Hey doke, my parents use to have a poly art business and used a table cutter, two pieces of poly, glued with aquadere. One would be a black background with the colour pieces stuck on top to make the 3d. They also used thick cardboard as the design template which was pinned to to poly and would allow the hot wire to cut close clean lines. I have lots more tips if your interested. I write Wizer and live in Australia. Peace

  • @zIITOASTYIIz

For the next time you do this, you could use the clean cutting wire to cut the inside holes, just cut in through one edge and around the inside hole then back out the same slit you cut to go inside the hole, it will leave minimal visual damage and could be glued together if the tiny gap bothers you

  • @tassie7325

The best way to get rid of the bulk of the high density foam is with a fine blade in a jig saw. Plus, you can get super clean lines with the use of sandpaper. It sands extremely well.

You should be able to take the wire off on the first one. So the straight attachment you used was to make the initial mark for the inside shapes then you can go back and use the wire to cut it out. You would just have to undo the wire and retighten it.

You should clean up the edges and insides of the foam with sandpaper. It makes the art go from a solid 7 to a measly 4. It looks VERY unfinished. Take a break and come back to it. THEN paint it. Dont just paint it to get it done and over with.

Art hack for big circles (I always use this one for mandalas when I draw something bigger) - tie a piece of yarn around a pencil, then take the other end and wrap it around a nail/pin/ whatever. The yarn should be as long as half the size of the circle you wanna draw. Then put the pin in the middle of the space where you wanna draw the circle, pull the pencil as far as you can and boom - you'll get a somewhat perfect circle.

Not sure you know this Doke but when cutting out areas such as the inner part of the "O" you can poke a hole in the center of the area then on the main wire foam cutting tool you un-tie one end of the wires from its post then string it through the hole of the "O" and cut the desired shape out. Cutting foam is pretty nasty if you don't have a fan or open area for the fumes.

The nice thing about styrofoame is that you can sandcast it, whitout removing de faom creature out of the sand before casting. In this way you can cast everything that you make out of the styrofoam. This is because the styrofaom will disapear when the hot metal touches it.

  • @DjKilown
    @DjKilown 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Doke , I feel that you might miss the one thing about this, as much as you might already have read. BUT ... when doing these sculptures cutting out is just one part. Then you have to patch, as @SCOCAT stated you need to high grit sand it also. So here is my two cents (or 2 euros).
1: I would of done what you did and cut each letter out as a single unit.
2: Cleaned them up with the sandpaper and just worked on the over all shape (not just blocked but any other way)
3: Used Poly glue to adhere the letters together and made it flow that way.
4: Airbrushed some color into it and or applied bondo to make it stiff.
This all sounds good and i know you are not "ballin" (make tons of money) but this video is a good and solid foundation for things that you can build on and make WAY better. You use the platform of youtube to show your content, and i am sure they have some creators that do Poly crafting also so you can see or do what they are talking about.
    * What i like to see on the next video is - Gunpla with street art on it * : Link for expliantion softoyhobby.com/tag/gundam/page/2/
I have a few that are built and would be ok shipping them DM me and if this is something you like then that is fine with me. I can go over which ones i have so you can get what you need for your style.

Hello Doke I have used this trick alot to seal poly or any kind of foam check out Punished Props Academy on TH-cam. Basically use Mod Podge or any white glue for the 1st layer then you can use rattle can primer afterwards. Then paint with with whatever you like, plus you can also sand the primer smooth as well.
I really like your content and art work keep it up.
