Remember skateboarding down Broadway and into this tunnel then take the elevator up to the 191st Saint Nicholas st level. Skate to 188st go down the hill up to Broadway and hit the tunnel again... the good ole days!
it's not a long tunnel tbh I can walk that in like 2 mins he's either not from NY & walks slow or he's just walking slow to showcase the artwork of the tunnel for video.
I could only imagine the danger that use to lurk around the 80s and 90s era at this location. I felt everywhere was a lot more dangerous in those times. Even Los Angeles where I'm from.
I'm sorry but (Lol)I would be scared in the evening and late at night if I had to walk through the first station😳"Taxi"PLEASE"🙆tfs Action great footage☺
Thank you so much for your Videos. I enjoy the walk with you in New York every time. I was in New York for 10 Days in 2005 . What a fantastic Urban City. since i was a little Kid, i dreamed i visit New York someday. Hope i can come to this City a second time soon. love from Germany.
10:32 Holy shit!! That has got to be the cleanest set of NYC Subway cars I've ever seen!!! Last time I left NYC, I remember those subway cars being absolutely filthy and covered with graffiti art!! Definitely alot has changed in 40 years since I left N.Y. Thanks for sharing!!!
I was just thinking the same thing. That this is pretty decent. Well lit. If it's about the grafitti or the length of the tunnel......eh. again its well lit and wide. NYC subways are fine! We need to care for it more
It's so weird that this is deeper than the Roosevelt Is. F Station! Going down all those escalators... as opposed to this gradual descent, it really makes it obvious. Where as this seems like it's ten feet underground :P
The tunnel at 190th St along the A line is the 2nd deepest tunnel in the system... if anyone wants to visit the Cloisters Museum inside Ft Tryon Park, this is the subway stop to get off. Just take the elevators up to Ft Washington Ave , turn right, and proceed through...best seen during beautiful weather.
Indeed that walk is a little unnerving because there's no escape, and no help if someone attacked you, but to not scare myself so much when I've walked through it, I remember if the city were crumbling above ground, it might be the safest place I could be (except in a helicopter in the sky).
That's scary & filthy looking. Thank GOD here in Houston our rail is above ground. No way I'd ever walk down there alone day or night. We have a mall below ground downtown so it goes above on the streets. I see how great that is now. Thank you.
Lol. It is very safe. I used to walk through that tunnel late at night many times. If something ever happens around the area, half of the police precinct will descend in a second. NYC is pretty safe.
finally got a chance to see that tunnel. Really like the art going in. If the platform area was new it wouldn't look so scary. Maybe the MTA will get around to it later. Hopefully rehab and not demolish. I like old stuff too
@Brad the Pitts. I used to live on Fairview Ave, which is like 5 minutes from the entrance to the tunnel. I'm thinking because the Heights has so many high places you can find tunnels in other train stations too. The 190th stop on the A train also has a tunnel entrance on Bennet Ave. There is a smaller tunnel on 183rd street and Bennet Ave, for the A train 181st stop
Wow, that tunnel is so long, it seems easier to just walk from the Battery to the Bronx.[/exaggerating] Nice surprise when the train came in. Absolutely spotless, inside and out!
The tunnel is virtually level, cut into a hillside. Wikipedia says there is a 1% grade for drainage, and there's only a 9.5 foot change in elevation between the 2 ends.
The tunnel is nearly at grade. The reason why the station is so deep is because of the topography of the area. I’m not too familiar with the safety of the area.
To my knowledge it is quite safe, but a lot of people don't like it. You go up from the broadway side to the to st nicholas ave side by the elevators you see at 4:30.
@@MrMarkie_B how much they make? I'm sure its a living wage. Point is that we can have an advanced system but the construction costs and the wages that need to be paid are ridiculous
The graffiti is on purpose though. I think the MTA allowed it but then some other morons decided to put more graffiti on top of the original one and they messed it up. and no it doesn't smell. Lol
Well, its well lit and full of artwork (kinda) so I guess it's not even remotely as creepy as it might have been in the early 80th .... but I really like the old NY, though.
This video is triggering my claustrophobia. Guess if you make it through to the other end without having a panic attack you are cured of whatever amxiety you have from places with no easy escape route. :D :D Thanks for another great video ActionKid!

Ha, I would but I live in Alaska.
Yes.
What about farting loudly
new york is congested enough especially on acid
That subway passageway looked like out of a Charles Bronson Death Wish movie set. Gee.
IT SURE DOES !!
That reminded me of New York in the 1980s.
Same here, I used to ride my tricycle through that tunnel after coming down from church hill at 187th st. That was back in the 80's, how time flies.
Yeah at least the sub cars themselves are cleaned up now. The cars themselves used to be head to toe graffiti in the 80s
@@chadstone7468 Yes, I know that.
