Tips from Captain Nick Morris 🤑 God bless your family, sir. 🤙 l will be in Oahu at the Alani resort. 26 -29 will chum for Popio. Off the reef. I will try the seaweed on a hook trick. Thank you again for all the tips. 🤙
good vid reminds me gotta take my kids again, last beach activity i took them was diving for squid last year and looking for shells couple weeks ago, just did the pipipi thing......oahu get some nice coastlines
I agree with letting the reef fish go. I let them all go. Its just fun to see them up close and out of the water. Some of the fish light up so bright when caught. Colors you can't see diving.
I I don’t. But this website should give you everything you are looking for 🤙 dlnr.hawaii.gov/dar/fishing/fishing-regulations/marine-fishes-and-vertebrates/
I have funny chumming story. Years ago while we were in Maui, we went on one of those snorkel cruises out to Molokini Crater. On the way out they served a buffet continental breakfast. I was eating all sorts of things. We are almost out there and they ask who wants to snuba. I am like sure, why not? So as we get into the crater the boat is rocking around and I ask if I can chum the fish in the crater, one of the gals goes full ape shit and gets angry "No, it is a protected area.." Andrea Moller who was one of the other gals on the boat starting laughing, she was the first gal who surfed Jaws. She asked if I was going to puke. I always puke, but it never slows me down. She tells me I am the first one in the water. She goes in with her scuba tank and I am supposed to follow her and everyone else is supposed to follow me. We do a big loop of the crater and she points for me to go back up to the boat. I get up on the boat and it is rolling all over. I grab my snorkel gear and jump back in the water. I swim away from the boat and meet my wife, she is like " How was it?" Me.. " I am going to puke.." She is like .."what?" I start puking and laughing, she is grossed out and swimming away from me, as i am swimming away from her on my back, all the fish in the crater, most of which seem to be the black trigger fish, have swam onto my chest and are trying to get in my mouth, all the tourists on the boat are swimming into my puke and all the fish eating it to take pictures. It was most likely close to a thousand fish. One woman swims up next to me, takes out her snorkel and asks.. "Did you just throw up in the water?" Me.. "Yep". She slams her face back into the puke filled water, then pops her head back up and exclaims.. "It is still so cool." I spoke to Andrea later and she asked me the same thing.. "Did you puke in the water like you said you were going to do?" Me " Absolutely". She said. " I thought that was you. I about drowned because I was laughing so hard, at first I was freaked out because all the fish in the crater went swimming past me, which freaked me out, then I look up and they were are swarmed around someone above, I was thinking it was you and you gave us fair warning." I went back to eating as soon as they put out lunch and then puked it all back out before we left the crater. The Japanese tourist who was so excited about all the fish at the side of the boat, only to realize the fish he was photographing were there because of me puking, as I was dry heaving the last bits out of my system. I have told so many people to do the same thing. " If you want to see fish, puke in the water, it is crazy.."
Aloha, The area in this video is part of the Pūpūkea Marine Life Conservation District and is a NO TAKE zone. The boundaries are from the Wānanapaoa Islets off Waimea Bay to Kulalua Point between Kapo’o/Sharks Cove and Ke Iki Beach. It is illegal to catch, harm, injure, kill any marine life and in addition, it is illegal to possess in the water any device that can be used for the taking of any marine species. There is an exception in Waimea Bay where pole fishing (2 poles per person, 2 hooks per pole for any fun fish) is allowed from the shoreline of the Bay only. The MLCD designation is 36 years old and as you saw, it’s abundant with an array of reef fish. The idea is that the fish in this area will grow and reproduce and spill over into outlying areas, ensuring abundant resources for future generations. There are signs with maps posted throughout the MLCD (they are blue). More info can be found on the DAR website. I read your comment earlier and it sounds like the DOCARE office folks need a refresher on the boundaries. Regardless, I’d recommend removing this video. Not only does it inadvertently give others the wrong info, but it is evidence of multiple violations. I appreciate very much your care to return most of the fish to the water, and I especially appreciate your message of conservation. I wouldn’t want you to get a citation (or 10). I’m sure now that you know, you wouldn’t fish there again. Mahalo :) Jenny Pūpūkea Makai Watch Coordinator
I called DLNR and asked because I wasn’t 100% sure. The lady told me after being on the phone for 5 minutes it was legal. She said a limit of 2 poles only.
