Sidescrollers were the world, I actually miss those simpler days of gaming.. Biomenace, Jazz Jackrabbit, Commander Keen was the first computer game I played. I remember when Wolfenstein came out, I was addicted. It was the first great first person shooter... Ahhh, so many fond memories
oh god the memories are just all coming back to me. its like i just got hit by lightning. the music, the sounds, the explosions , the aliens, the intro. lol
@greggv8 Wolfenstein 3d also supported running Soundblaster and Adlib simultaneously. 1 was used for the music (in Midi format) and one was for the sound effects.
i played this game non stop when i was young. god it was so awesome. i remember the level with the face huggers took me forever to figure out how to get em off.
@shantuku Are you talking about a shareware CD? I had one called Dominator 2 which all those games you mentioned (except trolls) and tons of more DOS games.
my first duke nukem was duke nukem time to kill, and i played it when i was 6 years old... in fact, it was my first psx game... God, that game sure is in my top-5 games of all times
I used to have a dos cd with a bunch of dos demos on it. and duke nukem 2 was one of them. as soon as i heard the music in the menu the sound of it came to me as if i heard it before cause i have. thats the level i played as well. i could always barely remember this level every time duke nukem 2 came to mind. it was nice to see it again with my eyes. I have a mac now and i miss those games.
@carlitoxxe The original game was titled Duke Nukum to avoid a copyright issue with a cartoon character, and as soon as that threat went away, they retitled it to Duke Nukem for Duke Nukem 2, going with their original intended spelling.
A neat feature of Duke Nukem II is both Soundblaster and AdLib (if your card supports AdLib) sound effects can be enabled at the same time. It adds more depth to the effects. I know of no other game that can do this.
OH GOD I LOVED THIS GAME I played it all the time when i was a child I could never beat it and i didnt know you could save the game back then also, i thought it said "nedla: the future" in the begging instead of "neo la" lol
A second reason for its popularity was that it came out before graphics accelerators hit the mainstream. Graphics calculations were performed by the CPU and this was one of the few games that could run smoothly in SVGA on a Pentium. There were numerous games with far superior graphics at the time, but no PC was capable of running them smoothly in high resolution. Duke Nukem 3D looked fairly good on the hardware that was available. Remember that a high end PC cost more back then than now.
I used to play this in the 1990s on my mother's old windows dos system and everytime there were aliens that stuck onto Duke's body I would go to the force field and get them off even if it meant dying. I also think Duke's scream is funny in this game too.
what is this running on here? it seems to be playing pretty well. i have it on dos with sound effects using the internal speaker and music through a sound blaster 16 pci. beat the boss at the end of the first episode for the first time last night. this game is awesome! (so is the original duke, which i beat 5 years ago.)
BioMenace (from Apogee too) has a similar gameplay and songs xD (but Duke is cool :D and has voices :O). Both are greats games and I love them! I enjoyed playing it when I was child.
I've been looking for this game for quite awhile as I remembered playing this as a kid, and god this was the shit on pc along with other great games back in the 90s.
When I first saw this video, I literally had an "OMG NO FUCKING WAY!" moment. The reason for this is because I had absolutely NO KNOWLEDGE that i've played this game before but once I saw those green monsters in the cells, cola cans, green waste or blobs in the cellar, it instantly triggered memories of me seeing these images as a kid when I was about 2 or 3 years old. I can't believe the first Duke game I've ever played was Duke 2!! I thought it was Duke3D. Man it's amazing how the brain works.
@Troforso Woow, you're way above my age, i am 17 I did play alot of 2D games back in the 90's. Owned an Snes back then, still have it now, but don't need it anymore. My favorite games always were Duke Nukem, Doom, Blood and Wolfenstein. Can't think of anymore right now.
Also Duke Nukem 3D is, was and will always be the best fps shooter of all time. Not just back then was it a decent game, to this day it STILL is a decent game.
@dbeatk Less than 1MB of Video RAM in fact! I remember running this on a 512k ISA-Slot VGA card! Can't remember the base memory requirements think it was around 580K conventional and 4MB RAM, no need for a mouse! lol
I almost forgot how cool this game is! However, I never finished it because it eventually got too confusing and frustrating for me to navigate through.
Unfortunately the sound and music dont work on my new computer.. the only thing I can hear is "I AM BACK!" lol. Great game. I beat this and Duke Nukum I
I CLEARLY wrote that "it's BOTH the graphics and the game play that count". I haven't played Lair but if it has bad game play then no, it isn't a good game by my logic. Next time you want to contradict me, contradict something I actually said. By your logic, games would be just as good if they were using monochrome vector graphics like Battlezone in 1980.
Back then it was exciting just to see an animated fan on the wall
Sidescrollers were the world, I actually miss those simpler days of gaming.. Biomenace, Jazz Jackrabbit, Commander Keen was the first computer game I played. I remember when Wolfenstein came out, I was addicted. It was the first great first person shooter... Ahhh, so many fond memories
Those day's i miss them. :)
I was so addicted to this one.
I can't even explain how happy I am that they changed his voice.
god how i loved those jump n run games, back in the 90's..fell instantly in love!
wow this brings me back, the old Duke games had a certain charm to them, all the different stuff to blow up was FUN.
Ahhh. The good old Duke Nukem games. I remember playing the first one on my dads old computer. Good times!
oh god the memories are just all coming back to me. its like i just got hit by lightning. the music, the sounds, the explosions , the aliens, the intro. lol
@greggv8

Ahhh yes, The Goldon Age of Gaming.. The classic side scroller Duke Nukem Games..
So memorable ^_^.
apogee done great games these times...i remember it good
this game is beast! I loved this and the original when I was a kid
@carlitoxxe The original game was titled Duke Nukum to avoid a copyright issue with a cartoon character, and as soon as that threat went away, they retitled it to Duke Nukem for Duke Nukem 2, going with their original intended spelling.
who doesn't love the legendary apogee games?
A neat feature of Duke Nukem II is both Soundblaster and AdLib (if your card supports AdLib) sound effects can be enabled at the same time. It adds more depth to the effects. I know of no other game that can do this.
This brings back so much, good lord.
holy shit the memories i just got back. i miss the 90's.

Totally agree with ya, used to play the game since I was a kid and im 18 now and I still wanna play it again :D
Shareware episode for this game is still available for download on 3DRealm's website
I love the start, all them shots missed the target. IIRC it's George Brossard that says that "I'm Back"
I remember playing this game at computer class in elementary. Those were the days.
This was the first videogame I played
Me too :D

OMG I miss playing this game !!! Was like 7 when I played it last... Couldn't ever win it tho.... :P
holy crap i remember i played this on dos for hours when i was a kid, then duke 3d came out and that blew my mind
A smiley was the last thing I expected Duke to shoot onto a target...
Apogee made my favorite pc games in the 90s
OH GOD I LOVED THIS GAME
I played it all the time when i was a child
I could never beat it and i didnt know you could save the game back then
also, i thought it said "nedla: the future" in the begging instead of "neo la" lol
this is my favorite platformer of all time
Duke Sounds real excited to be back.

Wow pretty high quality youtube upload for 2006!
I remember playing this game for ages when I was about 10 years old haha
@TheJas20 what are Kratos and Master Chief doing in that list?
Totally my favorite Duke Nukem game.
BioMenace (from Apogee too) has a similar gameplay and songs xD (but Duke is cool :D and has voices :O). Both are greats games and I love them! I enjoyed playing it when I was child.
The music in this game is enough reason to play it.
FUKIN HELL!! THIS BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES!
Gotta love that old-school PC music
love this game. a classic.
Man!! i used ti love this game so mutch!
What a leap from this to duke 3D!
I've been looking for this game for quite awhile as I remembered playing this as a kid, and god this was the shit on pc along with other great games back in the 90s.

Nostalgia to the MAX
This makes me wanna fire up my old Compaq Presario and play though the whole game! I think it's still installed on there!
oh wow I used to play this game and I loved it
This game is actually pretty good! It came with my Duke 3D CD. I think I beat it at one point.
@Troforso Yes, still have some great memories of Doom and Duke Nukem.
We had some Special Edition of Blood.
It looked great.
Nostalgia overload.
When I first saw this video, I literally had an "OMG NO FUCKING WAY!" moment. I can't believe the first Duke game I've ever played was Duke 2!! I thought it was Duke3D. Man it's amazing how the brain works.
I'm pretty sure the intro scene was lifted straight from Lethal Weapon
@Troforso Woow, you're way above my age, i am 17
I did play alot of 2D games back in the 90's.
Owned an Snes back then, still have it now, but don't need it anymore.
My favorite games always were Duke Nukem, Doom, Blood and Wolfenstein.
Can't think of anymore right now.
i still love this game because i fan duke nukem
I love these games!
Also Duke Nukem 3D is, was and will always be the best fps shooter of all time. Not just back then was it a decent game, to this day it STILL is a decent game.
The sounds and music is classic :)
@kyuubiflame Agreed. This was my first Duke game and it's still the best.
@dbeatk Less than 1MB of Video RAM in fact! I remember running this on a 512k ISA-Slot VGA card! Can't remember the base memory requirements think it was around 580K conventional and 4MB RAM, no need for a mouse! lol
Duke: "i´m back" lol wtf schwarzenegger XD
this game has way better graphics than todays games ;D
amazing how much progress we have made in 20-30 years in gaming..!
This was one of my first games 4 pc :)
cool sound effects
Yeah... Apogee was THE supplier of platformers for the PC back then... Too bad they didn't survive till today. :(
@kclin12 yea its bits and pieces. but certain things can instinctively remind you of something that happened in your life.
Man, there was this green cat or dog, in later levels, that used to scare the crap out of me.
I think the next Duke Nukem game should be this one remade to 3D. With the slime monsters and flame thrower and everything
still better than most games nowadays
Watching this, make me want to play it so bad
I almost forgot how cool this game is! However, I never finished it because it eventually got too confusing and frustrating for me to navigate through.
@LaNekra Yeah, me too, but i don't remember the name of the game...
friend can you tell me where the downloaded thanks
Unfortunately the sound and music dont work on my new computer.. the only thing I can hear is "I AM BACK!" lol.
Great game. I beat this and Duke Nukum I
I wonder why he doesn't have a buzzcut in the opening sequence...
Looking at Duke Nukem in this, the first one, the GBC version and Duke Nukem 3D makes me wish that all four versions of him were converted to MUGEN.
This is the sequel of "Duke Nukum"? Or it was first "Duke Nukum", then "Duke Nukem" and this game "Duke Nukem 2"?
Now for the pc!
requirements:
32MB of video ram,
720 KB of computer memory
mouse
keyboard
1 player
If anyone knows where to get the full version of the game without having to sign in to some unwanted membership please leave a response.
you cant beat a classic! great vid
gonna use a old pc to play this again ! :D
good game!
I CLEARLY wrote that "it's BOTH the graphics and the game play that count". I haven't played Lair but if it has bad game play then no, it isn't a good game by my logic. Next time you want to contradict me, contradict something I actually said.
