X8849 parts are now becoming increasingly rarer to get, and there are 3 different types, which doesn't make matters easier.
But X7613 another idler gear will fit and far cheaper to buy - hope this helps. Thank you for your comment

@@MrWozzy28 yes that's about right, X7813s are currently £3.99, and........mif you knock out the spindle, reverse the large gear, eeplace on the spindle it will replace a broken idler gear in a Britannia model too

The video was made over a year ago now, and was purchased off a well know auction site. Peters spares did have a couple last week but wasn't cheap at all. I now tend to look out for damaged non runner versions so long as the valve is un damaged and purchase them, once received I strip them down for spare parts and sell on whsts left to break even financially.
Great repair video. I'm not quite at the level of filming whilst doing repairs. It's a shame that certain parts are hard to find. A donor chassis was the only option on an old Bachmann loco I had sitting for a few years. Sadly there are dishonest people out there thankfully few and far between. Best wishes Paul.
Apologies for the late reply, yes sadly there are some very dishonest people out there. A couple of years ago I bought a set of this valve gear as new, when it arrived it clearly wasn't new at all, infact it was badly worn, the ends of the slides were oval and rounded instead of square, a battle ensued on ebay but I persisted with my claim and got a full refund, despite all the protests from the scam seller who still advertises but has had 4 different identities in the past year alone - so that tells you something. You raise very valid pints, always been good idea to grab a cheap loco and break it down as spares getting harder to come by these days, thanks for your comment.
Excellent video. It's always more difficult to do when you are making a video as opposed to when you are not. I have a BoB and the idler gear problem will no doubt arise at some stage. It's already a bit noisy. However, mine has a scew motor and two brass flywheels. Do you know if this will cause complications? Thanks.

Do you have to remove the wires
To fit it in Yes you do, I simply cut them at the blanking plug and yuu can then remove the defective valve gear, thread the wire though the middle of the new set of valve gear and simply resolder the wires, the black wire goes to to top outer left hand corner and the red to to the outer right hand corner

These gears are a weak link why they went from brass to plastic progress I think not
The only brass gear is the wire gear, the Idler gears have always been plastic, today I got 5 new sets of Idler gears and they are a completely new design so hopefully should stop the gears splitting now - just done another video to be published tonight about them.

@@jameshardy4354 last brass gear train I had from Hornby was their networked in 2000 - the worm sharpened the gear wheel til it was dangerously razor sharp and after slicing my fingers several times simolybdisposed of the entire model as a health and safety risk that was too dangerous to operate
