I've been looking up every review of the Q10 that I can find. I enjoyed watching yours. As someone that is a longtime BBRY user and has used Android and iOS for the last year, I'm beyond ready to return to BlackBerry. Thanks for the video.

Excellent review. The best review I've seen for the Q10. Very insightful. BlackBerry should watch this video and fix what needs to be fixed.

Just wanna say thank you for all your honest input. Those minute details matter to me. It's 2014, I've never had a smartphone before (by choice) 'cause I see a lot of hype with phones nowadays, and I almost always have to wait and work hard to get exactly what I want. I'm a die-hard fan of tactile feedback, and think BB seems to be the only maker left that continues to produce epitome physical keyboards. Not to mention the functionality and sure reliability for telecommunication the handsets have proven for themselves to begin with--my mobile motto. I can see myself using the BB10 flagship units, but think it's better to go with the ones that have acquired a stable track record. That said, I'll be getting the Torch 2 soon. This video gave me all the more reasons to stick with my decision to migrate to BB (from my old candy-bar Nokia workhorse).

Still...the Q10 is still my fav phone on the market, although the Passport is looking tempting.

Wow - fantastic review. I have a Bold 9930, and was getting pretty excited for the new devices, but it looks like they've taken out too many items that I've really come to depend on. The biggest new benefit I see is the support of MS Exchange server without having an enterprise server. Otherwise, I'm not sold. Thanks!

    thank you

On the home screen with all the apps you always have the touch buttons on left and right, one for Camera and one for Phone so it's easy to access the actual Phone function. BUT if you know who u r calling, u can just type "Call X person". Same goes for texting, type "Text X person" and it will find the person from ur contact list and if u press their icon it will just execute the action. I personally dont miss the green and red button anymore."End call" is visible when u make a phone call. :)

Really great review. I have some comments. The left handed thing, it heating up yes, but you don't have to swipe from the bottom just swipe from the left it's easy, you're making it more work.8:20: I believe they removed many of the hotkeys for the ability to type on the home screen and immediately tweet or post on fb. 9:40:takes some getting used to, you figure out tricks.12:50:Thats what you give up with touchscreens sadly. You missed some things like the alarmclock is better. Great Review tho

    @mepemcl 11 ปีที่แล้ว

Good review - I especially like your criticism about the screen. I hope they come out with a successor to Q10 very soon and I hope it has a darker lowest brightness setting!
I also liked your points about how the missing trackpad has specific things that are now slower to do such as selecting multiple messages and selecting blocks of text to delete. I like the idea of keeping the keyboard but ditching the touchpad... So I hope future BB software they can fix this and make it easier. For example maybe instead of having two fingers pinch zoom in messages you could have it initiate text selection, and then you can tweak each edge of the text selection with one finger.
Finally I am glad that in your ending you emphasize this device is all about using the keyboard for messaging (not for multimedia)... Also it's unfortunate but in the current market there are very few alternatives. Basically the only keyboard alternatives right now in the USA are even older Android phones, or some kind of keyboard case.

My current phone - XT890 / RAZR - has a similar amoled display and suffers from the same issue. ie the minimum brightness level is too high.
There are several small apps that work round the problem by overlaying a grayscale filter in software and changing the effective brighthness - although it also ends up making the display slightly muddier.
I think I could accept they're hitting an amoled limitation as opposed to it being a design decision.
      Useful to know anyway.

    Hello Reviewsforyoutoo
I congratulate you on the tremendous detail on this compared to the previous, thanks. You have done a brilliant job in your semi review/comparison, and it seems you know the many details I never knew existed on my 9900 and how to use them, so that is great.
BUT. . . Because I have been using a pc/mac cable to recharge, AND to try and sync the 9900, ironically to save incase I should have any problems, the cable connection for the charging is also the same as for the sync, and it seems to have been from what I can see that the default set up when the cable is connected is to have the ’SYNC’ live, and then one has to click the ‘CHARGE’ on the screen to charge obviously. The problem may have been that I never noticed this and or I never clicked to choose quickly enough and after a couple of times whatever was happening to the phone and sync and my mac, before I chose to click charge I do not know, but think it may have been trying to sync over and over or something that I do not understand was going on, and the phone now shows only the ‘RELOAD SOFTWARE ICONIC TYPE IMAGE’ on the screen.
    …………………… . . .
…………………… . . . I do not know how to reload the OS, though in (perhaps) my mistaken logic of trying to figure things out, I have removed the SIM and the small (actually less than ½ the size of the SIM) 8 gig of memory card.
…………………… . . . Can you tell me whether I need the SIM and or the memory card in the phone to reload the OS of the 9900?
…………………… . . . I have a pretty bad tremor due to medication and the epilepsy I have which is the reason I am invalid, and loosing the phone ‘effectively’ because I need to communicate most days with someone, means my choice to get another 9900 or something that I can transfer and use the memory and the SIM, especially the size of the SIM, because I am assuming the SIM and Memory is not corrupted so I would want to use them both in any new Blackberry I get.
…………………… . . . I am wanting to get another Blackberry ONLY to see and hopefully to use my memory and SIM if it is the same, my choice otherwise would be an Apple iPhone.
I got a Blackberry only because I was in a situation, because I am an Invalid I had to choose very quickly which phone I wanted because the following day I was going into hospital for three months, and the OS for the 9900 I bought then, had just been updated and was twice as fast as the previous BlackBerry, whatever IT was, and I am talking only of any previous BlackBerry that was NOT full screen. The iPhone I was going to get had not had an update, but I needed a phone that was pretty quick and I never knew what the speed of the iPhone was like as the shop I went to never had any of the latest iPhones, I suppose they were waiting to stock what would have been the latest iPhones being updated a month further on, you know.
Any help and advice you can give would be most welcome, thank you.
    mrbluenun

Yes, thanks for that. However, as I mentioned at the start of the video, I am not trying to compare devices. I am merely looking at the blackberry and comparing it to previous blackberries, and I don't work for blackberry so I'm not trying to advertise or sell the device so I didn't feel there was a need to justify the glitches by comparing them. Thanks for your view!

My spacebar feels a bit stiffer than the rest of the keys but I've had no other problems (it doesn't disrupt my typing experience). Haven't had reboot problems so far. Whatsapp bugged once and I had to do a reboot. So did Skype. So when apps bug you might have to reboot but it's faster than before. Browser occasionally freaks out and wont let you press the back button inside the browser, so you have to restart it. This is incredibly frustrating but we'll hopefully get a fix soon

    GREAT REVIEW!
I am thinking about switching from my new BB Priv to the BB Classic. Why? Because I miss the trackpad of the BB Torch and Bold so much! my wife has the BB Torch 9810 and it just so much of a help to use the trackpad, be it for opening files without touching the screen, be it for tabbing text fiels (like name + password) or for filling in "additional characters" quickly (like ä, ö, ü or ß which are often needed in my language. This btw is what makes BB phones less suitable than the Nokias for typing in languages that use more letters than just the standard Latin alphabet), which only works with two hands though. Especially for such a big and uncomfortable phone like the PRIV the optical trackpad is a must. Well the integrated one is good for scrolling and text editing, but that's all it offers.

The Q5 is still a decent phone, although my preference is the Q10 (because in addition to nicer keyboard, u can take the battery out, and potentially get spare battery packs etc). U could prob get the Q10 on ebay UK for around £300. The Q5 is around £180 on ebay now i think

This phone killed it for me when you pointed out that email deleted from my phone would be deleted from the server. WTH is wrong with these people? I don't ever read every single email on my phone and read them later at a more convienent time for me. Also my contacts would go on all my connected social links? Track pad gone with no easy new option? Thanks for the great review, now I won't buy it or the Z10.

That browser bug has never happened to me, the only thing that I can saw takes some experience is the touch screen being sensitive sometimes. Otherwise I have never had too many problems with my device, I think it's partly because I have such a great balancing of using my computer, tablet, and smart phone. So things like emails don't get lost, or typing issues. If i have a mistake I fix it right away. I hate touch screens (any) for deleting certain portions. You failed to mention about APN

    Hi to all,
I have a problem with my 9900, and was going to replace it with a Q5.
Can anyone tell me if it take the same sized SIM and memory cards, I speak of those memory cards that in my 9900 slide in a slot just above the SIM and pushes in when pushed toward the top edge direction of the phone.
My problem is to save in case of anything going wrong on my 9900, I downloaded BlackBerry’s desktop for my Mac, to transfer and copy stuff, but the app I downloaded although an official Blackberry software crewed up the OS on the phone.
I have removed the little 8 gig memory card and the Sim and want to try and replace the OS, can anyone say if I must download the native 9900, or will it be possible to download the q5 OS? Or preferably the Q10?
Any help especially with the speed of the chip on the Q5 and any of the above would be very VERY much appreciated as I am an invalid and cannot get to a shop to have someone look at it.
    Take care

The only bit that is quicker without touch screen is the answer call and hangup buttons. Sliding to answer isn't really that big of a deal and necessary for touch screen phones. It could be opinionated but I find the touch screen much faster than a track pad. There is no navigation of icons you just click the one you want.

    • @jallyman
      @jallyman 10 ปีที่แล้ว

Yea so it is opinionated and hopefully as blackberry have planned they will release a phone with the usual trackpad etc. but also with a touch screen which would be great.
