that weren't initially involved in the run, like external people. Witnesses shouldn't interfere with the run, and bystanders shouldn't have a bias to behave in any unordinary manner.
Missing the bike drop-off was such a heartbreaker! I imagine you've already re-litigated this, but in case you want the take of a regular user of these who doesn't even know what specific issues you ran into: - Prefer the "classic e-bikes" model (black with the big battery box on the frame -- granted, with one bike available you take what you can get) for something like this, the advantage being that it can be locked without available docks. Doing so near a full station should bypass the $2 fee. Technically you're not supposed to lock the bike to nothing. There are a couple of staple racks in front of the Caltrain entrance. - Dealing with finnicky docks: (1) Lift the bike by the seat while inserting, (2) Slam the bike into the dock (*), (3) If neither 1 or 2 work, check the triangle in front of the bike where it meets the top of the dock, if it's not lining up properly, push it up/down to align it with the dock. (*) I've noticed that the new dock model (as seen on the 4th St side of Caltrain) pretty much never requires slamming, so I've never tried yet. Congrats on the cool route!
I don't know how the record works, but in my view it's like a team sport. Everyone in the team wins even if only one member of the team makes it to the end. Congratulations to you both!
@@alexanderkvenvolden4067 Late September - early October is the hottest part of the year for a lot of the Bay Area -- not for all parts, but say SF/Oakland/Berkeley it's pretty typical for it to get hotter than June - August.
Stumbled upon this by accident having no idea transit speedruns were a real thing. Throughout this past year there were multiple times where I thought to myself things like "that was probably only like 5 minutes off the world record for getting to this gate from passenger drop off at SLC", "that's probably less than a minute off the latest someone's left 여수expo and gotten on the 81", "all these highschoolers walking towards the optimal car to get off to be first in line for the escalator, they speedrunning life and I'm so here for it". I cannot express how happy 16:03 made me as I watched you and Enzo wait at a station for a train to arrive, lined up perfectly with the door, and then run away from that train as fast as possible instead of getting on, and then imply that you did that multiple times to practice the transfer. This is freaking awesome, and I hope I can be a part of one of these some day. Hit me up if you guys ever want to try one of these in Korea.
What an amazing accomplishment! Definitely makes me want to see someone speedrun the other major US metro systems (my DC Metro bias is staggering). I also love that you brought up Jet Lag - I'm now burning to know who your favorite Jet Laggers and what your favorite seasons are. This definitely feels like something the Jet Lag boys would get up to just for giggles.
There are a few people that mentioned DC metro speedrunning in this very comment section! It's hard to beat good old fashioned tag across Europe. I really enjoy Hide and Seek as well.
It surprises me that the OAK connector isn't timed on the fly for convenient transfers. It would add ~3 minutes to a perfect speed run, but for regular users of BART + OAK it would reduce waiting times once on the system, and from a layman's perspective doesn't seem terribly difficult to implement.
My suspicion is that it just doesn't need to be that exact if you're taking a flight. And there's no way to time it to arrivals given all the uncertainty. And arrivals are half the trips. It might not be ideal for speed runs, but all of BART works really well for people who use it the way it's intended.
@@AdamDoesNotExist I would turn that around on its head actually and say that a system like this would be worse for speedrunners 😃 For an airport traveler the ideal situation is to have the next departure be something like (walk time between platforms) + (a small margin like 2~3 min to account for walking speeds, fare gates, and boarding time). Judging by the static timetable for Coliseum BART it seems to be what BART is intending to do though this doesn't seem to pan out. For a speedrunner, the best possible time is going to be (run time between platforms) + (as little margin as possible). Taking it to the extreme, having it line up just a few times a day makes it even more satisfying for folks who figure out the best possible route 😉(but of course, makes executing the run that much more constrained -- I'm guessing both this segment and the Caltrain to Bart transfers were the determining factors for picking the best times for this route). One of the coolest parts of the BART system are the timed transfers between Transbay-only and East Bay-only lines. Because (if trains are running on time) you can transfer between them by walking across the platform to a train that arrives and leaves at the same time as yours, the time cost of your transfer is nil. This helps BART create more service for an equal amount of trains. I don't think these play a part in your route, but this is something regular users would take advantage of. But transfers in general suffers when schedules don't line up among infrequent services (I would frame this as 15+ minutes between trains/busses). If you're set up to miss your transfer by a hair, you're now adding 15 minutes of sitting around to your route. Increase this number enough or chain enough transfers, and this just ends up feeling like the transit service is sluggish, unreliable, and impractical. Now, I agree with you that in practice, people who make the trip as part of a fight aren't gonna mind the extra 10 minutes. But it's one of the easiest sections for them to control (compared to coordinating with SamTrans, AC Transit, Caltrain, etc), and it's in a way the front door to Bay Area transit if coming in from OAK. If we can't even get that right, I wouldn't count on it. For an airport transfer that's really terrible I would look no further than Millbrae ☹ It should be a slam dunk but whenever I try to use it the BART train is off to the airport by the time I head down to the BART platform and I get to sit around for 15 minutes (roughly +50% travel time). And in the other direction, the terminal at Millbrae (and from your run, that's not the only BART terminal where this is an issue) seemingly fails to indicate which train will depart next, so that's another place where you can board the wrong train, and get stuck while watching your actual train go. It makes me question whether to just hail a car instead every time. It should've been a slam dunk 🙁 Anyway, sorry about all the rambling. Congrats on the run, and to Enzo for the new route getting the best validation there could be.
This was stellar storytelling and teamwork! Congrats on getting thru this with a win and way to go Enzo on pulling together the plan behind it. Also, as a fellow west coaster, just want to say thank you for showing the Bay Area in such a positive light. Amazing video, Adam! Out of all your transit runs, this one may be my favorite. Not just cause of the result, but because of the journey: Enzo being part of it and other speed runners supporting you, waking up at 4am, the gates, delays, running across the station. It's raining in Boston right now and I am thousands of miles away, but I feel like I'm there in the sun. Really cool to see and congrats to you! I hope Bart or Guinness updates their record or page. Now this is amazing storytelling!! Bravo as always Adam I’ll be attempting later this week to break the Washington Metro speedrun with a time just over 7:30 hours. No idea if it’ll work, but I’m hoping I can make it a one and done run
Oh sick! Good luck! I don’t know much about the difficulty of speed running dc metro, but I do think dc has some of the coolest underground stations out there.
@@AdamDoesNotExist The architecture is by far the most beautiful of any American metro. The trickiest part of speed running it is connecting all the branches, as there’s only one end that’s shared between two lines, all the others are served by only one. Especially on the eastern portions of the system, the termini are geographically close to each other, but are difficult to move between efficiently
Baywheels between Powell and 4th & King is one of my favorite Bay Area transit hacks. It's often super tight; missed it today by about 2 minutes due to the incoming train being late. But, if successful, it can shave 20 minutes off the journey between Oakland and the Peninsula, and in the worst case, you wait for the next train, arrive at the same time as the BART-to-Millbrae transfer, and enjoy the Caltrain EMUs for a greater fraction of the journey.
I remember riding on BART as a child (it was a school fieldtrip) within the first few weeks after it first opened in 1972. It was no where near as extensive to begin with but it was exciting and totally shiny and new. Thanks for posting this great video! I am a new subbie and am enjoying your catalog of expertly crafted videos, well done!
Let me just join the chorus of saying congrats, that was an amazing world record run. So glad your teammates forced you to finish it. Just like in any "solo" sport like boxing, skiing, whatever, there's a team of people behind the person who does the actual event. You're all winners. Great YT channel, love the Bay Area content. It's been my adopted home for over 30 years and you're showing me things I've never seen or thought about. Excellent production, storytelling. Keep it up! This is the start of your run to a million subscribers. Mark my words.
Well thank you so much! It felt strange because this isn't how it was supposed to go. It was supposed to be all about Enzo. But you're right, this is a team victory through and through.
Adam you are killing it with the videos! I'm from the bay it was about time we have our own youtber on this side of the country (Casey I love you but Adam has this now). Keep up the great work!
Congrats, Adam, and Enzo. 🏆 I thought for sure the heat would be too much, but then, there's no a video?? We were in SF that weekend. We were on a private boat trip with friends and music on the 5th. I never had to put a sweater on the entire evening! Whaaa? That's crazy! Was beautiful! Cheers 🥤
That was a rush, I'm glad you stayed on and got that record and if anything you proved Enzo right with his planning. The only thing you should add are split times at the transfer stations.
going through those valleys on the way to dublin/ pleasanton isn’t a coastline or crazy mountain view line but man it sure does take me back to being a kid riding in the back of my grandpas/ parents cars. love the vids man. keep it up
I just took public transit from LAX down to Laguna Beach and it took a long time. 😅 I'll take the Pacific Surfliner and Coastal Starlight up to San Jose on Thursday! 🤞
Oh nice! That section from just south of Santa Barbra to SLO is so cool. So try to have a view out the left side of the train for that. Leaving SLO, the view out the right side as you head up into the mountains is really cool.
You know, I'm leaning towards not submitting to guinness. I don't know if Enzo is technically eligible, and I don't love that. Plus the transoc team still hasn't heard back about the official record yet!
@@AdamDoesNotExist As the team explained, the record wouldn't be just yours, it would be a win for the whole team. I say go for it, and at least try. Enzo will probably find a way to bet the record anyway! :D
@@AdamDoesNotExist Yes, definitely. I think the Jet Lag team should look at smaller games like Jet Lag across the Bay Area. There's so much optionality and diversity of travel types, and I think it could be easily at least as entertaining as a game of Tag across Europe.
Wow, that was almost pure luck to beat the record by a huge margin. If I were to do that, I would have never considered using a bikeshare to get to 4th and King Caltrain. Congrats!
You sure do need some luck, but there's a lot more to it than that. Because the trains have 20 minute headways, any meaningfully better record will be about 20 minutes.
This is awesome stuff! I've actually done Speedruns for CTA, MBTA, and WMATA and held the WMATA record for a bit. However if I remember correctly I don't think you're allowed to use bikes for this challenge! The rules are technically scheduled transport and walking/running only (not necessarily public transport), but I hope Guinness overlooks this for you guys. Well done and best of luck!
Wow, cool! There was a suggestion that bikes are mentioned because the rules were written in the 90s well before the idea of public bikes was a thing. Either way, not sure I'm going to submit to guinness because the transoc team still hasn't heard back, and part of me still things I should have ended early.
Fair enough. I definitely wouldn't be against the rules being rewritten as well. It's just awesome to see speedrunning getting more publicity! I also love your other videos as well so keep up the good work.
6:17 i went to middle school and high school with the guy 2nd from the left in the group photo. i remember him being a really big rail fanatic and even wrote his high school thesis paper on high speed railways. i feel like i should be surprised to see him here but at the same time it's very much like him to participate in something like this.
On the subject of beating the OAK connector more consistently. Even if it is very precise, the trains it sends through have to actually be present in the first place. Since trains are ran slower in warmer weather, it may actually save time to run during the summer months, timing it so you hit OAK connector right on time. If BART pays attention to the weather, which they should, there may be a window in there. Maybe accepting a slower run overall can save the OAK connector frame rule and deliver a faster time. Worst case scenario, it remains a partial RNG issue.
Hi Adam! Have you ever considered doing an SF transit speedrun? Hitting every mode of transit (CalTrain, BART, Muni Metro, streetcar, cable car, bus, ferry) in as little time as possible. I think this would be a great video!
Yes I have! It’s actually quite a bit more complicated than I thought it would be. I will probably give it a go at some point, but not in a speedrun format. Some SF Chronicle writers did something called “total muni” a few years back. There’s a really cool article about it.
I've done this too! Although not for a GWR. I did one unsuccessful attempt on the London Underground, but seven months later managed to do a Full Network on the Vienna U Bahn And yeah, I can confirm how physically and mentally demanding it is, not to mention you have to carefully manage your food and drink so you don't run out
I've had a couple of tight bathroom stops. One was at Stanmore on my London Underground attempt, I managed to get the train. On my Vienna run, I only needed one on an S80 train. Unlike you it was actually working!
It's been an honor to have you on this journey. I didn't make it this time, but I look forward to partnering in the future! Thanks for the excellent video and documentation of the run! Wowwwww!!! I think it's possible. I know those E-BART trains can shave off a few seconds. And schedule updates could make things interesting!
Its only relevant until there are no changes to the schedules. If they add a station or remove one, then the new run wont be the same.

Congrats! Side note - I was part of the team that helped build the new Caltrain. I'm glad you liked it.
Your storytelling is downright incredible. Enzo is a level-headed genius, with such poise through the whole experience. Congrats on the great teamwork to get the record!
Thank you so much!
incredible record, but not only that, this video is great, bgm is a lil loud at times but besides that overall this is super engaging and just really entertaining, i really hope this video does get more attention over time, u really deserve it :)
Thank you!
Now this is amazing storytelling!! Bravo as always Adam
I’ll be attempting later this week to break the Washington Metro speedrun with a time just over 7:30 hours.
I really missed you not having video last week 🎉 looking forward to seeing you set a new Guinness record 🤗🥰❤️😍
It felt really strange not having a video ready last week, but this one was a bear to edit. Hope you enjoyed it!
Wow love this! Omg so wholesome to see Enzo's parents at the end! loved the storytelling!
They were really nice!
The Jet Lag The Game part was so relatable 😂
My favorite transit adventure show
Congrats! This video gives similar feelings than watching jet lag the game. You are up there for sure.
Baywheels between Powell and 4th & King is one of my favorite Bay Area transit hacks. It's often super tight; missed it today by about 2 minutes due to the incoming train being late. But, if successful, it can shave 20 minutes off the journey between Oakland and the Peninsula, and in the worst case, you wait for the next train, arrive at the same time as the BART-to-Millbrae transfer, and enjoy the Caltrain EMUs for a greater fraction of the journey.
oh enzo's family is so cute and supportive we love to see it
I remember riding on BART as a child (it was a school fieldtrip) within the first few weeks after it first opened in 1972. It was no where near as extensive to begin with but it was exciting and totally shiny and new. Thanks for posting this great video! I am a new subbie and am enjoying your catalog of expertly crafted videos, well done!
I have watched everyone and all of them are expertly made and overall just so easy to watch and listen to!!! Keep on making these!
I'm so glad you like them!
Wow , that was a lot of planning and they were so gracious for letting you have it
Let me just join the chorus of saying congrats, that was an amazing world record run.
I love your channel Adam! You make such great videos!!!!!!
Thanks so much!
This has been an exciting series. Great job you guys!
Glad you enjoy it!
This feels like old TH-cam, and so wholesome - I loved every minute of this :) Oh and congrats on your record!
Thank you so much!
Congrats Adam and Enzo. This has been a team effort and I've enjoyed watching your past few videos.
Thank you!
You can also speedrun the TTC, the Washington Metro, and some other subway lines. It’s always worth the experience!
There sure are a lot of great speed runs out there!
Helluva video congrats! Unfortunately, I think yall missed a station, THE SNACK ZONE!
Hahaha. That's awesome. I should have made the guy who offered us popcorn the snack zone.
Adam you are killing it with the videos! I'm from the bay it was about time we have our own youtber on this side of the country (Casey I love you but Adam has this now). Keep up the great work!
Wow thank you! If a was 1% of any of the Neistat brothers I’d be pretty happy about it.
I know this channel will blow up soon, great work!
Me too, thank you!
This is insanely well made, feels like an early days jet lag video. Full props for an insane record and hope this stuff blows up 🙏
Great video as usual Adam and congrats on the record that's one hell of an achievement especially during that heat wave good shit guys! 🔥
Thank you!!!
Yessss, the West Oakland transfer. A power move.
Hahaha! The only option!
Congrats!!! Thats super cool, makes me want to try!
You should!
Love your work!
Thank you!
I watched the last one and damn I felt so bad when you missed it. Can’t believe you actually did it 🔥🔥
I know! I really thought this was going to be a video about how hard speed runs are
Congrats, Adam, and Enzo. 🏆 I thought for sure the heat would be too much, but then, there's no a video?? We were in SF that weekend. We were on a private boat trip with friends and music on the 5th. I never had to put a sweater on the entire evening! Whaaa? That's crazy! Was beautiful! Cheers 🥤
Wait that is crazy! Every time I've ever been on a boat in the bay area I've been freezing. 100% of the time! Glad you enjoyed this one!
Congrats on breaking the record. It is definitely easier said than done. Glad I found your channel. So much interesting content.
Thank you, and glad to have you here!
ngl i would have crawled under that gate at first, but my butt would have been kicked by security for sure, Anyways good stuff Adam!
Hahaha. Thank you!
this was so fun to watch! big congrats to Enzo and to you for your world record!!
Thank you!
Well done Adam.
Thank you!
Thanks! Love your videos keep it up
Wow! Thank you so much!
This was beautiful 💙💙 thank you for this video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hats off to Enzo!
The goat
I always think im going to see you whenever I ride bart lol
Lol. You might!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Thanks, Adam, for another very interesting video. Congratulations to Team Enzo. This was intense.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Congrats on an amazing achievement and reaching another amazing milestone in your TH-cam career.
Thank you!
your channel got randomly recommended and I'm very glad I discovered it, you're great at story telling
love from England
Thank you! glad to have you here!
That was a rush, I'm glad you stayed on and got that record and if anything you proved Enzo right with his planning. The only thing you should add are split times at the transfer stations.
Thank you!
21:13 let’s gooo jet lag mentioned!!
also congrats on the record that’s so cool!
Thank you!
I'm from Dublin, the whole Dublin segment was absolutely hilarious.
going through those valleys on the way to dublin/ pleasanton isn’t a coastline or crazy mountain view line but man it sure does take me back to being a kid riding in the back of my grandpas/ parents cars. love the vids man. keep it up
I just took public transit from LAX down to Laguna Beach and it took a long time. 😅
I'll take the Pacific Surfliner and Coastal Starlight up to San Jose on Thursday! 🤞
Oh nice! That section from just south of Santa Barbra to SLO is so cool. So try to have a view out the left side of the train for that. Leaving SLO, the view out the right side as you head up into the mountains is really cool.
Was waiting for a colab between you two. Great to see that you finally got in on the action and broke the world record! Is the record oficial yet?
You know, I'm leaning towards not submitting to guinness. I don't know if Enzo is technically eligible, and I don't love that. Plus the transoc team still hasn't heard back about the official record yet!
@@AdamDoesNotExist As the team explained, the record wouldn't be just yours, it would be a win for the whole team. I say go for it, and at least try. Enzo will probably find a way to bet the record anyway! :D
jet lag mentioned !!! ! !! !
AHHH! He said the thing!
It's pretty much impossible to be interested in transit and not love Jet Lag. It's so good!
@@AdamDoesNotExist Yes, definitely. I think the Jet Lag team should look at smaller games like Jet Lag across the Bay Area. There's so much optionality and diversity of travel types, and I think it could be easily at least as entertaining as a game of Tag across Europe.
I love your videos ! Thank you, for the adventures 👍
Congrats! Enjoy your channel. Didn’t know you were also a fan of jet lag the game
Yeah! Actually I’d never heard of until someone commented on one of my videos saying it was similar. I’ve since watched almost every season.
such an underrated channel!! amazing video congrats and i hope enzo can beat you one day :,)
I'm certain he will
Love this Bart video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic.
Many thanks!
Congrats y’all 👍🏼👍🏼
Congratulations! This is one of the best Speedrun records of all time possibly. Now it's time for Sub 5
Sub 5 is going to be tricky! But just when you think it can't get any better...
Love your content man, keep it up!
NJ Transit's departure alarm: beep-boop

6:17 i went to middle school and high school with the guy 2nd from the left in the group photo. i remember him being a really big rail fanatic and even wrote his high school thesis paper on high speed railways. i feel like i should be surprised to see him here but at the same time it's very much like him to participate in something like this.
I didn't meet him but I'm sure he's great!
Glad I took the time to watch this. Gold.
These videos are so well made and congrats to you and enzo on the record. This was the Jetlag audition video.
Hahaha, thank you!
I did one unsuccessful attempt on the London Underground, but seven months later managed to do a Full Network on the Vienna U Bahn
And yeah, I can confirm how physically and mentally demanding it is, not to mention you have to carefully manage your food and drink so you don't run out
That's incredible! Another food and drink concern is using the bathroom
I've had a couple of tight bathroom stops. One was at Stanmore on my London Underground attempt, I managed to get the train.
On my Vienna run, I only needed one on an S80 train. Unlike you it was actually working!
THE GOAT ENZO WUUUUU
TH-cam recommending me this video the day before I try a similar challenge is something funny
