- This is the final home and apartment of actor Jonathan Brandis. Jonathan Brandis was a very popular actor in the 1990's and was best known for IT, Ladybugs with Rodney Dangerfield, and Sidekicks with Chuck Norris among many other films and shows. He was cast for a role in Hart's War with Bruce Willis, but many of his scenes were deleted from the final cut and a 2003 pilot of 111 Gramercy Park that was not picked up made Jonathan Brandis go through a battle of depression. It was in this apartment building on S. Detroit Street in Los Angeles that he was living and this is also where he was discovered by friends hanging from a pipe on the second floor of this building. Jonathan Brandis was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sanai Medical Center at the age of only 27. Jonathan Brandis' death was one of the first shocking deaths I can remember growing up and affected his fans around the world.

I also read that Jonathon Brandis auditioned for the role of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode II(2002) and lost out to Hayden Christensen and that also contributed to the spiral. It’s so sad because he was a good looking guy that was a legitimately good actor. I remember him being really good in “IT”(1990) and thinking he has a very bright future.
I loved him in Ladybugs. RIP to both him and Rodney Dangerfield. Unfortunately he died so much younger and before Rodney. I’m surprised he lived in an apartment, he must have made pretty good money on Seaquest but I guess as he got older and didn’t work as much the life he was used to living was disappearing. RIP again to one of my childhood crushes, beautiful Jonathan. I hope he is in a better place.
My daughter just loved Johnathan. She was just devastated when he passed away. So very sad.

I was obsessed with Jonathan when I was a teen. I had his posters plastered on my walls. I still feel so sad when I think of him. It makes me happy that he is not forgotten. ❤🎉

That way of death sounds suspicious. Like he found out something. His friends were there. Or they say friends. Couldve all been in on everything. I wouldn't put it past Hollywood.
Such a shame too. He was such a good actor. And even if he wasn't, it still would be sad an a shame. I didn't know he died. Just figured he grew up and didn't want to act anymore. But tbh i kinda stopped watching tv a lot. Poor Jonathan.

My favorite movie with him was Lady Bugs.
So sad talented actor and very handsome young guy..he needed to get the help he needed be4 it really got bad..hey u know actors has their ups and dwns but I see young actors take whatever job they can’t get and figure it out..

His roles were drying up…his graduation towards being an “adult” aged actor was not working out…he still looked too young for his age and people only remembered him for his teenage movies.
I am only speculating here…but I think he had a feeling his acting career was over and became depressed to the point to where he could not control the dark feelings.

He didn’t look young for his age. Did you see him in 2002 ‘The year that trembled’? The depression had him looking like he was nearly 40
@@ariassingh462 Agree. He looked so bad at that time. And when I see him there I always remember that young blond with flushed cheeks on Seaquest. Every time I can’t believe it the same person… Also I think he got old quickly because of bad genetics besides depression. I saw how looks his father…
@@barbie-girl000 I’ve never seen someone’s looks change so much during their 20s. I’m a couple of years older than Jonathan when he died and I look like the same person I was at 19 (except I have a beard now). It definitely contributed to his depression to have all those fans adoring his looks and then aging very quickly.

@@ariassingh462 no…the last photo I’ve seen of him he looked like a healthy adult…not old at all maybe early 20’s. On TH-cam there is a movie with him and Harvey Kietel (spelling?) and as a gay male I find him very attractive.
…maybe fans missed his long hair? I am looking at his most recent photos on google and he looked gorgeous to me…and these are pictures of him right before he committed suicide.

Update: okay I just watched parts of ‘the year that trembled’ and yes sad to say he looks bad there…and the sadness I can see in his whole body.
Apparently the photos on Google are professionally taken and have him looking so much better.

Unfortunately, I never heard of this kid. What had he done that was noteworthy?
The original IT 1984. He played Bill, the older brother of Georgie. He was in some lesser known movies, one of the others being Ladybugs with Rodney Dangerfield. He was good in his younger days but I guess he wasn’t getting cast like he used to, due to his age.
And he was never in the tabloids for anything bad, which is very refreshing cuz that was happening a lot with most child actors back then.
Used to live there in the apartment below his and the energy there is so dark

Johnathan was a great actor anyhow. Only he knew what he went thru.

I don't know why but in my mind I would think they would want to be in a private place? Anyhow it's incredibly heart breaking.
It’s a very sad case and the timing especially. I’m guessing the hallway was less crowded than his apartment at the moment but the whole situation was very tragic.
I think it was a passive cry for help. That if someone saw him attempting they would stop him. But because no one did, he may have assumed that it was meant to be.

I've walked through there- Wilsher and those neighborhoods while I lived in koreatown and work near the Beverly center... That's amazing when you walk by these buildings you don't know the history. I'm wondering, is there a possibility somebody murdered him? Since there was no drugs in his system. As nice as that area maybe it still is sketchy. Since its near Wilshire boulevard

Re-watching It 1990 for the millionth time. Jonathan was such a great actor, he was the leader of the losers club (in it). Its really so sad that he left us so early, he would of definitely got some films or tv he would have been proud to make. Rip Big Guy 😭

RIP beautiful boy. I remember his face well as a 90’s kid. He used to date actress Tatyana Ali, they were a cute couple. I hate how often this happens to young Hollywood stars. They’re chewed up and spit out. I never realized he was a 27 club member. You did a nice job telling his story ❤

I went to a psychic about Jonathan death, since it is still open with LAPD, weird message that Jonathan want fans to stop using his name. Now I do know if this true, but since his fans still post, could it be possible that he is aware of it.

That apartment building looks very humble for an actor who was meant to be such a big deal.
Humble is oddly specific because this would be palatial to some people with little means and opportunity.
Just further speculation; with the roles he had already been cast and shot for, his net worth couldn't have been anything too impressive. Like the videographer said, his star was rising but he also suffered setbacks. An apartment like this would have been quite expensive in that part of town, I would imagine, even in those times.
I used the word palatial to create the separation between the have and have-nots as a way to illustrate just how tough life can be even for those that lead a pampered life. Most just blissfully assume because you're an actor or celebrity that you have a lot of money in your bank account which isn't the case at all. In giving this sort of thought exercise you come to appreciate the diversity of life, on either side of the wealth divide. Being an actor also comes with very costly ancillary expenses like having an agent, doing endless casting calls without success and endless days/weeks/months of no income. Truly humanizing the term, starving artist.
