M2 V2 out of the box tail issues

  • This 'issue' is still to be resolved. It 'appears' to be only the internal rx with T6 and v2 models. It was returned and will be replaced soon. No one seems to be interested in testing T6 with V2 in the 8 plus weeks I have been asking everyone I can find that could and OMP say they tested all modes and there is no issue. My heli was also tested by seller but only with opentx and external rx and found to have no issues.
    So many questions still standing regarding comparison between v1 and v2 and I will for sure get to the bottom of every one, as soon as my V2 replacement gets here which i'm told will not be too long now. Sorry for the month glut in videos, be right back at it soon.

      I believe there is a resolve to this yes but still to fully try it myself on my helis. The main issue seems to be ESCV3 in conjunction with older flight controllers like mine where it's shocking - advice is to turn down pitch till it goes away. (Early V2 releases).
      If you have any tail issues check if your ESC is labelled V3 or V4. V4 is the latest and mostly sorts or fully sorts the issue of reverse tail kick on all V2 and EXP I am told. No clue on V1 yet but the issue is very mild with that one. The FC don't 'seem' to be labelled with versions (haven't had 2 out at the same time to compare unlike ESCS) but V4 ESC with early V2 is pretty good. V4 ESC with latest version of M2 EXP, I am told is issue free by several pilots I trust. I just posted my spare FC and one of my ESC to a friend in Germany to try so won't be able to try it myself and do any update for a good few weeks. Plus work also went to12 hour day/nights, a couple of M1 are here to get busy with and I seem to have found myself a growing micro ground rc habit. It is on my list though and weather finally changing and covid lockdown relaxing make it much more likely. Apologies for going slightly awol recently.

    okay, there are two things you need to do to remedy this issue. First is you need to make sure that the tail gyro gain in the flight controller is set to no more than two ticks. Second, you should honestly check your servo horns and make sure that they are nice and tight. If it has been in a crash and they don't tighten up even after screwing them back in, then they are cammed and you should replace them outright. Also if it has been in a crash you should check the main and feathering shafts too and see if they are straight or not. If it hasn't been in a crash, then you don't need to check your main shaft, just your servo horns and make sure that they are tight. This worked for me, hope it helps.

      Thanks for your input but every M2 and M1 I own or have flown has this issue (5 helis I own and 3 I don't). Only with specific proportions of up and down collective but it's repeatable on all of them. OMP deny it and their go to tester and techs deny it's an issue in any way. Plenty of other people experience and report it i've talked to but it's easy to fly round so most people don't even experience it unless specifically looking for it.
      They even suggested I am unable to do a pitch pump without adding in rudder as my problem. Honestly it was a huge let down and turn off and I decided to bench them all and took some time off flying and perhaps complete the review later.

    I'm having the same issue on the tail with my M2 V2. I have re-tightened every bolt, re-assembled the main rotor head and tried playing around with the tail gain. But still getting that tail kick on quick collective change (not even hard pitch pump, just slight).
    I'm out of ideas at the moment 😅

    • @MicroRCFiend
      @MicroRCFiend  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At this point, i'm still not 100% sure. We are not alone though, be reassured it won't be swept under the rug. Curious what TX and RX you are using and if you have any video? Plus are you using flat throttle curves or V curves? We need as much data as possible at this point so I would appreciate it if you can show it on video as clearly as you are able.
      What confuses me about the growing reports is the fact that for some people it's constant like us and others it's intermittent but hardly any one seems willing to make video of it so we have to take their words for how bad it is or isn't. It does NOT seem to be mechanical setup based. Others are new pilots crashing and being utterly confused.
      It's also not limited to the internal RX, any specific external RX or TX choice either but is only with V2 that I can find. My seller simply will not address it at all or test it in anyway shape or form in actual flight with the T6 he also sells, but he did finally post out a replacement today which i'm taking to a fly-in this weekend with V1, couple same RX and various transmitters and have several people fly them. He will not replace again though, that much is brutally clear as he tested with external rx, his TX and deemed issue free and exactly like his. The test was not as shown, it simply punched out upwards with a small tail move to the right, no harder stops at all. A lot of what he didn't answer said more than what he did, scores of questions not answered. He has not flown a V1 at this point in time, nor can I find anyone with both versions and enough flying skills or willing to make a video.
      I was given a video link this morning that shows OMP flying T6 with V2 and while it does appear to work perfectly and is an aggressive 'smack' flight, he keeps the disc loaded constantly and doesn't load and then unload it like sitting in a hover right after a hard pitch pump up and down. th-cam.com/video/m4dJtU7zokA/w-d-xo.html
      Several people told me they bugged OMP for weeks and finally got a reply and promise of replacement but none received them as yet. Again V1 performs these tasks easily. It also has more apparent power, cleaner hard stops
      My V1 with has no gov and does not have these issues and I can't find any v1 users anywhere yet complaining. This could be lack of robust testing from OMP but that would mean it was only flown smack or wasn't flown in a way we do that seems to show it at it's worst. I'd like to think something that bad wouldn't escape the factory testing but it's an option not ruled out yet. If so would apply to many or every customer who bought it. Hard to believe for me at right now just as is anyone suggesting it's only heat related.
      So while a motor tail has physical limitations, I do not feel that is enough to explain it away as many are attempting either after claiming theirs are issue free.
      The other option is indeed a faulty but not dead ESC/FBL or badly programmed regarding the gov management or possibly even out of spec components that somehow slipped through.
      Sorry I don't have a precise answer or even solution for us yet but the replacement will be from a new batch so that should shed a lot of light on the subject depending on if it's the same or consistent at all.

      I'm using Spektrum DX8 G2, with DSMX satellite receiver. Throttle curves are flat, as recommended by the guy that works with omphobby (buddyrc if im not mistaken).
      My setup experiences are with Blade helis (Spektrum fbl), Align (3gx fbl), Goblin 500 (Skookum fbl) and Kraken 580 (iKon2 fbl). Just saying that I'm still out of ideas on how to fix this tail issue with the M2 V2 fbl. Unless of course, if it is really due to the M2 V2 hardware/firmware issue itself..

    • @MicroRCFiend
      @MicroRCFiend  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thebrorc821 Judging by your experience, your setup skills are not at fault. As you say, we only really have tail gain to adjust once pitch is setup and throttle curves are flat.
      So far I found people flying with tail gain down at 2, right up to 8 but no one reports much difference even people that are happy with performance. Lowering pitch below V1, below 12 degrees is commonly advised but did not sort mine.
      Something you may be interested in reading discussion about is Logo200 since some users there also report the same. One person is saying he has flown 5 variants of omp and L200 with multiple pilots confirming a similar issue. It was getting quite heated but hopefully the discussion is now becoming more issue and solution based. He also provided video of his flying style with a Goblin which shows good skills but collective management is not his focus. Not sure if this is the issue or not but it's the only explanation along with not unloading the disc as we do that could explain a global problem where such an advanced pilot such as Kyle Dahl could possibly not see when testing it for so many hours. Again, hard to believe for me but still to be disproved. Plus this would rule out FBL/ESC and be more of a physical limitation unless it's both gov and physical limitation combined.

    I've just had a second tail motor burn out in two days on my explore. The first one was due to a tail strike. The second one was when I was testing for pitch pump drift. I hope it isn't a bad ESC. I've just ordered spares and a metal head so that should all be straight 🤞 if not it's the ESC 😭 I'm going to reset the ESC and try a debugging mode hopefully that resolves it. Out of the box the tail was extremely locked in!

      I know a couple people had tail motor issues and couple with ESC failing but seems fairly robust all round. One thing I have read is a few people dealing with vibrations that cause problems with both ESC and motor but not straight away. This does seem mainly on the M1 but also not too common. SOrry i don't have any advice past maybe soft mounting your ESC with gel tape as seems the a workaround for problem helis.
      I don't think I have flown my M2 enough for that yet as it's the original firmware with major tail issues, not the latest, much more refined one i'm told is now fully sorted. Need to get it flashed. M1 charged and ready for maiden.

      Tail gain does nothing for me apart from a very high frequency twitch in fast flight when maxed. Calibration gave it a better hands off hover but also had no effect on the tail. Even after replacement I could do exactly the same. The tail issue is that it has too much precomp and can't be adjusted.
      I have an ESCV04 here that several people tell me sorts the same issue on their heli but due to work chnage and weather, finding time to fly on these dark nights is tough. Hopefully I can try over xmas and also get my hands on the M1.

      A few people reported this left/right yaw leaning difference out of the box but that's usually cured by manually adjusting the swash via the fbl. Odd Gyro sorted your slightly wonky flips but if it works you can't argue with that. M2 V1 and V2 I own but I have not flown V2 much yet and still need to get it updated for tally since it was an early version with tail issues. Currently trying to get answers from OMP about M1 tail issues, also on that maiden flight.
      I don't see how TH or kill switch can effect the flying in any way at all though since it can't fly while active and disabled it has no effect. I'd love to see it on video if it's something you can show though, most bizarre.

      Yes but they are separate entities, you can do that with any TX because it's buttons on the FC to adjust it's parameters - that does not include headspeed though. The restriction of locked headspeeds in each flight mode is due to the use of the internal OMP RX. Stock TX obviously only works with the internal RX.

Although I think it should be priced around $120-130. Good thing about e160 is it is very light compared with it’s size and power. Tick tocks are super easy, which M2 covers it’s weight by high RPM.
