Love this video! I'll never forget my Dad bought a big Belgian horse named Barnie that was beautiful, but had the bad habit of biting as you walked by. My Dad took his lit cigar, kind of hidden by his shoulder, walked past Barnie and sure enough Barnie took a bite, right into that lit cigar. That was the last time Barnie ever bit anybody.

So I'm watch this and it brings tears to my eyes.my mom passed in '08 but before she passed she told me stories ofmy grandfather logging with draft horses. He and his crew were one of many who cleared the right a way for Interstate 89 in VT & NH. Thank you so much for sharing this video. My mom passed on 10/26 and that was the same day as my grandfather's birthday. Again Thank You The tears though it hurts are happy ones. Sincerely, Corey Nunn
That's some well trained horses. Years ago, thought about using my wife's haflinger to drag logs from woods. 1 horse, not as powerful as those, but did pull a cart. Issue of how to skid logs, without the equipment you have there. Log would have to be short enough to be light enough. Decided to just chunk the wood, let it sit, wait until garden tractor and cart could get back there, then pick up the chunks (woodstove length unsplit), carry them to the cart. Several trips with the garden tractor and cart. Then finally split and stack near the house. The haflinger did get to watch us go by while he was out in the pasture, though.
My Dad had Belgians also. His last team before he passed were Halflingers. They were mostly used to pull the sap collection wagon or sliegh during maple syrup season. Enjoyed your video; most people wouldn't understand any of this.🐎🐴🐎🐴🐎🐴
As I watch these TH-cam draft horses working it seems folks always work them in teams. My grandpa and dad only had one, named Tony. Tony was a cross between a thoroughbred and an unknown draft. He plowed, cut hay, pulled a rake and pulled a hay wagon, that’s about it. Do you guys prefer teams? P.S. You seem to have trained this excellent team with a great amount of care and experience. Well done, truly a pleasure to watch. Are two a lot more expensive, with all that goes with them, than one? Yes, I moved away from the farm when I grew up and joined the service. Dad, grandpa and the farm are gone now. Texas

We're in East Central Minnesota, about 50 miles South of Duluth. Alan's dad and brother pulled horses a lot in Wisconsin. Like St.Croix falls, Cameron, a few others too.

They must be so happy im grown up farming in Massachusetts chances of meating a women who likes farming is pritty slim out hear ill never meet a women i can teach to go out log trees with me only in my dream.
My parents have a lot of deer hunters that live around them, so they let them log trails to keep the deer around, so a lot. Over here at the farm we run around 200 acres owned and rented, and I help my Grandpa work 60 acres.
Those are my father in laws horses. I think he and them are going to retire together. We've talked about getting a team, but our one son is super allergic to horses.
May I ask before they retired how much weight could they pull? I've watched draft horses pull at fairs and I know it's and incredible amount of weight. Thank You again, Corey Nunn

A lot of people did just have one because of the cost of keeping and feeding another horse. When you have a team you have double the power.

It kind of depended on the track, on an easy pulling track they pulled 8,000lbs. On a harder pulling track about 5,000lbs.

No we never have.
