I heard stille nacht for the first time the Christmas right after my dad died suddenly and unexpectedly. He was my best friend and it tore my heart out. I'm 64 years old now and I literally cry every time I hear it. The most beautiful Christmas song ever to me.
I often listen to this version of silent night after dark by the light of the wood stove and reflect on the state of the world. It makes me appreciate my happy humble home.
I gave the Night a second listen after your score, and yeah. A keeper. My usual preference is closer to the aboriginal, with nought but guitar and voice. I tend to play it very slowly, and with some license, as did these clowns...which I mean in the best way, as I love clowns. But they went further and added a new dimension to the song, theretofore unminted. A sublime choice. I'm telling.
Two lovely Christmas selections! 💖🎄💖 Yes, most of "A Mad Russian's Christmas" is from The Nutcracker (except for some modern added bits). "Dance Of The Sugarplum Fairy" and "Trepak (Russian Dance)". (yes, I didn't know this off the top of my head, I researched it because I was curious ;-) From Wiki: "Trepak (Russian: Трепак; Ukrainian: Трoпак or Трiпак), also referred to as the Russian dance, is one of the character dances from Tchaikovsky's famous 1892 ballet The Nutcracker. It is based on the traditional Russian and Ukrainian folk dance also called the trepak."
I definitely enjoyed these two! I’ve listened to Mannheim Steamroller for years…..I have eight of their Christmas albums, eight in their Fresh Aire series, as well as five others including one for Halloween that has many interesting songs on it! Chip Davis is amazing! 😊
Thanks for bringing back MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER, a very little-known American band. I'm not a big fan of the "new age" genre, but I admit that I've always had an attentive ear for Chip Davis' compositions, especially for the fusion he was able to achieve with rock elements. Several pieces from the 'Fresh Air' album series seem to confirm this to me. As for "A Mad Russian's Christmas," it's almost an exact cover of the highlight of Tchaikovsky's classic ballet "The Nutcracker," a holiday classic. Interesting.
I suggest a tearjerker (I can hardly think of it without tearing up) (the tears not from sorrow but from the glad ending) from the same album, "Old City Bar."

Some amazing interpretations of some timeless music first created many Christmas moons ago... Thanks for watching! ❄
When did they come out? Don't think I realized that they were trans, which I'm totally cool with, being wondrous and all. Gonna go listen...

So much delicious variety in this one! I can hear Brian May, Eddie Van Halen, George Winston, at the very least.

I knew that was Tchaikovsky. Sounded like Brian May-esque guitar. Both were stunning.
