I was 15 and it’s one of the most well know albums from the scene !!!!!! What is metalheadz ? 🤣it’s goldies label that has been putting out classics for 30years + and put out a amazing dj trace vinyl about ten days ago !!! Glad some one else in the chat knows his history ! Respect to the old school junglists still here today !!!
I got to meet Diane in Brixton, when I was working for Virgin. I was playing a compilation CD I knocked up with Drum & Bass on it & she came over, saying she liked the selection. She asked if I knew who she was & I let her know I knew. So friendly & down to earth. RIP 🙏🏽😞
Respect to Diane Charlemagne, fantastic voice! London Elek worked with her a lot ld ater on including doing live shows with her. Incredible voice and a true legend in soulful DnB.
@@NiceWindow Just Jammin' reacted to that, I'm really hoping someone does 'Maintain' by Krust and Morgan, that's an absolutely slept on classic as well as Optical's The End Pt 1.
Goldie is a legend, he also owns Metalheads. There is a track called Timeless which is 22mins long and encorporates this track along with 3 others. A total masterpiece
The biggest issue you have here is that you reacted to a very basic radio edit!!! When you do drum and bass reactions finding the correct remix or version is absolutely paramount, this track is an 8 minute anthem but this radio edit pales in comparison, I highly recommend you find the 2020 remastered version and listen again. And anyone requesting drum and bass need to be more specific about the mix
This was an edit of the video ! All the metalheadz stuff and this whole album is on the official metalheadz u tube ! They are all in hq files !!! All the rmx’s are quality ! Like riders ghost etc are just as good ! Platinum breaks vol 1-3 ! Source direct ‘ dillinja ‘ code name John ‘ Adam f ‘ optical ‘ doc Scott all are essentials and on the u tube in hq !!!
Diane Charlemagne is the female vocalist who sings on this track and she passed away a couple of years ago !!! May she rest in eternal peace ! And we will always remember her through her beautiful vocal talent !!!!!!
Goldie started as a Graffiti Artist , spent time in NY with all the old skool crews , came back to the UK and made music , a doc called Coldie - The Art That Made Me is worth a hunt for
YES! Goldie and Roni Size were absolute fucking GODS back then! This is DnB breakthrough ground zero and that vocal was recorded as an original for this track, any other instance you've heard is a sample of this.
I bought the double album version of Timeless back in '95, album mix of this track is about 20mins, a costly £22, put out on Pete Tong's FFRR label... a groundbreaker that showed d&b was more than a fad
Someone else you guys should check out is Dj Krust. Really evocative in terms of sound effects and staging, cinematic even. A really good one to check out from him is Maintain featuring Morgan. He's got other ones without vocals that are great as well like True Stories, Future Uknown, etc. but Maintain is actually good on it's own with or without the vocals so it's a great place to start.
Goldie is a Don Gorgon...he started as a graffiti artist...then got into music and has even done some acting (Snatch...The World Os Not Enough James Bond)
@beersbars thanks for doing this one, its not new its from 1994 mind, foundational anthem!!! He was and is an amazing graffitti artist - he went to NY in late 80s grafging with famous crews. He created seminal tracks and albums that helped define dnb and gain mainstream attention. His label Metalheadz is a longstanding pioneering dnb label, still going strong. He has appeared in films, tv series and even took part in an orchestrating competition tv series. He has toured live and performed his music with the heritage orchestra He is our OG and the original face of Jungle and DnB.
Goldie does shows with live musicians. One of my favourite drummers Adam Betts plays for him and is incredible in his own right. Check out more of both
Finally Inner City Life - I've been asking you guys to react to this track for ages!! NO Goldie - NO Drum n' Bass & none of what you've been reacting to for time now. SEMINAL track! But you do need to listen to the full version this was the radio edit that was HUGE in the UK in 94. CHANGED MUSIC FOREVER. Time stretching, new method & Diane Charlmaine's vocals & lyrics, mind-blowing.
@beersbars thanks again for doing this request, please can you update the vid title to reflect this isnt a mash up but an original dnb anthem. This is a very special track of huge cultural and musical significance, thanks guys 😊
I was 19 when this came out, the whole album blew my f*cking mind...The whole album would be blasted from my sh!tty Golf and it's stereo that cost more than the car. Goldie is the UK's D&B Daddy.
4:50 yea the 90s def has a lot going for it creatively. Goldie dated Björk at one point, another artist pushing boundaries. She also worked with Tricky, member of Massive Attack from Bristol UK. Ppl couldnt put their music in a box so it got dubbed Trip-Hop. I think Court would enjoy their album Blue Lines.
this track influenced me so much when it came out, 10 years later i got the Metalheadz logo inked on my right calf. only way i can describe it is "cinematic drum and bass" RIP Diane.
The whole Metalheadz label is worth checking out, some of the DJs on there are EPIC! Goldie, Photek, Dillinja, Fabio & Grooverider, Jesta, Friske, Fanu...
Oh for, real I had this track on white label this track created a whole new production technique called timestretch n the percussion, which is derived from sped up hip hop.
The longer version of this track (from the Timeless album) is incredible.. I think it's about 15 mins long or something. Apparently Goldie took the album to Paul Okenfold (I think), they listed to the track in silence for the whole duration. once finished it got signed to the label. Longer version is called "Timeless".. 1st track on the album.. Similar to this but goes deeper.
To expand, the 20 min version is actually called Timeless, which includes Inner City Life. As I say it's a journey 👍 th-cam.com/video/Usqwy2-E4SE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1vwC_rFNVpQ0VxaT
if you really want to dive into Jungle history then there's no better place to start than listening to any AWOL sets.. was the pinnacle of Jungle nights AWOL at the Paradise, check out AWOL live at the Ministry of sound a special live recording from 95/96. I strongly recommend checking out the following.. DJ Randall AWOL, DJ Ron AWOL, Cool Hand Flex AWOL... also check out any Stevie Hyper D sets the ultimate Jungle MC...RIP
Goldie was also In James Bond, he played Bullion in The World is Not Enough. He also dated Bjork for a time. 90’s UK was wicked! I have fond memories, even if I was just a kid.
Wow, Goldie!! Still sounds fresh after all these years. This whole album (Timeless) was groundbreaking. I remember buying it and Bjork's first album the same day back in the 90's. Used to go to Metalheadz nights at the Hub nightclub in Bath until the club got ruined by noise complaints. Amazing time for UK music. Goldie did this live with an orchestra. Well worth watching. It's on UTube. Goldie And The Heritage Orchestra. LTJ Bukem is worth checking out. Going to see Bukem in May. Can't wait.
Arguably the pinnacle of the art, along with Brown Paper Bag. Also, as they've not been recommended as far as I can see, Origin Unknown - Valley of the Shadows and Ray Keith - Terrorist (which bears no relation to Lowkey track but is equally worth reviewing)!
Try the "Angel" remix by Teebee - also on the Metalheadz label. The original version of Angel was on Goldie's Timeless album, but Teebee's remix is an absolute banger!
Another real biggie I forgot about with really powerful sort of Caribbean style singing-MC'ing over blended jump-up reggae jungle from the mid 90's, check out Prizna feat. Demolition Man - Fire.
My now 30 yr old daughter walked home from army cadets when she was 17 with a couple of mates buzzing because they had just chatted to goldie...... random
Metalheadz is Goldie's record label. They are actually in the states over the next few weeks for their 30th anniversary. Please check out PFM and MC Conrad - Western next. Unfortunately Conrad passed away last week 😞
MetalHeadz - 4 eva! Goldie is an old hip hop head from Wolverhampton and Graf artist and a pioneer of DnB, as well as a proper down to earth bloke. Diane Charlemagne's vocal is original on this track, not a sample or rework.
Metalheadz is Goldie's label, which he started as a sub-label of Reinforced Records back in the early 90's but it rapidly outgrew Reinforced the way Medschool outgrew Hospital. To me - Metalheadz Platinum Breakz I is like the bible of classic drum and bass. The whose who on it is insane, like Luciferic creative intellects, and to date there hasn't been anything else quite like it.
3:58 - It's Goldie's tune, not a drum and bass remix. There are samples but they're more low-level like drums, pads, details, etc. and Diane Charlemagne's his singer.
Metalheadz is goldies record label. Y both shoulder smoke a blunt, sip some whisky and go through all the tracks on the metalheadz TH-cam channel. Trust you will find some gems and bangers
You realise that the timestretch vocal sample is one of modern music's mysteries and a thing of beauty. If you don't know what I'm on about do yourself a favour and do some google research!! Promise you'll be enlightened musically
"New sound"! This was released by Goldie on his label Metalheadz in 1994! I'm 43 now and was listening to this when i was 13!
Exactly, I'm 42 and I'm from Central Europe, but this was even on MTV back then and I didn't really know what DNB was yet. But Goldie was dope.
I remember this coming out in the hazy 90s,great being early 20s in that crazy decade.
Goldie from Wolverhampton just 10 mins down the road from me.
I believe it was 95 that this was released when I turned 19. Love this song always been one of my most fave tunes 👌

yyyyyyyyyuh!!!!!!!!
R.I.P Diane Charlemagne
She was a huge influence in the jungle/dnb world and let me tell you that we miss her beautiful voice over dnb tracks.
Holla dat. I had the pleasure of being at blues parties in Mcr the 80s & 90s where she'd sing live... taken from us way too soon.
❤
She worked with S.P.Y and other producer too 🎉
I got to meet Diane in Brixton, when I was working for Virgin.
I was playing a compilation CD I knocked up with Drum & Bass on it & she came over, saying she liked the selection.

Roni Size - Brown Paper Bag next surely.
Huge respect to Dyna MC
@@NiceWindow Just Jammin' reacted to that, I'm really hoping someone does 'Maintain' by Krust and Morgan, that's an absolutely slept on classic as well as Optical's The End Pt 1.
The live version on Jools Holland. 🙏
It's a Jazz Thing, Child of the wild wild west...etc
The Angels Fell - Dillinja
Court - this is no sample this is the original vocal by Diane Charlmaine!!!!
Thats why its sooooo good
What until you here the DJ Zinc D&B remix of Fugees - Ready or Not !
I prefer the 2003 remix by Zinc.
Best tune ever!!!!!
An absolute timeless tune.
That was a tune! Don’t forget the remix of Busta Rhymes Woo-Hah!! Got You All in Check. Massive tune!
Goldie is a legend, he also owns Metalheads. There is a track called Timeless which is 22mins long and encorporates this track along with 3 others. A total masterpiece
Also Court these vocals are the original vocals written for this track, by Diane Charlemagne. They are not lifted or sampled from any other track.
🔥🔥🔥
You guys are cool af for listening to all this UK history. Big up! Good vibes. Glad you enjoying what a lot of us grew up with

The EDM rabbit hole has reached Jungle

MetalHeadz - Label
Goldie - DJ/Producer
Jungle - pre DnB, post Acid House (mid-late 90s)
Goldie is such a wonderful Drum & Bass legend.😃👍❤️🔥
That's her performing this with Goldie, it's all original, the song the beats everything
